I believe this anime was treated wrong due to the dub….so i say we should tell other forums to watch one piece in sub to show what this anime is really made of....whos with me!?
We should spread One Piece!
-
-
I'm pretty sure that we've all been doing that sort of thing. To different extents, but the same general idea
-
Brilliant plan: Obtain a large number of copies of volume 1, leave them in public restroom stalls around America. People will pick them up as a captive audience.
-
We've sorta been trying to do that ever since the dub got really bad.
-
well…...ever since naruto went to fillers, i thought i should see one piece and when i did, man, was i surprise! A really great anime!!!! Thats why i want everybody to know about!! Im only in ep 140 for now...Cant wait to see more!

People won't give it a chance. We have otaku in America that dislike OP because it's too "western" and not distinctively Japanese. Interesting logic, I would wager, as OP is the highest rated manga AND Anime there…maybe there's something in the show Americans just miss?
BatDan's signature speaks clearly. OP is popular everwhere but America.
...
In regard to the topic, if OP were a hydra, only the immortal head is still alive. 4Kids butchery of the show up until the Drum Arc killed anything going for it for the already biased otaku. The manga, which started off great, has had a noticeable decrease in quality (as in price and paper quality) in comparison to other Jump comics. I noticed font and contextual changes that were quite annoying. Example given.
Mihawk: (when asked why he attacked Krieg) I just wanted to kill time.
Mihawk: (Jump) For Fun!Which sounds more like a Shichibukai? Some lame pleasure seeker, or someone so utterly powerful, everyone else's lives are insignificant in comparison?
Until Alabastia arrives, OP will not become the success Naruto is right now. If 4Kids remains true, even in the slightest, to the Alabastia arc, there should be an explosion of popularity. This is, however, going to coincide with the Chuunin Exam Arc of Naruto. I'm interested to see how the dice play out.
-
Thankfully I have managed to show my friends the light of the sub and I will be showing people the subs at my anime club… so I'm getting there a little at a time..
-
I shown most of the people I know who watches One Piece the subs, most of them like it better while one or two still liked the dub…

Well…. One Piece is pretty close to Naruto in ratings (both of them get great ratings), and considering that it's only the dub, I'd say that's a pretty big accomplishment.
So I wouldn't say One Piece is "popular" persay.... But it is a hit on Toonami.
-
It's not going to work. 4Kids has already tarnished the good name that is One Piece.
I asked an anime fan if he liked it and he said no. I asked why and he saw the dub. He won't listen when I tell him about K-F either.
Plus, the fact that One Piece isn't full of blood in every chapter and Ninja kind of destroys it's reputation.
The only way that we can destroy the menace is Time Travel and that's not even possible.
-
i think it's better to have a small community of people enjoying one piece. what's the use of spreading one piece? if that was me, i'd have prefered 4kids never showed one piece, no matter the quality, dubbing, edits.

Actually, I'd consider the latter the more Shickabuchai answer. Although it's the tone of it more than the words. It's forceful, direct. The former makes it sound like a kid's excuse "I was bored, and then I started playing with my sword, and someone tapped me, and it went flying, and they were all dead, and I'm sorry mommy…"
I think other variations on the first language could have been even better though.

I helped my friend about One Piece and they loved it….i was happy to do my job. Now i want USA to understand One Piece better..
P.S. recently i heard they doin more rating than naruto but thats what i heard...

The popularity sends mixed messages. Drum only played for the last week of November, while the other three weeks had Whisky Peak. Whisky was a more faithful arcs, maybe, but still within the realm of 4Kids "extreme" edits. What we want is good ratings for the Drum Arc, which tells 4Kids to loosen up on their guidelines. If the ARLONG ARC were to score that 4.0 rating, what kind of message does that tell 4Kids? "Keep up the good work?!"

Ahh, the standard "we like what we like, everyone else can go fudge themselves" argument.
To address, it's in our best interests to have OP a phenomenon. It's incentive for Oda to keep working his magic in Japan. OP is a perfect manga, and has never had a slump; aside from Oda's tendancy to keep characters alive, there's nothing objectionable. Compare this with other Shonen Titles, Shojo titles, or even adult manga; like Berserk, OP has a perfect story, with perfect delivery, developed and dynamic characters and a suitable art style. Furthermore, what distances Oda from others, even Miura, is his schedule; he rarely takes breaks (although there's been a strain of them recently), but his manga never shows it.
So, we have a case of an injustice. Kishimoto becomes rich, but can screw up Naruto for an arc or two, and Oda has a perfect record but still remains hated in America? It's an unfitting tribute to him, and the least we can do is popularize him here. Afterall, most of the money Oda can make off OP is in western audiences, SPECIFICALLY America. 4Kids fudged with that, so we can never forgive them.

Judging from Mihawk's reation to Zoro, and how laid back he was, I never thought he would be someone who would take the initiative to go looking for fun. I mean, he sleeps and drifts along on a coffin-raft. That's usually a good Anime indication of huge power, and I can't imagine a huge power going after a fish like Krieg. Mihawk's beyond being a bastard, y'know?
-
I think the For Fun thing without the exlamation point is a little better because he sounds less like a kid
-
…aside from Oda's tendancy to keep characters alive, there's nothing objectionable.
Actually, I like them alive. It makes things much, MUCH more interesting, getting to see all these past villains return and start hunting down Luffy and all. XD

…dude, i couldn't have said it better myself. god, this makes me loathe kishimoto even more.... i mean, he's good, but not that good. nothing of his has really caught my interest, even his colorspreads. that really isn't fair that oda works so hard and gives us such beautiful work and he still gets the short end of the stick?
also…. speaking of which, it really pisses me off when people say that oda doesn't even put any effort into his work. just because its not all shiny and detailed like generic manga.... i like the fact that his style is more "western" he takes elements from old cartoons and such, and i like that. there's just so much more i love about his work than anyone else's, including akira toriyama and leiji matsumoto...
-
Every day I go on a random world in Runescape and talk about one piece in Varrok square. Ever time there are about 50 people listening.
-
50's not that bad
20/20
-
well…i have been spreading One Piece and so far its going well...i will like everyone to spread One Piece through internet by going other forums that you know.....hopefully we draw more people to the show.
-

Well, as some have said before, any of the Strawhats now versus the East Blue pirates would be utter slaughter; sure, ressurecting Crocodile and Eneru for future fights might be interesting, but what people are angry about are characters like Pell, whom gave an extremely poetic and believable sacrifice, and yet survived. Of all characters, Pell's survival IS understandable, but to paraphrase Ivotas, Oda took an active deus ex machina approach to Skypiea, in that even the random nobodies survived Eneru's lightning. This is what makes people angry, because it undermines all the "evil" of the villans.

What the…? Not detailled? Who says that? Oda is a Jump artist, which means he cranks out OP chapters per week, and yet his art is still more detailled and readible (as in, it's easier to tell what is happening) than his contemporaries' work. The colour spreads alone serve to illustrate how frequently he can put detail into something.
Sure, there's a couple errors that are overlooked, but those are relatively minor, ESPECIALLY in comparison to the monthly long serializations of manga like Shonen Gangen. Heck, FMA's manga is really choppy, with multiple errors on the same page…and that's serialized monthly. It's longer, to be sure, but making a longer chapter is always easier than forcible condensing a huge story into nineteen pages.
The only really consistently well drawn manga is Berserk, and that's a monthly serialization. With good reason! Yeah, Oda's no Miura, but for his style, he's still pretty darn good.

Uh, there were some people that died. Sure, he didn't get anyone with Advent of Thunder, but there was a reason for that.
Recall the guy trying to escape the island? ZAP. BOOM. Dead.
The guy with Konis' dad? Most likely dead as well, I'd say.Just because it wasn't an all-out massacre doesn't take away from his evilness. It just shows that evil failed which I find to be a good thing.

Yeah, I don't remember who said it, it must've been online or I overheard it somewhere at school. I've never see the Berserk manga, I'm curious to read it, since I've seen some of the series and liked it. is it true that there is a whole other season of the anime that they haven't brought over to the US?
but yeah, I agree that oda does put a lot into his work whether people see it or not. its crazy how fast he has to do them, i mean, look at toriyama. he's been drawing manga for years now, i noticed that the dbz manga looks pretty simple sometimes, but that doesn't take away from it at all. but still, i wonder how even he could get full chapters done in mearly a week. those Jump artists are crazy XD
-
It does not matter. It's a pointless idea.
First off if new american fans don't like it, even based on the dub chances are they will just leave it at that, never looking into OP again.
If they do enjoy it, then chances are they will try and get more into it, and EVENTUALLY they will discover that the dub they have been watching it sheer crap and they will look into the sub or manga.
The thing is….not everyone likes One Piece. Even the sub, it's not the GREATEST thing EVER, and just like with everything else, there are those who like it and those who don't. Just telling everyone to watch the sub doesn't mean EVERYONE will love it.
-
I think it's a matter of finding what part of OP resonates with your audience.
I've always been fascinated by the mad dictator type, so obviously I grabbed onto Arlong and didn't let go.
A friend I know, he denigrated OP from what he saw in the dub, so I said to him (he being a big weapon buff), "There's a bloke with a metal jaw and an axe for an arm– and he orders his men to shoot themselves in the head!". I don't know wether it took.

Uh, Arlong killed a minor character. Compared to Crocodile, who killed the Piggy Pirates, and Eneru, who basically just killed a bunch of nobodies, and Eneru/Croc look utterly incompetent. We all know that's not the case, and both archvillans are much more sinister than Arlong in every respect. As I said before, Oda took an active deus ex machina approach to his archvillans, such that no major or minor character dies outside of a flashback.

Nope, there's only one season of Berserk Anime, and I warn ye, the series is extremely gory, sexual, and filled with strong language. The only series with more blood would be Elfen Lied.

ah, ok thanks for clearin' that up. don't worry, i'm sorta used to that stuff. because of my dad, i was partially raised on watching R-rated movies and such… and i'm a big Tarantino fan XD but yeah, I really want to check out the Berserk manga. its not translated, is it? or do you know where i can find it online?

Uh, I said absolutely nothing about Arlong. I was referring to the guy Nami say trying to escape Enel's island getting blown up by the lightning.

Off topic:
Well, I don't know where you can find it online, but it has been translated and serialized through Dark Horse comics and can be found at any Borders, Barnes&Noble, etc.
Very cool and definetly one of my favorites. (Content wise, I think its alot worse [heavier violence/sex scenes] than the anime, just another word of warning)

ok, thanks for the info X3

I'm divided on the issue. I do tell everyone I know about OP, but the great thing about the OP fandom is that there aren't many dicks (at least not in the LJ communities and forums I visit). I like the lack of narutard-like anime fans (luffy-tards?)
At the same time I wish OP were popular with anime fans, because where I live, the anime stores mainly stock merchandise for popular shows (i.e. freaking NARUTO). It makes me sad, because I know there must be tons and tons of One Piece stuff in Japan. Also, it would be nice to have a local community, so I have people to contact for OP-related fun.
I will continue to spread the One Piece disease though.
-
I totally agree w/ loulou. i was sorta sad when i saw a crapload of naruto merchandise at hot topic and there was only that one piece t shirt… that was it. not even buttons. but still, i'm glad nobody here is a "luffy-tard"
-
Yes, I have been spreading OP sub info on various sites… ^^
-
It's catching on the CAA forums. Slowly, but it's getting there (I've given the manga K-F links to numerous people, and some of them actually use it :D ).
-
Yes, I have been spreading OP sub info on various sites… ^^
Me? I've been spreading subs to my freinds who watch the dub. I just showed them Cinder's site and they now know the truth…

Great to hear! Im going to start on forums next! Thanks for spreading One Piece!

Jeez, you're a moron. Can you not add two and two together? I brought up Arlong as an illustration of a character that actually killed someone majorly important, however minor, rather than some random Skypiea Guard who got fried by Eneru. There's no way you are going to tell me that Royal Guard fool is more important than Bellemere.

Buy all translated manga up to Volume 12 from Dark Horse Comics. The rest can be found here.

Idea.
Stick subbed One Piece DVDs in every copy of insert latest hit movie here.
It'd work << >>
-
Well…..for some reason it feel like it is spreading to a lot of people so far....i mean a lot of one piece came to me from other places...i was surprised!!! Great Job!=)

The first comment aside, my apologize.
I was a bit caught in confusion as to why you were speaking of Arlong, and didn't think of that.I was simply pointing out that Enel did indeed quite a few, even they weren't important, like Bellmelle. :p

This post is deleted!

My apologies as well. There's a great deal of pent up rage inside my psyche, as I have been waiting for quite a while for Arlongpark.com's Wiki, and the delay has made me…tense. The website I went to when I was thirteen, Bulbagarden, has already established a fine Pokemon Wiki in just a couple weeks after it was launched; why AP has not done this is quite troubling.

Attention all One Piece fans. I believe we should spread One Piece to everybody. People need to realize that this show is great. Also the manga. Ever since 4kids dub the show, people have the wrong idea about the show. So, we need to spread that One Piece is great. I was once a victim that thought One Piece is stupid. Then Im beginning to realize that when i found out that the show is great, i thought they're stupid. Then, my cousin show me the show and i was shocked. Right now, Im in ep 245 and it gets really good. I love this show as much as Naruto. I believe they are equal, if not better. Two great anime for me to watch. Please, people need to realize how great it is and how 4kids destroyed the show. Spread through anime forums or general and show them One Piece. Hopefully, people will realize and like the show like we do. Also, the manga must be told as well. Please people. We need them to like One Piece like we do. I mean Naruto got popularity by people. So now i want One Piece the same thing as Naruto. So Lets support for One Piece!!!
-
uhhh…If you read this forum at all, you would realize that what you have said has been stated before in various threads. (Although many members care little for Naruto...)
But I'm glad you were made aware of the truth.
-
I could have sworn I've seen this exact same post before…
-
Same here! Wasn't there a thread called "we should spread One Piece"?
-
I have a few friends who only like the Japanese version and wanna KILL the English dub. I'm warning toehr ppl right now who happens to like One Piece to download the Japanese episodes/movies/specials, read the manga, or do both but NEVER NEVER EVER flick on American TV and watch One Piece! the horrid bastards [4Kids] that ruined it.
EDIT: Yeah there was a thread like this….
-
(And you can go find it…)
