@loulou:
I agree with Satsuki. They need to make fairytale/fable/classic story movies again. Was the last one they did Tarzan? It wasn't a box office failure was it? Since then, they've been making silly comedies with too many pop-culture reference jokes, because we all know that formula never gets old. :glare: I'm hoping the 2D death is only temporary. People are just excited by 3D movies, I think. People still love the classics, and Disney just need to know how to make special movies again. They could even experiment with 3D technology. How is it only comedies are made with cartoonish-looking 3D? Photo-realistic looks and a mix of PR and cartoon looks are possible. They do it in video games for goodness sake. And video-games are a multi-million dollar industry that attract gamers mainly with pretty graphics. God, I should run Disney. They haven't thought of this great idea, and I have just now. Actually, Disney collaborate with Square-Enix, and SE has already released a successful fast-selling CGI photo-realistic film. Surely they must have noticed by now.
Sorry for rambling there. I support 2D animation, but I'm all for new developments in animation too.
Yeah, Tarzan was great. In fact the only real bad thing about it was Rosie O'Donnell's character. (although I did like her song) But man, who doesn't love that Phil Collins soundtrack?
But yeah, I think you got it on the nose. The pop-culture comedies they try to make. "Oh, it worked for Shrek! Let's do it for EVERYTHING!" Nuh-uh, not if you're gonna make a timeless classic.
Let's look at a list of their contemporary classics. The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame . . .. how many of those had pop-culture jokes? Very very few. Only Aladdin had it in force and that only worked because it was Robin Williams.
And their OLD classics, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Bambi, Pinnochio, had none at all. Hmm, now what conclusion can we make from this?
