Realy surprised at Uumen !
-
Whoa I'd be shitting my invisible pants if I were Quinn. The rocks would crush him/her so easily.
-
Uumen will totally be the Hitsugaya of Toriko, calling it now.

Don't ever say that again.
Ever.

Who is Uumen again?
Anyway, nice to see Melk the 2nd in the top ten

Komatsus boss.
Now i am totally thumbing for Coco to show up soon.
-
Shimabukuro surprised Coco is so high on the poll "you barely appear on the story, wth?!". I think he doesn't like Coco very much, does him?
Umen looks like the fans trolling. And seriously, Komatsu 3rd and Sani 6th. . .LE FUCK? I can stand Komatsu, he is kind of allright, but compared to Sani/Zebra/Tommyrod/Grinpatch/etc etc etc. . .he's nothing.
Other than that, good chapter. Setsunoo could pass the Death Waterfall like nothing? She's THAT powerful? It took both Toriko and Sani's full energy reserves to pass through it. . .Damn that old lady, she's freaking hardcore!
-

Umm she's like, Jirou's partner.
so…
-
Yeah, and she scared off Alfaro. I already knew she was powerful, but to say she would have "no problem at all" to cross that freaking waterfall. . .now that's power!
Oh, and Komatsu is Toriko's partner, yet he is terribly weak. Being the partner/combo of a powerful being doesn't mean you yourself are powerful. It just so happens that both Jirou and Setsuuno are freaking insane. Maybe Komatsu will end up being freaking strong too, but I doubt it, as this chapter showed us Komatsu being a normal human being is also helpful in some situations.

That's why i said she's Jirou's partner, Acacia's students are obviously the top tier characters in this manga so something like that in the human world is nothing compared to them, hell i won't be surprised if Staajyun could do it easily too.
Plus there's the fact that Setsuno was shown fighting alongside Jirou. And i think that Komatsu is a special case, all the chef partners are uber strong but he has an ability that is rare, and i don't think that it'll ever change, or to be more specific i don't want Komatsu to become very strong even if a probable encounter with other top notch chefs can prove the contrary.
-
I don't think Komatsu is meant to ever be strong. His power isn't as a fighter or a warrior, merely as a chef. And to be a chef, you don't need to be some super-warrior, just understand how to be able to get food and use it to the best of it's ability. He can upgrade his "arsenal" like with the Melk Knife, but that's not for combat, only for cooking.
Interesting chapter though.
-
Interesting chapter but it feels very rushed. Maybe it's just me but I felt this arc would've been a little longer.
Oh well it hasn't been a bad arc, just rushed. Although it seems as if the arc winding down who knows what kind of curveball Shimabukuro could through at us next week?
Also I'm not surprised at all by the popularity poll with the exception of the obviously out of place Uumen. Trust me guys, you wouldn't be surprised at how high Coco's place is if you only knew about the sheer amount of Yaoi that is made of Coco. He's ridiculously popular with female readers.
-
Well, except for the Regal Mammoth and Ice Hell arcs, every other arc has been over pretty fast. I'd say it's surprising since it took like 3-4 chapters to cross the Waterfall and it seemed like the prelude to getting the ingredient, but it looks like it was the main obstacle, and after that there wasn't much to do (at least not much that involves Toriko/Sani).
Let's see if there's something waiting after this, but seeing how both Toriko and Sani are completely exhausted, I think they'll at least get to safety first, eat the gourami and renew energies (and probably evolve their gourmet cells in the process). If a surprise boss were to attack now it would need Toriko to use autophagy and all that stuff to earn energy (and another source of energy renewing for Sani, like Zebra did), and I don't think Shimabukuro wants to abuse the autophagy card so often. It just happened like 10 chapters ago. So I'm pretty sure they'll be safe for now.
-
Yeah, because of all the characters that didn't appear much, Uumen is in like 15 panels in the entire manga. He's in chapter 1, talking about how he'd like Galala Crocodile, and in chapter 19 when he's explaining who the Bishokukai are and he's introduced as Bureau Chief of… Whatever it was. General Affairs or something.
And that's, like, it. He appeared in the anime recently, that's the only reason I can think of. -
Chapter was good. Makes sense how a creature that's so ridiculously hard to get to is extremely fragile and would die in the presence of someone with the strength to actually reach it… Sort of like those scenarios where the leader of a country/armada/etc. is actually really weak but his officers are extremely strong (you rarely see this setup anymore. Usually, the main bad has to be the strongest. Think like Spandam).
-
uumen is funny, he deserves a seat there,,, NO WAY IN HELL, lolz…. anyway, at least this poll deserved the wait unlike the bleach polls .. ..
hmm,, in my opinion, coco deserves 2nd. sunny is funny and all, but coco is kinda cool, and his fights r awesome,.... lolz his soundtrack is my fav too.
-
Didn't expect Coco to be 2nd, but I'm glad he is. lol at Uumen. He's the boss. And wtf, Zonge just looks like a walking penis.:ninja:
-
yeah…. the poll is not what I expected at all, really sad in fact
but the chapter was great, I like how him being weak helped out
-
I loved this chapter! Great story, proving that Komatsu doesn't need Toriko or Sunny's help to make a catch. And it actually turned out in his favor. I liked how the "Twin Kugi Punch" actually does take a lot out of Toriko, showing us that he can't use it often. Next week will be even better I can't wait to see them eating the Shining Gourami. Hopefully Toriko will add it to his Fish Dish for his Full Course!!
I liked the popularity poll results too. I was surprised to see Uumen on there though. He's more popular than Setsuno? Or Ichiryu?
-
Why the hell is Coco second? He's easily the least interesting and likable of the Heavenly Kings. I'm not saying he's a bad character, just a very, very mediocre one. I also wish that Match could've gotten there, he was pretty cool. And Umen at 8th place. What. The. Hell.
Well who really cares at the end of the day.
Another month, another mission. Kouch lee is right, there've been only two arcs in Toriko that were particularly long, so I don't mind this arc being basically over. I actually like that, that we get to go to many places and explore this very interesting world Shimabukurou has created. Definitely has me psyched for what comes next.
-

Uumen?
Hasn't this guy appeared all of twice?
He seems about as interesting as a cardboard box.Japanese troll choice?
-
As far as Coco's placement in the popularity poll goes, what point was the anime at when the voting started? If it was around the time that Coco made his first appearance in the anime, that might have had something to do with it. (maybe? I don't know; I just figure that having an anime makes a series more popular, so the same principle might apply to certain characters appearing in the anime)
-
now i hope coco appears more in the manga due to this

It's the stubble, people. The stubble helped Uumen get into the top 10.

And the hairy chest.

Hey Kewl. The links to the latest episode of Toriko on the Naruto fan forums are broken. Could you please fix them? Thanks.
-
Watched today's episode. Grinpatch's voice is bearable, but the animation was really meh.
-
I quite like Grinpatch's voice, very camp, strangely works.
The censorship is still intolerable though.
No gore, no smoking.Grinpatch's attacks can't break Toriko's skin at all.
Makes Grinpatch look completely ineffective. -
Really? It doesn't even break the skin at all? Even if there's no blood? Shit.

Nope, leaves a slight scuff mark.
Scary stuff. -
I'm very very worried about the upcoming Tommyrod fight now…

Same. I at least hope it's played through and not rushed.
-
Reading these comments makes me happy that i haven't wasted my time w/ the anime.

Toriko Breaks a fingernail and must spend 20 years trying to restore it!
-
Toriko sprains his wrist fighting Tommyrod
-
Hopefully if Toei stays consistant with themselves they arm will be lost but no blood or guts. Because of that gets cut out than his whole mini-arc with Yosaku would be pointless in the anime.
-
And Yosaku probably won't have his cigar branches either…
-
Yosaku breaks the resturant's no littering policy
-
Actually the anime seems to be a bit better now that its past the point where im at in the manga (barely got to the jewel meat arc but im still checking out the newest chapters). I think the majority of what made it feel lackluster before was that i was expecting something directly from the manga and it would affect the pacing and also let me down in that it was changed from it. But now that i dont know what to expect its much more enjoyable, i think the same could be said for any series since the week long breaks and already knowing whats going to happen kinda takes away from the initial wow factor of a animated version of it.
-
Well not entirely. When you read scenes in the manga (I.E. Toriko vs Tommyrod) you want to see it animated. But you are right Starjun's GT Robot emerging from the lake in the sandy beach in the cave and staring them down had more impact in the manga than seeing it again.
-
Gah Grinpatch's voice is so unfitting !
The psychotic tone is here they got that, but everything else…
I mean it could've been Bei's voice, or any fodder.
Anyways i'm still looking forward to the Ice Hell arc to decide whether i'll stop watching it or not. -
It's best to enjoy the anime more simply as an anime rather than an animated adaptation.
-
True. We should take the anime for what it is. We're obviously not going to get everything we wanted from it, but that doesn't brand it as a "failure". I still enjoy the Toriko anime because there's more charm to the story than just the violence.

Spoiler Script Jap By Ohana for chapter 155: http://juinjutsuteam.forumcommunity.net/?t=47416652#entry330301452
could someone translate it?
-
Looks like it's mostly just about them eating the Gourami and talking. And a cliffhanger-y thing at the end.
I'm still waiting on my scanner for a raw. -
Here's what I could make out of the translation:
! Komatsu cooks the fish, Sunny cries about something (I can't make out this word), Toriko describes the shine of the Gourami. Quinn is there I take it.
! Komatsu sprinkles some Melk Stardust on the finished product if I'm interpreting this right. Which gives some reaction to Sunny's hair.
! It says something about Zebra, I don't know if he shows up but the word "Zebura" is mentioned.
! And then it says "In the last frame 'Shake Shake Shake' pretty good teams have strange shadows~"
It's not perfect, this was the best I could make of it. Sorry if it doesn't completely make sense.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Anime review time!
I think Grinpatch's voice is tolerable now. That scene where his eyes widened and he the music stopped and he said "maybe I should just kill you know" I think that voice really fit for that scene. Anyways next week continues their fight? Also, will Komatsu make it in time before the Tuna's flavor disintegrates?

Also, I have the strangest feeling that we will get a new Opening and/or Ending song at the turn of the Century Soup arc.
-
Grinparch's voice kind of reminds me of Pilaf.

Unless Kushida sings the next OP, I can't see how they're going to top GUTS GUTS! That opening is just perfect for a show like Toriko.

I know! But it can't last forever. And I consider the Century soup arc about the half-way point of the current story. So it seems like the perfect spot to me.

Perhaps. But, the thought of a manly opening being possibly switched over to bubblegum pop just doesn't sit well with me.
