what made you think that would we see chopper's new form? seemed like a random statement to me :X
He didn't think we would see it. He was just hoping to see it.

I thought the chapter wasn't to bad. Its nice to see that the new fishman pirates are some what of a threat and i had a few laughs ,it just feels a bit disappointing. But it was still good.
disappointed compared to what? This is typical One Piece. People are still hopped up on marineford. Excellent chapter, people who don't like can go read Naruto (where its plain action for the mindless). We're 630 chapters in and theres nothing abnormal, this is how Goda writes. Its the weekly wait getting to you
i predict monster hodi will end up fighting jinbe, and jinbe will be defeated by him. this queues up luffy beating a guy stronger than jinbe
So erhmm… Dudes hair looks like a penis...
Hum, I don't know what to think. The fodder doesn't need a whole dedicated episode.
As we know this was a chapter made to prepare battles, story etcetera. Chapter isn't good on his own but it is an usual thing Oda does.
Nothing to talk about. But there is one thing that bothers me. Zoro getting captured and staying that way via chains. It is a major fail. I can't and won't accept it.
Zoro should be able to chew those things. We are talking about Zoro here. Just because he is a swordsman he cannot be brought down to an ordinary human being when doesn't have his swords.
In Luffy's case I thought: there is no need for Luffy to escape from those and Luffy knows it too. But Zoro right now is in a life threatening situation. How come some stupid chains can overpower and stop him? And we all know Zoro's physical strength is beyond human limits. And this information come from the scenes before the time skip.
When he drowned and get captured, I was ok with it saying myself: OK, Oda does his limits. No oxygen it is over. But not being able to escape after getting conscious is big fail on Oda's part.
And please Oda, don't make Hodi have a power up by screaming. Don't. Are you being ironic this whole arc?
So erhmm… Dudes hair looks like a penis...
Thanks for making me spit the water I was drinking kage.
About time to get some development for the "villains" although i didn't really like the chapter,i think that it probably would be better if this chapter and last week's chapter were "mixed" and not like this.
All the NFP are completely idiots even if they are "amusing" they don't really look a serious threat for the crew, except from hyozo who seems the only one that can be a match for the SH and maybe the junkie/hodi..
It was nice to found out that Zoro's slash damaged Hodi really bad and for god's sake you must be a retard to take a bunch of the ES just to feel better…painkillers anyone..?
Anyway i really hope that someone else will be the main villain of the arc,at least a serious opponent because Hodi just seems completely retard for me even if he gets a "huge power up"/becomes berserk from the ES
Anybody else thinking about Ikarus/sanji for obvious reasons and maybe Daruma/Brook because i remember in the previous chapter he said something that he likes bones or something like this,or it was a wrong translation?
I think most of us are disappointed because we didn't find out about Luffy/Jinbe but we knew that Oda had to develop the bad guys,so i hope next chapter we'll see the fight or the outcome. Also about time to get a "mini map" at least to understand the place somehow because i think most of us,if not all were "lost".
Chapter was "ok" for me,even if it didn't have the excitement about the fight of Luffy/Jinbe,it was funny to see the NI(iditos)FP!
Hum, I don't know what to think. The fodder doesn't need a whole dedicated episode.
I agree.. so maybe they arent fodder? I could see Hyozou and Zoro becoming friends somehow
He didn't think we would see it. He was just hoping to see it.
Actually yes, I did sorta expect it. On the colorspread for chapter 628 he's in a new form. The same colorspread that revealed Robin's clone ability.
i guess hordy going to evolve or something
Hum, I don't know what to think. The fodder doesn't need a whole dedicated episode.
The chapter was clearly to give them some development, otherwise it would be awkward to suddenly see them fighting.Just because we saw more of their (silly) personallity doesn't automatically makes them a threat. It's obvious that if Zoro's ONE slash damaged the junkie so much to take ES one after another to be concious, only confirms that they are "fodder".
They will suck up cola instead
And weird things will happen
i'm sure this was jokenly said, but doubtful that these squids will puncture through franky's body when bullets don't
then also the coke WAS in bottles before another barrier, and who knows if they may be in a keg now?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
This early part of the arc feels a little like how W7 used to feel, where we're dealing with obviously overmatched opponents and a much larger threat that's looming in the background.
I thought this chapter was funny and accomplished exactly what it set out to do.
it used to feel like water 7.
but this chapter made me feel like enies lobby when we got introduced to the cp9 members.
I woudl be very surprised if some secret boss showed up as some point.
I'm hoping these guys get serious enough to put up a good fight. I'm remembering CP9, where Fukurou, Jyabura and Kumadori all looked like complete jokes with their gags and face faults, but then turned out to be competent opponents.
One question,i didn't understand the scene about Zeo.What is the reason that he self-named as the "noble of the FD" because i didn't really get it
@Kitetsu:
i guess hordy going to evolve or something
I really hope not , that is not Goda stile.

I believe it's really different because back then we KNEW that they were members of the CP9 and even if they were joking around and looked like jerks i doubt anybody thought that they would be weak, also the crew back then was nowhere near the level it is now.Back then we saw at the GalleyLa mansion how EASILY the CP9 gave luffy/zoro the "fodder treatment" so it was obvious that they would be strong.
Now it is exactly the opposite because the crew had 2 whole years of training and right now the NFIdiots looks more like "fodders" if not for the ES but we don't really know how much difference it can make to their power but i doubt they would be a serious threat.
As a one piece fan i feel i have a duty to say the last few episodes have been far from the one piece i no, im not gonna except every chapter oda gives us and try to make the best of it as sometimes you need to critisize if we start excepting everything then the quality will fall.
Heres hoping hordy turns into a beast.
One question,i didn't understand the scene about Zeo.What is the reason that he self-named as the "noble of the FD" because i didn't really get it
Because despite getting a beating he still talked all eloquently about Hodi's plans to the populace.
Hodi is going to be a pain in the ass for the brothers but then get one-shotted by Jinbei and Luffy. Neither Jinbei or any of the SH are getting pushed. Don't know why everybody is obsessed with 1on1 fights. Our gluttonous cookiecutter shark man is the one who set the real events in motion.
Not an exciting chapter, but a necessary one. When you think of the fact that all of these guys were dispersed across the island, it is a good move to send them all to a single location to ease storytelling in the future. So now focus is in Gyoncorde Palace, the Sea Forest, and the Palace, instead of all over the island. VDD and Caribou are the only ones with unspecified location, but they're obviously going to head towards wherever the princess is.
As for the NFP, it really does look like they'll be matched up, otherwise I don't understand the exposition they're getting. Still, I'm really starting to think that there is more to this arc to be seen. Things like the candy factory being arbitrarily demolished by Daruma, and the source of the ES not really being mentioned clearly. There's also the whole thing with the murder of Otohime and the revenge of that tennryubito. I also feel like at some point there will be a reason for Fishman Island to NOT want to be part of reverie, seeing how the world government has been portrayed as a major antagonist. And yea, there also still needs to be a reason for Luffy to really get pissed off enough to take the bold move of destroying the whole island.
Hoping Oda doesn't disappoint.

I get it,thank you!
I believe that is because of what ikaros words so most of us believe that he'll fight with sanji/franky and i believe that Daruma would fight with Brook because of what he said in the previous chapter, that he likes bones(if it wasn't a bad translation).
As for Hodi i am with you it's clear that he can't be a serious problem for luffy and/or Jinbe.I really hope that he will not transform/evovle though,i think it would be really strange
for them to be so threatining they sure are goofy. we got a drunken sword fighting fishman .one thats afraid he'll turn in to dried squid and we have a dude that dgets beaten to hell cause his crew didn't see him before they started to pound on the "cockroach".XD
Well hyozo is the only one that looks like a serious problem for the SH,especially for Zoro because i think that after so much hype, "i am the n1 swordsman in FI" etc etc,i think it's safe to assume they will fight sooner or later and even if Zoro can easily overpower him(which i doubt that would be easy),his poison would be a serious problem.

This.
How come nobody else talks about Zoro?
He has the strenght to lift a building, practices with 1 ton dumbells and can't break some chains? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
this chapter was ok by I gotta ask the one question everyone is thinking about .WHEN ARE THEY GONNA FIGHT? I mean i get that he tryna branch out the character a little bit but seeing that bad guys generals lay waste to some of their own grunts was not a good paced chapter. I feel like this could be turned in to one half of an episode.
I'm not expecting any real problems for the SH's
my guess is typical one on one fights oda always does, it's the best way to show the improvement in their strength
my guess
zoro vs hyozo
franky vs dosun
sanji vs much/caribou
Ideally the match ups would be similar to Arlong Park, where power-levels do not play a role, but instead we see bad-ass match-ups from all of the members. I consider the Arlong Park battles to be the best in One Piece, and the Douriki b.s. in EL the worst.
The story has become quite text-heavy. I know it's necessary to fit in all of the events and interactions that's happening, but I could go for a slower pace in the story with less text.
Both the war and this arc has a lot happening in a short period of time and I hope things will cool down a bit in future arcs.
Hyozo vs vasco shot. Who drinks more?
checks cover Pfff looooool best post of the thread.
Hodi about to turn into the Hulk?

Who cares about the fighting? I prefer character development, a sense of adventure, and the complexity of whats going on which is why i'm loving this arc

Loving that last thing man. Just in the end, you know that something bigger is going to happen.

I actually think that what we've seen so far are showing that these guys are still relatively young/are kids. Kids are easier to c hange than adults, which is what Oda might have been leaning towards with this chapter.
The NFP lieutenants and Hodi are about 30.
well there has been alot better chapters than this one.
I guess this is just a prelude to the fact that SH will not step in in this war.
But oda could have done it in half the volume and put more action.
I guess even writers needs to rest..
The whole no match for the strawhats is a bunch of bullshit. The only ones that got a great amount stronger is Luffy, Sanji and Zoro and maybe Zoro. Of course Luffy got to a level where most on the island right now wuld be fodder to him but the rest of the mugiwara's will have plenty of hard opponents. We still haven't seen the supossed people stronger than Hodi on the island.(I think we will soon since Hodi seems out of the picture) It's not like franky will stomp dosun. At least I dont think so.
I expect difficult figths for everyone. Especially difficult fights.
Luffy vs boss
Sanji vs caribou/vdd
Zoro vs hyozu/hodi
Usopp vs VDD/zen
Franky vs dosun
the rest idk. Rbin will hopefully destroy someone again.
Chopper vs Daruma. This will happen.
wow this was without a doubt one of the worst one piece chapters in a long time. such a waste of fucking time.
Speaking of matchups, I'm actually intrigued by Zeo's ability. Invisibility in a fishman…and didn't Robin way back say she needed to see an enemy to use her power on it. Add to the fact that Zeo seems like he might be the flexible type of fish, and we might actually get the first Robin fight since Skypiea. Interesting!
I also like this characterization we're getting. Zeo's a pretty cool guy, I like how he takes his beating in stride. Plus his name reminds me of the Power Rangers, so that's always a plus. I dunno, I'm starting to think that these guys can at least put up a fight against the SHs. Ikaro's looks like a beast, he's got clearly got super strength and his squid spears seems like an instant death move. While I agree the SH should be much stronger, they aren't all going to instantly be on par with the shichiubkai. Especially everyone who isn't Sanji/Zoro/Luffy, the rest of the crew were jobbing like crazy before the time skip, to the point where they were near useless. What I think it going to happen is that these NFP pirates are going to just up just enough of a fight to allow the SHs to show off these powers. These upcoming battles might sacrifice drama and tension for more fun and fanservice.
Oh my gosh, I couldn't stop laughing at Hyozou and Zeo (and cockroach). I'm glad that at least one of the NFPs is having a darn good time from something other than intentionally causing suffering, and poor Zeo. At least the cockroach got away! XD And though I wasn't as amused by it, I was still thrilled to see the ironic use of Greek Mythology in Icaros's story. Squids getting too close to the sun… HA!
As for the pairings everyone's starting to predict... the only one I care about is Hyozou right now, and I'm probably the only one that really doesn't want Zoro to be the one facing him. I think he'd take a bit more than sword ability to take down, like Usopp's ingenuity or even Nami's trickery, something more unexpected. The top swordsmen don't always have to be the ones to face each other. I'd love Oda if he went without that obvious a match-up.
I'd be even more amazed if there didn't end up being any match-ups, but they are so long overdue that I am looking forward to some good, paired battles.
well true not one of the best but we did know how the prince will fair against hodi's army, SH is not needed
and we know the drugs have a limit. we also know the villians and had a good idea of their powers.
this chapter just needed more action than trivia :)
wow this was without a doubt one of the worst one piece chapters in a long time. such a waste of fucking time.
Lol at the cover, nice to see that sword shopkeeper still think highly of Zoro.
Yeah as stated though this was more of the villain showcase started last chapter but it nice we get a look into their personalities.
Dosun: Feh common supporter. Though I like how his speech indicates what energy level he on. Seriously doubt he can take on the princes again if he got beaten so easily even with the energy steroids. Oooh I can shatter a building, big whoop. Possible opponent: Mmm I would Brook or Ussop.
Hyozou: Great so along with having poison tentacles he also a drunken master with a sword. Thats gonna be an interesting match. Possible Opponent: Seriously this one has Zoro written all over it.
Zeo: A noble of fishman island huh? So does that mean he has honor or something. The whole invisibilty thing also smacks of Ablasom from Thriller Bark. Oda really didn't do much with that so I guess he trying again to see it he can do it right. LOL on his getting beaten by his own subordinates though. Possible opponent: I wanna say Sanji but maybe Chopper.
Ikaros Much: I guess this guys suppose to be the "Hachi" of the bunch. Especially considering he has extra arms and fights with spears and hand palms. The fire being a weakness thing will do doubt play a role in his defeat. Possible opponent: Leaning toward Franky with him. Possibily with either Nami or Robin.
And back to Hordy who hulking out on us. LOL I figured that fight with Zoro was a tad too easy so of course Oda gonna throw us a curve ball. But makes thing more interesting at least. Till next week =D
I woudl be very surprised if some secret boss showed up as some point.
Imagine Arlong showed up, that would be hilarious
Just because a chapter doesn't have the strawhats, doesn't mean it sucks.
I think Chopper will fight ikaros he seems to always get the most retarded opponents. Gedatsu, kumadori well that's it but that was some funny shit.
Every time anyone says the chapter didn't accomplish anything all I can say is "characterization" and "energy steroid process," and that's not even all it did.
It did feel weird seeing all those weird and quirky designs next to each other. Not gonna argue with that. It left a weird taste in my mouth.
