I think everyone is underestimating Coco a little since it's been so long that we saw him longer then 2 chapters.
Toriko
-
-
Coco needs to comeback in the next arc.
-
I don't care much for ranking fighting strenght, but In terms how good characters they are, my ranking of the 4 kings is:
#1: Sunny. Has the most fun personality, the most unique design, and a kickass fighting style. All around my favourite Protagonist of the series.
#2: Zebra. Awesome abilities, pretty enjoyable if a bit generic personality. Could use a bit more work designwise; Aside from the jaw-wound he's pretty much a beefier Toriko.
#3: Coco. Pretty bland, both in terms of design and personality, but I friggin love his ability. Shimabukuru went nuts with biology and chemistry here, which I really dig.
#4: Toriko. Even if he's altogether a likeable character, he's just a bit too generic for me to really love. He likes food, is reckless, and loves his friends. Not that original. His design is the least remarkable of the Kings, and his fighting style is just kicking, punching, punching in succesion, and the extremely common Air Slicing. Shimabukoro should develop his Smell powers and give him a few quirks.Anyway, I really hope that the 4 kings will just share Komatsu (him probably being the sense of Taste and all) and head into the GW as a group. Toriko really needs larger casts for its arcs to be their best - see Regal Island and Ice Hell arcs.
-
I'd like to see the yakuza guy and the other guy from the Ice Hell arc again.
-
Takimaru and Match were both really likable characters. I would love to see them again in the Gourmet World. Though, I don't know what business the Gourmet Yakuza or the Gourmet Knights would have there.

I honestly didn't care for Takamaru, but I will admit his fight was good. Match was also cool.
-
Toriko has been giving me the impression it's being like HXH in the way it has main characters that don't show up too often. I really like that, rather than have them around and not doing anything. I think based on what Ichiryuu was saying though, is they'll all meet up when they all go to the Gourmet World. Also maybe while they're training for it when Toriko goes after the rest of Ichiryuu's list.

Precious!!
Almost as beautiful as Kaipirinha!

Too bad Komatsu didn't bring a storage container. He could have saved some of the mellow cola, bottled it, and sold it for a lot of money.
I think I'm starting to not be annoyed by Komatsu.
-
! Captain Falcon? in MY Toriko? hell yes. and Mansam back as well. This can only become awesome.
-
hahahaha
That was the one I made a while ago.
-
I just finished translating the chapter. We got an early raw source this week. You can read it here if you wanna know what happens without looking at the pictures:
http://mangahelpers.com/t/kewl0210/releases/29763Here's a summary of what happens, and a lot happens
! Komatsu's last condition to Zebura was that he needed to see his Full Course before forming a combo with him, to see which he prefered as a chef. Zebura doesn't have a Full Course at all and never felt like making one until now. So now his Full Course consists only of the Mellow Cola. Komatsu said he can't decide based only on that, and will have to wait until both of them have completed their Full Courses, but he has confidence Toriko's menu won't lose to anyone, and that's the reason he made the deal.
They go back, meet the people in the desert town, Komatsu thinks studying the book will lead to developments for the growth of the Gourmet Age. Then they head to Hotel Gourmet for a celebratory party. Chief Mansam along with the Bureau of Defense Chief Ray and some third guy show up, saying they want to make a trade for the Birdman, which they're not cooking because it didn't seem edible. -
hahahaha
That was the one I made a while ago.
Hum.. Didn't you make the one who said "It's says [A Bomb]"?
-
great job as always kewl.
Hum.. Didn't you make the one who said "It's says [A Bomb]"?
Yeah, APF perfect day. A homage to the next nakama thread.
-
! Okey, so it looks like Komatsu got out of this deal for now. But it's interesting that they didn't eat the birdman. Could it still be alive?
! Also, I hope they go for the lava-dish next!–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, I just watched episode 7 of the anime, and it was really awesome as well! Nothing was censored in this episode, the GT Robot did impale right through Mansom, but of course no blood, yet there actually was a hole that was seen going right through him. The laser through his neck was shown as well, along with the mother Battle Wolf getting shot. Tina is everywhere in this episode. She goes into the Gourmet Coliseum to film Terry being born, and then has to be protected by Toriko when the Demon Devil Python bursts in. Rin also make a few appearances too.
Aside from the story, the episode was also animated very well, and the music played with each scene complimented it even more.

We got chapter 142 done:
http://hiwamatanoboru.com/2011/05/25/toriko-142-gintama-330-release/
We got raws earlier this week, hopefully it'll keep up. -
Chapter 142 is up, Thanks Kewl Link Edit very good chapter today, I like how Komatsu added the condition to see Zebras full course before he would join him as a partner.
-
Nice resolution in the end. I wonder if Zebra is going to stick around though. He really seems to be a vital part in keeping Komatsu alive, especially in regards to the more dangerous environments.
Two of my favorite Zebra scenes were when he gets embarrassed by Toriko for revealing he's a fan of Komatsu's cooking and when he's diving for the food when the trio were making a pit stop back home.
Can't wait to see what roles Ray and Captain Falcon are going to play.
-
Good chapter!!! Did we ever see Defense Bureau Ray anywhere before?
-
Already out? Sweet. Off to read….wait, Beelzebub also! Freakin sweet!
EDIT: just finished it. As to be expected it was great. Toriko's pace is pretty crazy.
-
More guys are introduced! What a surprise!
-
At least Ray is a little fem.
-
Captain Falcon…no comment.
Though somehow I do like Zebra's comment about not really wanting to put together a Full Course and Komatsu's promise. Some people just want to eat whatever the heck they want, but with the Full Course aspect sort of being a defining characteristic behind all the characters of this series, it does potentially could lead to some interesting aspect.
-
Zebra's a tsundere. What a fine development. But I welcome new IGO affairs a little bit more.
-
Great chapter. Zebra's starting to become one of my favorite characters in this manga.
Anyone else notice that Zebra's ripped cheek was stitched up when they were at Hotel Gourmet? -
He's asked to do that to scare less people away.
-
Liked how Komatsu got out of the conditions. Pretty crafty I say. I hope Zebra will accompany them to some more orders - he sure adds a lot. They can even wrap it up as him wanting to see if the foods they are looking for are up for his course. And getting ready for Gourmet World, but that's unlikely - he must think he's ready enough without weather preparations, not even on words, but really believing so.
I wonder if we will get told some secrets of that birdman. At least it's age and how it hibernated for so long. -
Maybe there's even a hint to God in that book, although i think it's a little to early for that.
It was good to see Mansam back, glad to see he doesn't intend on leaving some older characters in the cold.
-
I really liked Mansam. Fry Panchi ftw.
and I really really hope that this Captain Falcon guy has a flaming punch, or thunder knee.
-
I wonder what they'll do with the birdman's corpse. Examine it definetly, and then hopefully they'll actually tell us the real name of these creatures. I also hope Zebra stays with Toriko for their next quest, since he doesn't have anywhere to go.
-
I've just seen the 7th episode of the Toriko anime.. I'm really starting to lose hope in this series… they don't entirely deviate from the manga.. but they kinda do in the wrong places!!! and it annoy me to no end!!! I kinda feel like they are doing mansam's character justice.. in the manga although mansam got beat up,to me it looked like shimabukuro alluded to him being stronger when he was about to use his intimidation on the gt robo.. that is before he noticed that toriko was getting angry.... in the manga we saw mansam being introduced by doing press ups whilst ritchie (his huge pet animal was) on his back.. when he met with toriko and komatsu he used his frying punch to scare the muscule crab... toei have everything in reverse
-
I like the anime. I know that some scenes are edited out and censored as well, but you have to see it from a anime-only watchers perspective (which I am not [oviously]). I will admit though that it does get annoying and tedious with certain scenes.

believe me! if you saw the anime from a manga readers perspective you wouldn't like this anime as much! the manga is far superior, If they had followed the manga to the letter I wouldn't have any complaints!
check out the Toriko OVA.. Its a carbon copy of the first episode except it follows the manga more closely… There is a huge difference!!! Toriko as a character is awesome and badass on a whole other level.. The OVA is darker.. its just how I imagined the Toriko anime to be

So the new chapter's come out, I wonder how that cliff hanger's gonna pan out.

It definitely fits his character.
He does whatever he wants and shits on sozial behaviour.
Having a full course menu seems to be aform of showing "who you are"..something with which you gain honour and stuff.(but i guess it`s just for food-hunters and higher persons..not for civil no names)
Iam wondering if some juyt made up their full course to let it look more awesome(i mean without them ever tasting some of the incridents). -
Haha, I got a good laugh out of this:
"Komatsu! How could you make a deal with another man behind my back!? You're my partner, aren't you?"
"Weeell for now I am, but I'm gonna have you two big strong men compete, and then I'll partner with the better one"
WARNING WARNING CERTAIN OVERTONES OVERFLOWINGAnyway, nice little wrap up to the arc, I'm very glad to see Mansam again. I find it creepy that Zebra wanted to eat the birdman though; They're so intelligent that it's pretty fucked up. Thankfully it was Zebra and not Torikos idea, but I'd still like to see a point made of it other than "it didn't look edible"

The anime is very picky on what they want to give us, and their whole adding in of filler scenes and deletion of other canon scenes does piss me off, but it's still enteraining for me. I do read the manga, and I know what Toei has decided to do to for these episodes. The OVA was good when it came out and I first saw it, and I did hope that when an anime was to be broadcasted that it would be like the OVA. But it looks like this is what we're stuck with.
And for those who would like to know, the new episode is now subbed and out.
