@ Battle Franky: Hope you don´t mind me bugging you with questions but could you please tell us how many different games in total there are in the game?
No idea of the final count, I've played around 20 so far. Though, I've heard it's 40 mini-games in total, dunno if that's true or not.
Also you say that the game is fairly text heavy. Could you please specify the "fairly". I mean would a person like me that can´t read a bit japanese have problems to get the hang of the games or not?
I wouldn't think so. It's text heavy, but I doubt the language barrier will majorly hinder or stop you from progressing in the game. Basically a large majority of the text is in the explanation of the rules of each the mini-game. So like I said, you'll either pick up the gist of the game quickly from just watching or you may have to do through trial and error, until you understand the rules fully.
Sorry for the annoying questions but after the bad experience I´ve had with Grand Battle I´m really considering to mod my PS2 to play the japanese version of Pirates Carnival. But if I wouldn´t understand a thing then it would be a waste of time and money IMO.
I probably know as much Japanese as you do & I haven't had much issues understanding the game so far. So I think you'd be fine with Pirates Carnival.
so battle franky is it fun..
Not really my type of game. But yeh, I'm enjoying it so far.
-
Thanks for the answers Battle Franky. That was exactly what I wanted to hear. 20 games is actually more then I expected but 40 is just wow!!! And if the text really just is there to explain what you have to do then I´d have no problems with it. I was just affraid that there might be some sort of mini-quiz in it, where you have to pick the correct answer. Then I would just have to gamble you know. XD
Well anyways now that this is cleared up, please don´t mind me asking two more questions:
1. Is there more chibi artwork besides these we already know?
2. Where do I get the game from? I´ve actually never imported a game.
-
Is there an intro for the game? Also, if you have it for PS2, is it a CD or DVD game? I did some torrent searches, and it seems there's only CD versions. If that's the case, I'm just going to get it for Gamecube
-
I usually import my games from play asia ivotas.
-
Yes, there's an animated intro, which is quite similar to Round the Land's intro, but with Kokoro no Chizu instead of Bon Voyage.
"Also, if you have it for PS2, is it a CD or DVD game? I did some torrent searches, and it seems there's only CD versions"
Well, the .ISO of the copy I burnt was like 3 gig. So yeh, it's a DVD version.
-
Off topic question: if i downloaded a game from irc or torrent then transfered to a cd could my ps2 play that game or not. or would my computer need a dvd burner
On topic:
This seems like a very fun game. Tho is cp9/ franky and paulie in it. I'm guessing theyd be secert characters
-
There's only a small selection of PS2 titles that can be burnt to a CD-ROM, most of which are first gen PS2 titles. So yeh, you'd need a DVD burner for the most part.
Tho is cp9/ franky and paulie in it. I'm guessing theyd be secert characters
It appears so, haven't got that far yet. They all appear on the title screen and in the intro. (Chibi Lucci in his Leopard form… KAWAII ^__^)
-
The version I downloaded was a CD and had no intro. Damn, gotta find the DVD version
-
I almost want to try it, but I don't have a modded PS2. That, and I'm not into Mario Party-esque games…
Can you play as only the Strawhats or more characters?
-
I got Pirates Carnival on Friday. Holy. Smokes. I love this game with a PASSION. Here's the general gist:
When you play a board game, there are a bunch of tiles, and they all start facedown. On your turn, you get to flip one of those tiles (you can only flip tiles adjacent to the outermost tile). Depending on who's on the tile something happens. Here's what can happen:
- If you get one of certain "extras" (ex. Johnny, Yosaku, Gedatsu, Iceberg) a list of 3 minigames pops up. Pick one and everyone plays. Whoever wins gets the tile.
- If you get other extras (mostly helpful people like Karoo, Gaimon, and Kaya) then you get the panel for free and you get 500 beri.
- If you get a marine, (ex. Fullbody, Smoker, Morgan) you get the panel but lose 500 beri.
- If you get a special person (Ace, Aokiji, Shanks, Mihawk, or Vivi) something special happens (Vivi - you get to go twice, Mihawk - flip any panel facedown, etc.)
- If you get a boss character (ex. Buggy, Crocodile, Lucci, Franky) you do tht character's boss minigame. The person that flipped over the boss panel plays as the boss, and it's kind of like a Mario Party 3v1 game, except only one person can win. Backstabbing EVERYWHERE. When you win a boss game, you not only get that panel but also the boss's other panel somewhere in the stage.
- Finally, if you get anyone from Foxy's crew you get to steal a panel from someone else. Select the one you want, and do one of the minigames Battle Franky mentioned depending on who you steal from. Whoever wins the game gets the panel.
The winner of the game is whoever has the most berries and panel points combined. Each panel is worth a different number of points, from 500 for Karoo to 2500 for Lucci. If there is a solid row of faceup panels that aren't yours and you place one of your panels on either side, the entire row is yours. Random events spice the game up so the best person doesn't always win, and there are snippets of voice acting and drawn versions of the characters having conversations.
You start out with one level - East Blue. After you beat that, you unlock another. And another. Until you have 5. And that's all I have now - maybe there's more.
The boss minigames are insanely fun, and the regular ones are from such obscure moments in the series that it's funny. And the best part of all? I don't speak or read a word of Japanese and I figured this game out in maybe an hour. This game is worth every penny and then some.
I'll be back later with more, but for now I'm off to test this game for the first time with 4 people.

-
That torrent link didn't work, but I found another
-
Just finished burning this, and I like it already from the intro.
Hope this isn't a clunker like FFOP.
-
According to Gamefaqs, it's coming out on Gamecube, which is great. I can import it.
-
@Battle:
Heh, the Blackbeard cherry pie eating contest & the Wapol House game look fun!!!
Man I have to get this. But isn't it hard to play since all the text's in Japanese?
-
nguyen: Believe it or not, no. It's very intuitive and easy to figure out, especially if you've read through the whole series because you know what's supposed to happen ion these scenes anyway. Before each minigame there's a video, too, showing computers doing it the way it's supposed to be done.
-
Are boss games the only time you get to use non-strawhats?
What's Franky's game like?

This really sounds very comforting. I already ordered the game. Well I just need to make my PS2 able to play it now. :glare:
-
@Cap'n:
Are boss games the only time you get to use non-strawhats?
Yeh, pretty much. Basically if you pick a boss card, your character will become that boss in the mini-game & if you win with that Boss, you win that tile/card.
What's Franky's game like?
It's pretty disappointing really. Treasure & trash falls from the top of the Franky House, you have to collect the 3 or 4 of pieces of treasure within the time limit, while Franky will either use 'weapons left' to hit you or 'strong right' to grab you and put you in a cannon.
-
@Cap'n:
I almost want to try it, but I don't have a modded PS2.
S'also for GCN. You got a freeloader, right?
-
Yeah, but I don't want to import it.
-
Personally, Battle Franky, I like Franky's game. Of course, I've never played as anyone but Franky. Also, you forgot to mention that if you grab a soda, he can use Coup de Vent. That whole game is amazing for the one reason that when Franky wins, he spazzes out and then yells "Super!"
-
Stop it! Do you know how hard it is for me to listen to how great the game is while I´m still waiting for it to arrive? XD
How about doing us who don´t have the game yet a favor and show some screen shots of the intro? hint; hint -

It's a very good game(I like smoker's game and Buggy's game)
but anyone knows how to play Arlong's game? -
Just aim your darts at the yellow 8 area & you'll win everytime. Arlong's totally useless at his own game & so are the other CPUs. XD
-
no,I won't stop
It's a very good gameYeah, yeah, preach on. I´ve already ordered the game and it already has been sent away. Now I just need to mod my PS2 before it comes. YA-HA-HA!!
-
GOD,is this game confusing.
I'm still stuck at trying to figure out a few minigames. -
Can anyone translate some of the in game menus? I was able to save my game, but not exactly sure which thing I selected.
-
Yes, there's an animated intro, which is quite similar to Round the Land's intro, but with Kokoro no Chizu instead of Bon Voyage.
Wow! Are you serious?! Is it possible for you to upload a video clip. I won't push you into making it, but if you can, please try.
-
Someone should upload the intro. If I knew how, I may be able to do it
-
Can anyone name all the 'Captain Games'? I'm missing like four at the moment, but I can't be arsed playing those huge W7 or GL boards just to get them.
I'm pretty sure I'm missing Enel's game & Lucci's game, can't think of the other two?!
-
What's Lucci's game like? Rape people with leopard form?
-
No sure really. I think he chases you down a burning hallway trying to take you out with different shiki moves.
-
Well looking for the screen shot on there site it looks like you have to escape from the burning galley la buliding while hes attacking you or something
-
The chibi in-disguise!Blueno is the cutest thing ever. XD
-
Hehe, sounds fun. Too bad I don't have any game systems. Is there really a pie-eating contest? How the heck do you win that? XD
-
What actually interests me more in that context is whether or not there will be a audio file from the original voice actor giving us the brilliant ZEHAHAHA!! laugh portrayal in that minigame.
I so much love the anime´s portrayal of that laugh. It´s beyond awesome!
-
Can someone explain Luffy's game?
-
Hehe, sounds fun. Too bad I don't have any game systems. Is there really a pie-eating contest? How the heck do you win that? XD
yes, it has:laugh:
how to play
just eat pie(this game has a bomb, don't eat it.) and eat apple(don't eat poison apple but I don't know how to tell the difference between normal apple and poison apple. ) if you eat bomb or apple your health will decrease and it will waste your time too(a lot!) if you eat eat pie more than others(include blackbeard) you win=)What actually interests me more in that context is whether or not there will be a audio file from the original voice actor giving us the brilliant ZEHAHAHA!! laugh portrayal in that minigame.
I so much love the anime´s portrayal of that laugh. It´s beyond awesome!
if you mean arlong's laugh yeah it has(other characters also have voice too.
-
Nah, that's Blackbeard's laugh.
-
Nah, that's Blackbeard's laugh.
oh!,sorry about my mistake well if it's Blackbeard's laugh then I'm not sure that it has or not(I didn't notice it- -")
-
oh!,sorry about my mistake well if it's Blackbeard's laugh then I'm not sure that it has or not(I didn't notice it- -")
What you misunderstood Blackbeards ZEHAHAHAHA for Arlongs SHAHAHAHAHA? O.o
There´s only one way how you can undo that wrong; go back, play the pie eating contest again and tell me if there´s a ZEHAHAHAHA sound file there or not!
-
sorry man,I have a summative test so I can't play it this week.=(
-
Ivotas: Yes, the Zehahaha is indeed in it. Ironically, Blackbeard (who is always referred to as "Teach" in this game) has more dialogue in this game than he did so far in all the series. When Blackbeard wins his game (with a cameo by Dr. Q!) he says something impressive and then laughs maniacally. In fact, if someone has a special laugh, it's done - every where from Enel's "Yahaha!" to Buggy's "Kill a dog with one cackle" laugh. Franky's laugh is replaced by him doing the rolling arms followed by a pose and him saying "SUPER!".
Whew. Finally, when you play a game in a board game and then beat that board game you unlock it in VS mode. Play it there, and then a list of sound files for that character will be unlocked in the "Collection" menu - including just the laugh (most of the time). I literally spent 15 straight minutes listening to Franky go "Hmnnnnnnnnnn… SUPER!"
Edit: By the way, Battle Franky, if you beat a board game and sit through the credits, bosses appear on the left side of the screen. Excluding Foxy, those guys are the ones that have games, so I'd check that. If I had to guess, I'd say you're probably missing Kaku and Kalifa (who share one game), Paulie, Satori, or Wiper. Maybe Mr. 4? I'm just listing some of the ones I had a hard time getting.
-
Wow, wow wow!!! That´s a lot of awesome info there COWMAKAZE. First of all, Blackbeards ZEHAHAHAHA!! is it it. AWESOME!
Then you say almost every character has his laugh there, of course this means Crocodile´s Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah!! is also in it. Even more AWESOME!!
And then you tell me Franky does a "Super" in it. This is SUPER AWESOME!!!
And if that is not enought then you tell me that you can unlock those soundfiles??? WET MY PANTS AWESOME!!!!
You can´t imagine how much that post made my day. Can´t wait until my copy finally arrives. I was expecting it for today but it didn´t come. Damn what a torture. My PS2 is already moded and waiting for the first import game to be played on it. Gimme my Pirates Carnival fix quick!! :steve:
PS: That Teach thing is ok btw. That´s his name after all. Blackbeard is to Teach what Straw Hat is to Luffy.
-
Ivotas is it hard modding your ps2. I want one for xmas and considering geting fighting for one pice (i want to play as franky dammit!) for my bday which is next month. Tho i do want this game for xmas. Also i need to know how to save….
-
It depends on how you do it. I didn´t do it myself but gave it to a local store that does the modding business. And carrying my PS2 to that store is not really something I consider difficult.
However if you mod it yourself then I´m sure that it can turn out difficult and personally I wouldn´t suggest you to do that. Better pay a little bit more for it and let others to the work. You get skilled personel to do that stuff and you even a a guarantee at the end.
Hope that was somehow helpful. <_<
Edit: HOLY SHIT!!! The game arrived today! I can´t thank you enough for the info with Play-Asia.com warp. It was so uncomplicated to get the deal done with them.
The game itself rules, though there´s some stuff I need to figure out first. Right now it´s too much input all at once so before I drop by with annoying questions I´ll try to figure out stuff myself first. Boy is that game fun to play. And just imagine if I call all my friends for a multi-player session. :steve:
Edit II: If someone could tell me how to get the video´s running on WindowsMediaPlayer then I could take some screencaps of yet unseen chibis as Bon Kurei, Bellamy, Paulie and…Franky and Leopard Lucci!!!
-
Ivotas, I have no problem with the Teach thing. I just see his picture, wet myself, then try to read his name and fail miserably. I only got it after I finally read the "D" - I wasn't expecting his real name.
Anyway, have fun. The best captain games by far are Wapol, Franky, and Blueno - given you're the boss. Otherwise, give up, it's all over. However, if you play as Lucchi in his game, you're dead. It's impossible to even take out 3 easy computers in the time given, let alone some buddies - it's ridiculous.
Crocodile's laugh is in it and going strong, and the face accompanied with it is amazing.
Finally, probably the coolest thing about this game: There's a minigame called "Find Pandaman". WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
