Yea, I also feel bad I couldn't donate during the show. I did donate $20 to the Red cross, so It's not like I never donated, but I feel bad regardless I couldn't do any more than spread the word about this podcast.
24 Hour Podcast Fundraiser: Anime Fans Give Back to Japan

-
Thank you guys so much for doing this! I am so proud of you guys and only wish that I could have listened to it :(
-
I want to say Congrats to the successful event and Thanks to everyone in the Podcast!! I'm happy I stuck for a while last night though the reception here is very bad. I too hope there's a recorded one so I could listen to it again.
I'm proud of you guys and those who became part of it too!
-
I'm sure you're all sick of hearing this, but I wanted to thank everyone for spreading the message, donating, listening in, anything you did to make this a success. I also want to stress how proud I am of Zach for organizing all of this, and for Steve, Jason, Greg, and everyone else who stayed up for an entire day cycle to make sure this went smooth as eggs! And of course, thanks to all the wonderful guests we had on the show, and to our joint supporters!!
-
The stream only crapped out on my a couple of times, guess I was lucky.
I don't know how you guys were awake by the end of the thing. The parts I watched were great fun. That Wendee Lee prerecorded bit was INSANE.
Congrats on beating the goal!
-
Yea, if you could put Wendee and Barbara 's pre-recorded stuff on the site that'd be great
-
Crispin Freeman at the end reeling in over 3,000 bucks was insane.
-
@Sniper:
I'm sad now…I set my alarm for 7:10 so I could watch the Ninjas vs. Pirates part...and I woke up, but...I thought, "it's just a podcast...and I'm tired''...Now, I regret my decision of going back to sleep...
they actually did it, albeit very briefly.
the conversation started to get heated until they both agreed SHINIGAMIS SUCK, and started ragging on bleach together.i really want an animated .gif of steve dancing with the vanderdeckken hat on now..
-
lol, there was no heat. They got silly, and Zach and crew claimed superiority since they were hosting the event, and then they all ragged on Bleach.
-
i meant the split second where gaara (or was it jiraiya?)shouted jesus was a ninja, and then jason threatened to cut their feed since they were organizing the thing, lol. it was silly, nerdy debating, but right when they seemed to be about to genuinely argue over the topic..everyone was united under the banner of PURE BLEACH HATRED.
i got scared when the debate started because i had been worried how well naruto, bleach, and one piece fans could get along without a divisive argument about which series is better breaking out. although i agree with them wholeheartedly, one piece fans are known for taking swipes at bleach and naruto. jesuotaku let out some audible 'bleach fangirl cringing' when zach mentioned bleach's crappy story.
i'm a little sad that i missed eric vale and sabat's sections, though.
brina palcencia's as well. -
This was an awesome event. I wish I could have heard the whole thing, but the parts I watched were great. I wish I could have donated at the time, but something came up. But I have donated before and will do so again.
Though having Maile Flanagan pwn me in the wee hours of the morning was a highlight.
-
Sabat was one of the guests that ended up not showing. I can't remember who replaced him or whether Vale stayed a bit longer or not.
Maile (Naruto's VA) sticking around with us for so long was a surprise and really fun though.
-
Especially those who wants her to say "I'm gonna be the Pirate King!".
-
Especially those who wants her to say "I'm gonna be the Pirate King!".
Ugh…i hate it when people ask for line requests. I had more fun trying to explain what FLCL was to her.
-
I see that the podcast fundraiser went well. Awesome!
Sucks that I wasn't around for the event though. DAMNIT!! >:(
-
on a personal note, you have WAY TOO MUCH energy, al! xD
it felt like you were around the entire 24 hours and didn't even rest afterwards. -
same thing goes for Demon Rin.
-
I was there the whole time.
And I did crash for about 6 hours after it all and after eating, and watching yesterday's episode. I hadn't eaten anything for a few hours there out of excitement.
RIN IS A QUITTER. She slept some of it.
-
anyone that energetic at 4 in the morning deserves credit.
-
Those guys are probably still sleeping and then are gonna wake up at 4 in the morning. Compared to them, I did a boatload of nothing. Since I was busy with finals, I couldn't join in on anything, and could only cheer, spread the word, and continuously click F5 for that donations page.
Besides, their 4 in the morning's only 1 AM my time.
-
Al wins the internet. I gave in and took a 45 minute nap at about 5:30 AM or so after Maile left and the SSA Podcast did their panel.
The funny thing is I never went to sleep after the event, despite how tired I was. Several hours later, I am finally about ready to go rest, lol.
I'm sure the podcast gang crashed right away. They looked far more tired than I felt, and I was pretty out of it.
And yes, Eric Vale stayed on longer to replace poor Sabat, who was up to 4 AM with his three week old baby. Eric Vale was awesome though, randomly interrupting Greg to get his 4 year old daughter out of bed and then was talking about a show she watches that he hates made by the creators of Teletubies.
-
i had a tough time falling asleep right after it ended, too, despite having been around for almost all of it. i guess your second wind kicks in or something..
-
Hello. Sorry to say I've haven't really got into One Piece up to this point; but, I did hear about your 24 hour show and tried to tune into as much as I could Saturday night and during the day Sunday.
It was great to hear a bunch of my favorite voice actors come on and I am impressed by how much you guys were able to raise. Wish I could spare more than the $25 I threw in; but, every bit helps I guess.
Congratulations to everyone who put this together and thanks to everyone who contributed to such a worthy cause. It was great to see fans of all stripes come together to help and give back to a country we all love and has provided us with so much entertainment over the years.
-
Seems like I missed a lot after I left!! But Congrats to our amazing hosts for this event, you guys are so inspiring and taught that a little thing like a manga could create so much love and help for those in need!
Great job!
And is the recording up yet? Cause I really wanna see what I missed. (or are our hosts still asleep?) -
I am not still asleep. I woke up early for work today, haha.
No, we did not announce anything for next week because sone things aren't fully locked yet.
As for recording, we had some technical problems (once you go live, you're live and it's harder to take care of the technical end then). So some may be, I don't know what, but please try to understand.
Thank you to all those that stopped by, donated (whether at our site or another/money or something else), and/or helped spread the word. We couldn't have done it without you.
-

I have a… I just... I but... uum... heeeey....
I have to be a responsible adult sometimes... I have work at 6am on weekdays... staying up woulda destroyed my sleep schedule...
-
<3 Al and Rin for sticking around the whole/most of the time. You guys are nuts. We appreciate the support.
Guys, at one point I'll run through all nine pages of this thread, but I think it's safe to say that everyone in Japan and the U.S. know that One Piece fans can indeed rock.
The audio will not be up for some time. That's a ton of work…so at least a few weeks. I didn't record 100% of it due to technical issues but I'd say over 90-95% was recorded of the 24 hours. Compiling it is going to be a bitch, but I want it to sound good. I'll keep you up to date.
-
Hey, I was there too all day, lol.
But hey, I'm willing to wait three months if the audio sounds good.
I think the ones that were probably lost was the SSA Podcast segment. That's where most of the issues were happening, if I recall.
-
Guys I shall make a confession.
I wasn't around for this.
This computer is used for business so aside from just listening to music, I can't afford to take it away for a full 24 hours !
-
As for recording, we had some technical problems (once you go live, you're live and it's harder to take care of the technical end then).
I could see you the moment everyone on the chat started posting "not working" or "can't hear it" over and over again and your expression was like "Gotta fix it now"! But you did awesome throughout the whole thing.
Another funny thing I remember was when anonymous donated $1,000 and Zach nearly jumped outta his seat. I couldn't believe it myself either when I refreshed the page. I would periodically post the exact amount earned for people in the chat and was blown away with that.
One more thing, and this is directed to the the guys on the podcast, do any of you have a rough sketch of e1n's Straw Hat commission? Or is that too confidential?
-
@Zach:

Not just One Piece fans, anime fans in general.

Wait, people were able to see us for all 24 hours? Shit.

It continues to go up, even now.
I've raised $31,360.00
of my $25,000 goal so far!
601 donations
have been made to date. This is just incredible beyond words.
I hope you guys at the One Piece Podcast realize just what a feat it is you pulled off. As a podcast that started off so small, you've essentially done something not many fans could pull off. Not to mention the connections you've made and the recognition you've received from countless in the anime industry, and now even in Japan.
And you can only go up from here. It feels like you guys could get jobs at FUNimation or something if you wanted, haha. Though I know you all have your own paths to follow.
Sorry, just a random speech.

Wow~ <3
Are you guys asking any artist to help, or are you choosing based on specific qualities? I'm just curious, since I only know two people who've made art for this. c:

Actually more than that:
I've raised $31,375.00
of my $25,000 goal so far!602 donations
have been made to date.We know, things haven't quite started to set in for us yet though. Not even that amazing number. Chopperrules, you continue to be awesome, and it's amazing you stayed up with us. We appreciate it, and everything you've done! I've been where you are now (employment-wise) and I know how much it sucks. Look up: just keep trying. Something will happen.
-
Thanx 'fer the link Jason.
I wonder how Greg's radio interview went. The people over there in Japan really appreciate all of what everyone is doing over here to help them out. But I'm sure if I were in their situation I would feel the same way.
-
@Zach:

Hopefully the number will continue to rise.
And thanks man, I greatly appreciate your words of encouragement. But you guys are the heroes here. I did nothing in comparison and wouldn't have been able to raise money like that if I tried, haha. You guys just keep doing what you do best. That is where I get inspiration from lately.
Also, have you heard anything from Greg concerning the interview. I was also excited about that.
-
Not sure about the radio, but here's the follow-up:

Now that's awesome! I think its great you guys are getting the recognition you deserve! Greg too!!
Here's a link for DragonBall fans to help out Japan: http://kanzentai.com/index.php?subaction=showcomments&id=1300742600&archive=&start_from=&ucat=&
Apparently, Shuesha put a video on their YouTube encouraging DragonBall (as well as all their other manga fans) to give you're genki energy to Japan and to tell everyone to keep supporting them.
-
Just finished reading through all the comments from last night. You are all far too kind. I'm thrilled, beyond thrilled at the amount we brought in. Though I may have been mentally awake for just a few hours of this event, I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished.
A sneak peak for all you guys on AP for next week:
FUNimation will be there talking about their new website
Evangelion will be discussedThat's all I can say at the moment. I want everything to be cemented before I announce any specific names. Should be before Wednesday hopefully.
Thanks again, AP!
-
You're welcome, brother.
-
No reason to thank us Zach, you guys were really the reason I was listening for over 10 hours (I realized I had an account like 6 hours in lol). You guys really should be proud for what you were able to acheive and srsly God will reward you, and the people's blessings who will be helped will be pricelss…
This event is something that everyone who took part in any way will never forget and will tell their children and grandchildren as an example of how the littlest things that give you joy could really have a everlasting affect to save ppl!
Keep up the great work!
P.S: Take your time with the recording, cause the more you make us wait the more we'll enjoy it. -
Can't wait for next week.
I think the new goal should be $60,000!
-
You Guys are famous now ….... ( i am sure you guys would win the next Podcast Awards next time around)

Did the interview with Maile get recorded, because that was one of the parts where I just could not get a stable connection to the stream and missed out on what sounded like a hell of a good time.
-
Stoked for the UStream podcast again this weekend bros. Cannot wait!
And Steve you're gonna finish that goddamn rap!
-
And somehow Blum will save him…
-
For the One Piece Podcast guys: You guys are doing another thing like this this weekend, right (just not 24 hrs, I assume)?
EDIT: Look at me, late to the party . Found the schedule for the new event this weekend, tomorrow from 12-6:30 PM. Should be fun.
EDIT #2: gasp you guys will be interviewing the (up to now) ever elusive Stephanie Young! I'll be looking forward to that.
Here's the new schedule: http://helpjapan.sched.org/

@mdmartin101:

Somebody rapping? Send in the Blum.
