Today, after being a diehard nintendo fan for many years, I'm finally giving in and getting a ps2 (seeing as there's so much stuff I've missed out on). However, I have no clue where to start. What game should I get first? o.o
The best PS2 game
-
-
SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS.
… then DQ8.
-
Metal Gear Solid 3
Grand Theft Auto III and San Andreas. -
Devil May Cry 3.
Then Ratchet and Clank 3.
-
Well, naturally I could start spurting out what I like, but what kind of games do you like?
-
I'll just say that I don't like sports games or most fighting games.
-
Final Fantasy X, naturally.
Klonoa 2
Kingdom Hearts
Jak II
God of War. -
Soul Calibur 3, I like that even though I don't care much for fighting games, anyways, you MUST play La Pucelle and Disgaea hour of darkness.
-
The Prince of Persia series was pretty good and also Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time is good too.
And Metal Slug is just a pure fun game to get.
Also I recommend Burnout 3 or Burnout: Revenge, but Need for Speed is better.
-
yes, Burnout is a pretty good game, Need for Speed I hated though. Too Charv (Chav whatever) for me
-
I asked my sister, and she said Kingdom Hearts, along with the Sly Cooper games (but she said to get them in order).
-
Metal Gear Solid 3, without any doubt.
-
god of war, kingdom hearts 1 and II, when it is released in the states, mgs 2(at least rent it) and 3, Burnout 3: Takedown and Revenge aint bad, Need For Speed: Most wanted, FFX (not the piece of shit X-2) and probably a few others. You could got to gamerankings.com and see what the critics thought
-
50 Cent Bulletproof…seriously...
-
I found X-2 to be the best Final Fantasy game, funny eh? Anyways, no, don't get 50 Cent, it will kill your soul
-
Well, I'll take a slightly different route. You got yourself a PS2 but don't forget, you've got a solid PS1 library as well. That said:
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy 10
Midnight Club
Clock Tower 3
Chrono Cross (only if you've played CT of course)
God of War
Pandemonium!
The Mega Man action RPG (the name of which I can't recall)
Sonic Collection
Mega Man Collection
Final Fantasy Origins/Anthology
Dragon Quest 8are all decent games that seem to appeal to a wide audience. Naturally something like RPG's, especially ones like FF, will not appeal to anyone that doesn't like them to begin with, but this seems like a pretty powerful and fun list of games that are both worth the time and the money.
-
Hmm I don't have huge number of PS2 games but they more or less out number my GC and X-box games.
Devil May Cry 3
Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain
Final Fantasy X
Onimusha 3
Max Payne
Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within
Prince Of Persia: TTT (FYI I have the complete trilogy)
DragonBall Z Budokai 3 (preferably the jap. version since they have 3 exclusive customes for Goku, Piccolo, & Future Trunks and because it has Ore Wa Tokoton Tomarani which is performed by Hironobu Kageyama)
-
If you want dbz you have to get dbz: sparking(budokai tenkaichi in the states) the japanese version is better because of the inclusion of the japanese va's and the kick ass opening sequence set to we gotta power. "do-ra-go-n bo-ru- zeeee!!!" Now that song kicks ass
-
Well the US version has Japanese voices too. If you're gonna buy the JP version, get it for the BG music. It's like watching the original episodes.
-
I have both ISOs and am trying to replace the BGM in the US ISO with the japanese BGM track. can't figure it out though…
-
Might as well recommend some PS games too:
Megaman Legends (1 and 2)
Breath of Fire IIIThey're a pain to find, but it's worth it (I completely lucked out on finding Legends 2). Shouldn't be that much either, probably around $15.
EDIT:
Used the wrong "too"… -
As long as PS games are being recommended, Ape Escape. Pure, insane fun at its best.
-
If you don't mind the strange, I'd say get Katamari Damacy or the sequel I Heart Katamari.
I'm a big fan of the Jak series, and the games are probably no more than twenty or thirty bucks by now except for the new one.
Since the PS2 also plays old PS1 games, there are a shitload from that system that i'd still play. I can't really think of any at the moment but that's more because i haven't played any of the old games since high school.
-
I second that you should get the Katamari series. Allso I recomend:
Final Fantasy 3,6,8,9,10
Devil May Cry 1 and 3 (2 was horrid)
Grand Theft Auto Vice City and San Andreas
Resident Evil 4 (if you have a game cube get it for that)
God Of War
Fight Night round 1,2Ill update some more if I can think of any
-
ps2:
- metal gear solid 3
- star ocean: till the end of time
- silent hill 2
and buy final fantasy 7!!! (or wait for the hypothetic, best game ever, ff7 for the ps3)
if you're into fighting games, definitely soul calibur 3, even if you have to buy a memory card especially for the game.
-
I found ff7 to be overated, but its still a pretty good game. If you want a Final Fantasy game, get 1-6, they are imo the better ones and most fun.
Suikoden 1 and 2 are must buys, as is Grandia 1 and 2. Breath of Fire III and IV (not played 3, but its supposed to be the best one) are awesome RPGs too.
Also:
Theme Hospital,
Little Big Adventure,
Civilisation II,
Theme Park and
ConstructorThese are pretty good ports of awesome PC games, though pretty old, but that shouldn't stop you.
-
I'd recommened
Timesplitters 2
it's a great game if you have some friends to play with.
-
PS1:
Klonoa
Tomba 1 or 2
Wild Arms II (Only one I played)
Spyro games (only Insomniac. These babies got me into gaming)
Heart of Darkness (if you can find it)
Brave Fencer Musashi
Ape EscapePS2:
Sly Cooper Games
Jak&Daxter, Jak 3 (Never played 2)
Samurai Legend Musashi
Klonoa 2
Kingdom HeartsGames I've heard of but never played for the PS2 that are awesome:
God Of War
Katamari games -
Viewtiful Joe (only if you don't have the GC version but the PS2 version has Dante from "Devil May Cry" as an unlockable character)
NBA Street Vol.2
Megaman X Collection
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Capcom vs Snk 2
Tekken 4
Kinnikuman Generations
-
I have very few PS2 games, but I've played some at my freinds house and borrowed them and they are good.
Jak&Daxter series (play them in order they came in if you want it to make sense)
Battlefront II
Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies (isn't there a #5 out or something?)
God of War -
Let's see:
Sly Cooper (1-3)
Sonic Heroes
Kingdom Hearts (1-2)
Final Fantasy X
Megaman X Collection
Samurai Legend Mushashi
Klonoa 2
Devil May Cry (1-3… You're right rice-a-roni.. Number 2 was BAD)
Resident Evil 4
One Piece (ALL except the U.S version of Grand Battle) -
I've only played Metal Gear 2 & 3 (I recommend both) ,Dragonball Z Budokai 3 (ok, if you're a fan [a big fan]), and Socom 2 & 3 are awesome, too. Oh yah and Katamari Damacy. It's a very fun game to play.
-
One Piece Grand Battle Rush
Dragon quest 8my faves in ps2
-
If your going to go online, then teh SOCOM series are good games to play. Just don't go on it on Friday evenings because that's when all the armpit fetishers play.
-
I have a ton of favorites, but best? Well, uh…..Tekken 5. Yeah.
-
PS1:
Klonoa
Tomba 1 or 2
Wild Arms II (Only one I played)
Spyro games (only Insomniac. These babies got me into gaming)
Heart of Darkness (if you can find it)
Brave Fencer Musashi
Ape EscapePS2:
Sly Cooper Games
Jak&Daxter, Jak 3 (Never played 2)
Samurai Legend Musashi
Klonoa 2
Kingdom HeartsGames I've heard of but never played for the PS2 that are awesome:
God Of War
Katamari gamesWow; I found someone with a nearly identical taste in games! Add a few Final Fantasies, and that's one great collection.
And It's great to see so many klonoa lovers out there…that game never gets enough praise. -
Maximo: Army Of Zin
Warriors
Samckdown vs Raw 2006
Burnout 3Eventhough it doesn't exist on the PS2 yet you could wait for Super DragonBall Z.
-
Ape escape, monkeys conquer all
-
The Ratchet and Clank series are some kick ass games
-
Don't forget Devil May Cry one, although you can skip two cause it was a little too easy.
-
Pretty much anything "Final Fantasy," Kingdom Hearts, and if you can find it (highly doubtful), Suikoden II. That game rocks. Chrono Cross and Ape Escape are also good options (I liked their predecessors better, though). There's a lot of good games to try; just use your instinct, I guess.
-
Ratchet and Clank (Any, but 3's the best IMO)
Devil May Cry 3
Soul Calibur 3
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Kingdom Hearts -
Action:
- Metal Gear Solid 3
- Devil May Cry 3
- God of War
- Kingdom Hearts
- Grand Theft Auto 3
- Resident Evil 4
- Resident Evil: Outbreak
Fighting:
- Tekken 5
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2
- King of Fighters: Maximum Impact
- Soul Caliber 3
RPG:
- Final Fantasy X
- Star Ocean: 'Til The End of Time
- Shadow Hearts: Covenant
- Dragon Quest VIII
-
I somehow got bored with Dragon Quest VIII within the first day I got a demo… probobly because it was the first Dragon Quest game I've played.
-
You don't need to have played the earlier games in a series to enjoy a game I mean I played FFX, DQ8, DBZB3, & DMC3 eventhough I hadn't played the earlier games.
-
Kingdom Hearts hands down.
-
I'm going to have to go with "Katamari Damacy". It's simple controls and gameplay made for some serious fun. The whole concept was genius and it's highly addicting and fun. I cant wait for the PSP version to come out in the US.
-
I'd say the warriors it was nice and simple and I liked the dialog and loved the movie and characters.
-
@The:
Wow; I found someone with a nearly identical taste in games! Add a few Final Fantasies, and that's one great collection.
And It's great to see so many klonoa lovers out there…that game never gets enough praise.…Creepy o.o And yes, while I don't actually own a copy of it, Klonoa is awesome. I seriously need to get the copy of it on the GBA.
suddenly reminded of the bizzare review Klonoa was given on X-Play
...Eww...
-
I'd say Shadow of the Colossus and God of War are good places to start.
