Been making my way through the classics off and on. Just finished Tomb of the Cybermen, which was pretty darn good. Of course, since there's so much classic Who to go through and since they're incomplete anyway, I'm skipping pretty much all of the serials with missing episodes and just reading synopses of them instead (which is a shame, because most of the Troughton episodes are missing).
Tomb is absolutely fantastic. Although most of his stories are missing, his entire last season is intact (except for an episode of The Space Pirates but thats crap anyway). Some of his best stuff is in his last season. Definitely some of my favourites.
Complete audio tracks do exist with the stories. You can find them with photos and text for video. It isn't as bad as one would think. I was able to go through all 7 episodes of Marco Polo with ease and really enjoyed the story itself.
Personally I like Telesnap Recons. Got a hell of a load of them kicking around now. Really good for watching things like The Tenth Planet or The Evil of the Daleks. Might even whack The Moonbase on in a minute.
@RobbyBevard:
Well, he also got to interact with people, didn't age, and wasn't running for his life the entire time. It may have been a much longer period of time, but it was probably overall a much less stressful one.
Also, he seems to be able to turn off the Centurian memories. They seem to come and go for him… or so that bit of dialogue in one episode indicated. I get the impression he can pretty much turn those memories off.
And, even though this has been a season of tighter continuity than usual, would ringing in that confusing, and needing of explanation tidbit, really help the episode, or would it have ground the momentum to a halt to go "Oh and by the way, Rory is 2000 years old and has done the waiting thing too and might be part robot before the universe rebooted". The regular audience is aware of the fact, but to fit that into the episode in any way would have just broken it.
I dont think it's that he can turn them on and off, they're just kind of there… and they arent at the same time. I dont think it's so bad that Rory not mentioning the fact that he waited nearly 2000 years and Amy waited just 36. I mean, their married. It's not a competition. Rory waited so that she could come back alive, Amy had been seemingly abandoned and missed her golden years. Theres a huge difference.
But yeah, The Girl Who Waited was a great episode. Probably not quite as good as everyone seems to rate it but definitely another good entry for season 6. Really nice to see that Karen Gillan has actually become an actress rather than the tits and legs she was in early season 5.
Still treading through the Seventh Doctor Big Finish audios. A few dull ones so far but Hex is what saves it. As far as audio companions go, he's damn good. Really, really good. Not quite as fleshed out as characters like Charley Pollard or Lucie "Bleedin'" Miller but definitely a welcome breath of fresh air that makes Ace work a bit better.
Just as an idea, would anyone be up for a Watcher's Club after season 6 has finished? Like we all pick one classic story to watch a week then come back and discuss? Might be a good way for us all to catch up on some of the classics and keep the thread alive during the down time.
