Anyone have a clue where that is ?
Rock the Casbah: Arab-World Revolutions
-
-
It's an awkward romanisation. they mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Agheila
-
Well, you can forget about it since, according to Aljazeera and Alarabiya, the revolutionaries have moved passed Uqayla and reached Ras Lanuf and captured 40 mercenaries.
The Syrian government has confirmed to Al Jazeera that the country's emergency law is to be lifted.
-Revolutionaries are now in Bin Jawad, and Gaddafi's forces are retreating quickly.
-Sources to Aljazeera: a huge crowd of pro-Gaddafi supporters are heading toward Bin Jawad from Sirte. (?)
-Eyewitnesses say pro-Gaddafi forces have resumed shelling Misurata.
-Libyan revolutionaries have said they plan to start exporting oil from fields in their territory in less than a week.
-Reuters: The Syrian president deploys the army to the northwest port of Latakia.
==
-Air strikes on the town of Sirt, and Gaddafi's forces maybe retreating to Tripoli from Sirte. Also, loud explosions have been reported in Tripoli.
-
-Nine powerful explosions have been heard in Sirte.
-Al Arabiya: Gaddafi spokesman: Eman Al Obaidi (Libyan woman who was arrested in Tripoli hotel) has been released.
-Gaddafi forces have bombarded Az Zintan with rockets.
-Revolutionaries were advancing towards an area called the Red Valley, but having found it to be full of mines, they retreated and will attempt to clean the area.
-Aljazeera showed live pictures of fighting at Nofilia, on the road to Sirte, an hour ago.
-Now revolutionaries are advancing towards the Red Valley. Gaddafi's forces are expected to be positioned (30Km) from the entrance to Sirte.
-
Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard of the Canadian Forces Air Command is named to lead enforcement of the Libya no fly zone.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Bouchard
Also some disputed claims about the revolutionaries capturing Sirte.
-
-Al Arabiya: Gaddafi spokesman: Eman Al Obaidi (Libyan woman who was arrested in Tripoli hotel) has been released.
-.
Lol. Under Gaddafi's government the prison is the hospital.
:getlost:. I hope she copes well with everything that comes after such experience.
So was the huge crowd of supporters heading to Bin Jawad leaving because Sirte was going to be bombed?
EDIT: Nevermind I missed the "30km" away from the entrance.
asmo: LOL at peaceful convoy.
Syrian Deputy President says that President Bashar will announce important decisions in the next two days
"Yes the country needs reform I will step down! In January!"
-
the huge crowd of supporters heading to Bin Jawad
About that. Libyan official said 'the armed militia' (revos) attacked the peaceful convoy they sent. Of course they're the only one talking about a convoy of any sort, let alone peaceful.
Also there was a huge convoy of 20 military vehicles , and perhaps some civilians, leaving Sirte and moving towards Tripoli yesterday.
-Al Jazeera: Libyan revolutionaries take control of town of Hrawa, 70km east of Sirte.
-Al Jazeera: Al Manar TV: Syrian Deputy President says that President Bashar will announce important decisions in the next two days.
-Reuters: Witness: Syrian security forces open fire as hundreds of demonstrators chant against emergency laws in southern city of Deraa.
-
lollll, some Libyan official was shown doing some press release thing to the press in Tripoli to tell them not to talk about the raped woman because "this is a conservative society, please don't expose her, respect her privacy" and he kept having to tell some press guy to let him talk by repeatly saying "Nick! Nick! Nick!".
-
What raped woman ?
-
It's me, I'm the raped woman.
-
That's…...pretty tasteless Zeph.
-
So is not following the thread!!!!!!!!!!!!
!! -
I follow it constantly man, but I thought you were refering to something recent.
-
@No:
I follow it constantly man, but I thought you were refering to something recent.
It is recent. Only happened 2 or 3 days ago.
-
I meant more recent.
Thanks for clearing that up.
-
This probably isn't new, but here's some on the ground reports:
[hide]
While retreating, Pro-Ghadaffi forces have been killing prisoners, shooting up cars (disabling transport), and they even smashed up a hospital, wrote graffiti all over its walls and left 'a really bad smell.'
Some neighborhoods have been reporting missing people since the start of the war. Ghadaffi is keeping his promise of exacting retribution by literally going house-to-house. There was this one sad story where a man's son had disappeared while he was guarding the house, and it was obvious that the army had been there. [/hide] -
I'm really happy for Tunisia and Egypt, and hopefully we'll be cheering for Libya and the rest of the Arab countries soon. Tough it's a little expected, I really hope we don't see the same thing in Syria as we are seeing in Libya.
-
-Libyan Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa is currently in Tunisia on a private visit. might be trying to head to Italy.
-Revolutionaries and Gaddaf's forces are exchanging attacks in the area between Bin Jawad and the Red Valley.
-National Transitional Council promises to hold free elections in the post Gaddafi period.
-AFP: Syrian cabinet to resign today, new cabinet should be formed within 24 hours.
-Thousands of Syrians rallied in the capital Damascus to show their support for President Bashar al-Assad. Pro-government protests are also taking place in four other major cities.
-
Interesting read. I can't help but think, however, that this is more an act of self-preservation because he's afraid he might be next in line, rather than an honest attempt to provide insight on Gaddafi's politics.
-
Can't help but feel like he's reading from a text book rather than personal opinion.
-
Just read that the rape victim, Iman al-Obeidi, is being sued by the four men who raped her for defamation of character. That is so far beyond despicable.
-
lol, after refusing their bribe, now they're trying to sue her.
edit: Wait, didn't they accuse her of being mentally disturbed…
there goes the case.
-
Just read that the rape victim, Iman al-Obeidi, is being sued by the four men who raped her for defamation of character. That is so far beyond despicable.
Almost as much as sentencing rape victims to death for adultery.
-
Maybe this means she's still alive?
-

Four? Where are the 11 other animals?
-
…What a fucking joke. All they should get, is a shot on the right foot and their reproducing organs handed back to them in a paper bag. Inhuman jackasses.
-
Maybe this means she's still alive?
Apparently, but from what I was reading seems like the parents were saying that the announcement that she was released was a lie and that the government was trying to bribe/threaten the parents into convincing her to change her story. So she's basically being held hostage.
-
Ughhhh, news is so frustrating….so many people asking questions that no one apparently can answer but I fucking can!!!
DURR WHY WE NOT GO INTO SYRIA AND IRAN IF WE GO INTO LIBYA HUNH???
1. Libya was hundreds times more violent then any of the other places so far. It was an exceptional circumstance. We're comparing some riot police shooting people to literal fighter jets firing missiles into crowds here.
2. We CAN'T take action in Syria, we can't. Period. Syria is an ally of Iran, and we cannot fight Iran, not unless we want to get into a MAJOR conflict. Iran has a strong military, it's a big country, that would be the ultimate disaster. Just because a doctrine allows us to deal with one country, it doesn't magically allow us to do essentially impossible things. You do what you can. Let alone attacking Iran like that moron woman suggested while Wolf Blitzer just caight flies with his goddamn mouth instead of pointing any of this out.
LET ME ON TV

But if you explained all of this like a rational person there wouldn't be anything more to argue about.
-
Ugh, things are getting fusterating over in Libya right now. Once again the rebels are being pushed back. When is Obama going to deploy ground troops to assist them?
-
@joekido:

He won't. The U.S. won't get involved any further than helping to enforce the no-fly zone through means which do not involve putting troops on the ground. Hell, people are complaining that's too much. We may at some point help supply the rebel forces with weapons directly or indirectly.
Here's some news on that but it's mostly dealing with Britain's stance on supplying the rebels.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1371056/David-Cameron-ready-arm-rebels-air-strikes-continue-Gaddafi-goes.html
–--------------------------------------What the hell is this!? I didn't know Gaddafi's son was an intern in the U.S.
As soon as the uprisings started happening he left to help his father "brutally suppress the rebels".
AECOM added in a statement: "The educational internship, which consisted of publicly available information, was aligned with our efforts to improve quality of life, specifically in Libya, where we were advancing public infrastructure such as access to clean water; quality housing; safe and efficient roads and bridges; reliable and affordable energy; and related projects that create jobs and opportunity."
The irony… I think he left his internship a bit too early.
-
Why doesn't the UN deploy ground units? Why are people waiting specifically for the U.S. to act?

My astronomy prof off-handedly commented that the reason we intervened in Libya and not elsewhere (e.g. Yemen) was just because of the oil. eye roll Stick to white dwarfs, dude.
Then again, the guy is also a singularitarian so.

@Rubber:

UN ground troops are virtually worthless on this type of thing.
Or do you mean NATO. That would be significantly escalating the conflict.

The latest is that Gaddafi's forces has reached Al-Uqayla and are pushing towards Brega while the revos. are retreating to Ajdabiyah to regroup and head back to Brega today.
-Reuters citing rebel sources said 18 civilians have been killed in Misurata on Tuesday.
-Bashar Al-Assad had a speech today talking about reforms, which had been suggested since 2006, and how what happened in the past 2 weeks was a conspiracy by 'enemies' who took advantage of people needs, …. and other stuff.
-
-A witness said clashes broke out in front of the mayor's office in Latakia. The witness said the latest unrest broke out within an hour after President Assad's speech. Witnesses say Syrian troops fired during the protest by about 100 people. Can't confirm if they were firing in the air or at the protesters
-Syrian activists said that they are very disappointed with Assad's speech and have called for more demonstrations after Friday prayers.
-The first coalition air strike in two days against Gaddafi's forces was carried out near the eastern city of Ajdabiya.
-Uganda has offered asylum to Gaddafi.
Hey Kuma, how's it going.
-

Assad can inherit Gaddafi's role of "bugfuck dictator who has no idea about what's actually going on."
@asm00200:-Uganda has offered asylum to Gaddafi.
Goddammit Museveni.

According to Tunisia's official news agency, Libya's foreign minister Moussa Koussa had flown aboard an unidentified Swiss carrier from the Tunisian resort of Djerba to London on Wednesday.
Sources say Koussa may have defected, and is believed to be negotiating passage for himself and his family. Koussa may also be negotiating a deal for other senior Libyan officials.
==
Aljazeera: British Government: Libyan Foreign Minister Musa Kusa resigned from his position & has arrived in London.
–
Revolutionaries managed to push Gaddafi's forces beyond the western entrance of Brega.
In Misurata, revos. showed some of the weapons Gaddafi's forces were using against them, which are banned Internationally.
Al Jazeera: Libyan revolutionaries prevent more than 50 shipments of fuel from entering Tripoli via Tunsia.

LOLOLOL Just saw the interview, where the british politician just wouldn't spill the beans.
Now it's official. I so wanna hear a statement of Saif Al Islam and what kind of fantastical story he will come up with to explain this without "losing face"! Hahaha Fantastic!Kinda worried about the Rebels nontheless, Gaddafi's army is using landmines and other bullshit and they are falling back more and more…
-
Saif Al Islam: "Toz fi Kusa!!"
But seriously, I would be surprised if we hear from Saif anything.
-
Saif: "The Real Koussa is right here in this building, that man is an impostor. What ? I-I can't show him to you right now, he went to fetch some mayonnaise and might not be back for a couple of days."
-
Hahaha when it comes to public speeches it's father like son!
But one last outbreak of him cursing everyone and their mother before they snatch him off the mic would make my year.
Aman Aman, Saif you gotta do me this last favour!
He's seriously responsible for some great laughs, I remember this chick during an interview on Sky news asking him in a most serious manner, with the most polite british accent:
"One last question, do you think… your father is deluded?"
His face and the endless stuttering that came after it.
Priceless, I couldn't stop laughing.
He probably would have strangled her if the interview wasn't held on british ground. -

Right the fuck now
-
Shit man I can only find a transcript right now, but it was a woman named Lisa Holland, British woman with balls of steel. I really love this interview since she quite dominated him. Let me search more!
-
i couldn't finish reading. i just couldn't. my mind is numb.

The protest that were cheering for Al Asad in syria, they were civilians who have government jobs (i.e. teacher, accountant, etc.), they were forced to protest, otherwise they'd lose their jobs, and possibly disappear for ever. My prof. is Syrian, her cousins posted things on facebook like "We love Al Asad", obviously they don't, but they're just afraid they'll get in deep trouble, since the internet in syria is controlled by the govt., and they pretty much know everything you do online.
-
Lord.
"Where does it stop?" he said. "Do we go into Africa next? I don't want to sound callous or cold, but this could go on indefinitely around the world."
This coming from a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
-
Anyone who makes remarks that idiotic should be removed from their position.
-
"Who are these rebels?" he said. "We're getting involved in a civil war. We've defined who we're against, but we don't know who we're helping. Is al-Qaida part of this group? Are we assisting … members of al-Qaida to take control?
Dear god.
I supose that shelling hostpitals with rockets and sniper attacks seems a pretty legitimate thing to do, so naturaly anyone who dislikes it must be a terrorist.
Why does ths guy sound just like fucking Gaddafi ? Are we positive they aren't the same person ?
"Our national security wasn't at risk," Mr. Barletta said.
Last time I checked, neither was it during WW 1.
