@ForteAnly:
The fanservice too much. I'm sorry that's an exaggeration. There are other series that possess nothing but fanservice. FT has a few scenes here in there but none that make the series a fanservice series.
No it is most assuredly not. Too much fanservice is too much. Period. The existence of even more fanservice in other manga doesn't make the level of fanservice in FT any more tasteful or my statement any more of an exaggeration.
It's like saying fried chicken isn't fattening because deep fried bacon is fattier. You're still gonna get obese if you eat too much of it.
Analogy aside, my problem the level of fanservice in FT was it got to the point where it was distracting and detracted from the plot instead of enhancing it. In fact, it almost became a crutch for the series, which is a shame because FT had a lot more potential before it kept relying on sexy so much.
In short: No, I don't want to see another shot of Erza from between her legs, or two girls bathing in the same tub… I want to see the story adequately address the gaping plotholes that contradict what was set up earlier!
Honestly, I personally think FT and OP should not be compared. I think both series have qualities that differentiate themselves but OP fans think everything that is included in OP is exclusive to OP. If another series shares any similar traits it's considered a rip off. I also think it's funny how people say that OP is better than FT.
Others may have compared FT and OP and accused one of being rip offs of the other, but I certainly have never done so, and I would pertinently request that you sort out your arguments as to who said what, and not lump someone else's words with mine.
Another fun fact, I actually didn't like OP at first, but I grew to love it because it kept on improving chapter after chapter (well other than the Davy Back Arc) until it crossed the threshold of "readable manga" to "really unique manga unlike anything else that I've read".
Also, I thought FT more promising than OP at the beginning stages, but arc after arc of disappointments later, I've learned to just keep FT at an arm's distance to avoid disappointment. Getting emotionally invested in a character isn't worth it when the mangaka has a track record of miffing it and shafting them :( .
Well yeah you have been reading OP for years and became accustomed to the series and you have it in such a high regard that nothing can compare to it. That's what I think anyways.
You think wrong then. I would advise not making such ill-informed and inaccurate speculations with regards to someone you do not know. You'll only end up worse off in the argument when things prove otherwise.
ONE: I judge series based on their own merit. Personally I think FT has its own unique style and a great setup. But it has this irritating habit of setting up potentially awesome scenarios and storylines and failing to follow through. (Mystogan's arc, Erza's arc, etc). ARGH So much potential and so wasted!!
TWO: In actuality I'm a newish reader to OP, only having started around a couple years ago and I started reading FT about a year after I started reading OP, having been introduced to FT via the comparison of the art style, ironically.
Even more ironically, if it hadn't been for OP, I probably would have never read FT because of the art style. Let's say OP had attuned me to the exaggerated non-generic manga style by then.
But I will be frank about that fact that I do think OP is of a higher quality compared to FT. OP consistently manages to surprise and entertain me, with only a few rare facepalm moments. FT tends to make me interested at the certain points, only to disappoint the next chapter, then it does a 180 and something else interests me again.
