@TakinawaTonfa:
Well all this Sonic talk has got me curious.
Wheres a good place to start and/or conversely, what can/should I skip over?
Pretty much what Sympathy X said, but to elaborate…
From 1-50 it starts following the SatAM concept and character, but with Archie humor. Basically SatAM as a wacky, unfunny monstrosity. The closer it gets to issue 50, though, the more gradually it begins to become darker, and more in line with SatAM itself. The Endgame arc was decent, but a bit of a clusterfuck (behind-the-scenes shinaneganry, from what I understand). After that it's good, but obviously struggling to find a way to fill in the void Robotnik's death left. There's an arc where Sonic and Tails travel the world hunting down the sorceror Ixis Naugus that I remember being really entertaining (it's been awhile, though, so I don't remember too many details). Then they find a way to replace Robotnik by using an old plot thread of multiple universes, bringing over a psychotic Robo-Robotnik who killed Snic in his world and took that universe over, deciding to fill the void in both their lives. Robo-Robotnik is immediately destroyed, but downloads his mind into a new body--the current Dr. Eggman appearance.
The early Robo-Robotnik stuff really shines. This is where it feels the most like an updated version of SatAM, with an even more sinister variant of Robotnik, now inhuman, with the power to Roboticize with a touch.

Coupled with that, while the plotlines were serious, it never got so heavy as to forget the fact that this was still a comic written with younger readers in mind, so things didn't get too heavy handed. Though how much you enjoy this point hinges on how much you care about character-related drama happening amongst anthropomorphic characters. If you're like me, and you could give two shits, you'll enjoy it just fine. This went on until about the mid-to-late 100's, where it starts to stagnate. Like any comic, the quality depends on the writer. I wouldn't say 130 kills it, but the brief arc right before that was pretty bad (the Sonic in space stuff). His return to Mobius is pretty good, and the following battle with M (Robotnik's Lady-Terminator. And I mean that literally) was entertaining. There's no real point where I can think "from here on it's shit" because it just starts gradually petering out after the Angel Island mini-arc.
At about issue 160, Ian Flynn takes over as writer, and the comic's been at its peak ever since. Case in point…

It's basically been a Sonic Colors-style "rerailment" of the characters since then, and the comic's the best it's ever been in my opinion.
I've got the whole damn series in CBR form if you're ever interested. Just bring a flash drive next time you're over.
