Cancellation, although it wouldn't happen, would achieve a lot.
Wrap up this unsalvageable hunk of crap, start fresh with a writer partner, and Kubo still has chance to redeem himself. If I tried to improve my work after (finally) noticing I'm doing a horrible job and still got kicked out, I doubt I'd still be that motivated to keep trying. As you said, he has talent and I think he should get a(nother) chance to show it with Bleach.
But yeah, he would probably come off his high horse and consider such options if Bleach was just cancelled. But that's not gonna happen either way I guess, it's still way too popular for that. Thus, currently I'd rather see him realizing his mistakes by getting a positive feedback through the TOC if he does decent chapters and being at the bottom for horrible ones and see how that plays out. -
At the very least we'd have more room in Jump for a decent series to take up
-
Give Kubo the drawing and character designs, but not the paneling. The writer in the team should figure out the paneling.
-
If Bleach actually could compare to any of the other manga in SJ that would be agreeable. But it isn't, the guy makes a disgrace of the manga industry by still continuing with this. At least i think so.
-
uhh… what?
First of all, T never posted that.
Second of all, that Japanese text is asking about PRINCE OF TENNIS.
Third, Ohana already confirmed Dois Sol ending, and said the ending was pretty simple. So no, T's not wrong. You're getting trolled.
Check your sources before spreading them, bro
My bad then. Just thought it was credible since no one had violent reactions about it. Maybe they just didn't care much if Dois Sol will really be cancelled or not. >.<

What's actually news this time is that Naruto is also doing poorly. After 10 days since the release of the 56th volume, it only sold 756,666 copies.
Of course it's still a huge number, but remember one year ago when it would unhesitatingly sell 1m in the first 2 weeks? And to add to that, vol 54 had sold a bit over 900k in its first 2 weeks, and vol 55 around 850k copies. If my memory doesn't fail me, a new Naruto volume doesn't do this poorly since 2007-2008. I guess the current arc is boring even the japanese.Do I detect a steady decrease? See for yourselves:

On topic: Toriko, Magico, Bakuman and Gintama deserve doing so well. And even Medaka Box is finally becoming a bit more popular.
-
How low those Bleach need to fall before it's finally cancelled? Can someone answer this question for me?
-
Bottom .
-
And it still has volume sales to back with which'll still sell better than almost every other manga in SJ no matter how low it gets.
-
I highly doubt that SJ would cancel a series that has been running for almost 10 years, let alone a series that was once highly popular.
-
I highly doubt that SJ would cancel a series that has been running for almost 10 years, let alone a series that was once highly popular.
Oh they would alright.
They have no souls you see.
-
And that's exactly why they will keep it running regardless. Bleach still is a money printing machine and low rankings in the TOC won't change that, at least for a long time.
-
It has to meet one of the two quotas to stay in, polls or sales.
As long as sales is above quota, even if poll drops to rock bottom, it's in the safe zone. And I can't imagine Bleach dropping below sales threshold.

Hmm…...would some nasty rumours about Kubo affect sales ? :ninja:
-
@Thousand:
No, it deserves to rot in mediocrity like the miserable series that it is.
agreed
Regardless of how much you hate it, you have to admit it was better before. In my opinion, if Kubo finally gets his shit together and gets it back to its previous of quality, it would well deserve a place in the higher Top 10, maybe even Top 5.
Even at it's best it still wasn't that good
Going from shit to shittier isn't really helping.
It started out mediocre and average, readable and some funny humor.
Then it went to shit. Then it went to shittier.
Now it's bottom of the dump pit shit.Going back up a notch isn't gonna save this.
I personally think Kubo DOES have a lot of talent. His slice-of-life scenes were entertaining, and characters (originally) endearing.
I think he's similar case to Oh! Great… he has great foundation building, but is utterly worthless in keeping up with long cohesive serializing plot.
Kubo would do SOOOOOOOOO much better if he got a gensaku writer to partner up with.
Kubo can basically fill the role of someone like Inazuma in HOTD or Obata in Bakuman.
co-write with a good writer, but leave the main plots, direction, and pacing up to the writer. But from seeing his public image, I think he's probably too proud of himself to admit this.
His comments come out as.... prickish and full of pride.agreed
@No:
Hell even good comic writers can fuck up their continuity with no planning, even on a personal story !
The ending to Preacher has no less then three large gaping plotholes, based on stuff that was shown before.
(1. How can the Saint's bullet kill God if it cannot even kill a vampire ? 2. Why didn't God just stop time and walk past the saint ? 3. Why couldn't he hear The Saint and Jesse planning this if he can aparently "hear" anything uttered on earth while being on earth ? Not even mentioning why God would allow the Saint to get weapons that can even kill him, or to make him unkillable even by his divine self)
But the difference is Garth was at least original and fun back then.
Kubo…..is not. Seriously, back in the day he had a giant in a fez show up, now he has......Riruka.
WOW….how did he fuck that up?
@No:
Isn't a writer also drawing prety rare in america and more commonplace in Japan btw ?
I do this….i'm no professional though
@No:

depends on the rumor and the crowd. One crowd would be disgusted and another intrigued

WSJ Issue 29 cover:
and@Sasaki:
We have 2 new series starting issue 30 and 31. I will tweet in detail about those new series later this week.
-
2 new series eh? Interesting.
-
The lead cover looks pretty cool. Looking forward to the two new series.
-
Two new series…I'm not sure about how many space exactly is available in Jump right now, but since Dois Sol is pretty much done I wonder what's the next series to get the axe? Sengoku Armors maybe?
-
I want the rankings to be revealed quickly so I can see how far Bleach fell this week.
-

I'd imagine Dois Sol and Sengoku Armors are getting the axe.
-
You're all forgetting about Grimm which just got serialized a week after Dois Sol. It seem lower than SA in the previous Toc's.
-
I'd imagine Dois Sol and Sengoku Armors are getting the axe.
And to think I actually thought Sengoku Armors had potential. Who'd have thought it would turn out to be such crap?

What was it about and how exactly did it become crap ? :O

That's right, I forgot about Grimm. Grimm seems possible too.
-
@No:

It was basically about samurai with magical weapons, which sounded really cool to me, but it's been doing crap in the ratings, and no one was really speaking highly of it, so I admit I'm assuming it's bad. I should probably actually read more than the first chapter if I'm to judge it, but regardless it failed, which is sad because it had a decent premise.

Yeah actually now that I think of it. Although this was during the Sengoku feudal period in Japan, not present day, and there weren't any demons in it. So in some ways it's premise is less interesting than Bleach. Then again as terrible as it is, Bleach's premise was cool, which is probably why people bothered to read it. That sadly turned into one of the most embarassing Japanese comic book series to ever blight Shonen Jump.

Bleach has no premise beyond a very basic shouneny setup of "hero fights monsters with magical powers".

Before it turned into….whatever the hell that was that wasted a few hours worth of our lives.

Good shounen manga has a very clear, set goal from the get-go.
One Piece "I'm going to be the Pirate King and find the legendary treasure One Piece!"
FullMetal Alchemist "We're going to find a way to get our lost body back!"A really good shounen manga never lose the focus of the series, regardless of how far the series goes. (A few sidetracking is acceptable)
Failed ones loses focus of the main theme, and becomes a trainwreck.
Decent series may have vague focus at start, but gradually develops a focus early in the series.Terrible ones tend to not have one to begin with. I don't think it's even necessary to bring up which one that is.

Yep, I'd say everything in this post checks out. thumbs up
-
Or it can be like Naruto where the main focus gets achieved offscreen.

Bwahahahahaha, that was a really good one

There are exceptions though, but mostly gag manga and dragon ball who's goal is not something tangible but a life phylosophy "protect those in front of me", "to help those in need", "to figth strong guys!".
-
Slice of Life and Episodic works with no visible long term goal are expected.
But in shounen manga field, it's pretty solid a guideline to go by.(episodic ones like Master Keaton can stay awesome, but that's a seinen manga.
They have a lot more leverage of freedom in keeping a stable serialization.) -
WSJ Issue 29 cover:

andgintoki, like a mother fucking boss.
lord, I wish the scanlation scenario for Gintama wasn't so fucked. There are chunks missing, and we're like 6 months behind. Because when Gintama is good, it's really good. That counts for humor and the serious arcs. When it isn't good, which happens every so often, it does kinda bump along, but it's still one of the best series in Jump, hands down.
-
Did Ao no exorcist get canned?
-
Isn't that in a monthly mag? Or am I confusing it with another series?
-
Did Ao no exorcist get canned?
Ao no Exorcist just recently got an anime and the volumes have been selling really well. I think the last top 30 list had all six volume on it.
-
Ao no Exorcist is on Jump Square, not Weekly Shounen Jump.
It's successful to the point that it's never been in the latter half of the magazine ever since it started serialization. -

If you're talking about the one-shot, it was a guest appearance chapter to celebrate the anime starting.
It was only on the first double issue of the year, and was a one-shot only deal. -

-

On T's One Piece spoiler he listed the bottom five and I saw Bleach.Wow.
The ship keeps sinking.
-
….AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Bottom 5!!! Fucking A+++
*sees HnS position
Damn.... -
Now if both Gintama and Toriko got above Naruto permanently..

But it's a shame that it won't get the axe, though.
