@Richard Walker at XboxAchievements:
Despite being effectively complete and ready to launch in Japan on July 5th, SEGA's re-shuffling of its western releases in light of poor financial results has seemingly had an adverse effect on the US and European release of Anarchy Reigns, which is now slated for a western launch in 2013.
"The release of Anarchy Reigns has been re-evaluated. We now expect to launch in Europe and America in Q1 of 2013," SEGA declared on Twitter in response to queries regarding the game's release in western territories following a few months of uncertainty.
SEGA had announced that Anarchy Reigns will be delayed in the west last month, but we're not sure anyone could have guessed that it would be delayed into the first quarter of 2013. Anarchy Reigns was also a no-show for SEGA at E3 earlier this month. Boo.
@Lee Bradley at XboxAchievements:
Platinum Games’ Atsushi Inaba has taken to Twitter to voice his frustration at Anarchy Reigns’ delay in the West.
Last night SEGA announced that the multiplayer brawler will now ship in Europe and North America at some point in early 2013.
Inaba is not particularly happy about the announcement, however. He revealed that the delay is not due to extra development time being needed on the game, adding that SEGA’s announcement last night was the first he had heard of it.
“First of all, we are done with all international versions of Anarchy Reigns,” tweeted Inaba. “The delay is not due to further development on the game. Also, even though the release dates will be different, the content of both the Japanese and Western versions will be 100% the same.”
Perhaps most worryingly, Inaba went on to say, "Today's Q1 2013 release was the first we'd heard of it. Even if we wanted to, we can't comment as we're (still) in the dark officially."
The producer went on to confirm that the Japanese release of the game on July 5 remains unaffected, before apologising to fans.
“I want to sincerely apologize to all the fans worldwide for all the confusion this situation has caused. Even though we are the game’s developers, we can only do so much about this.”
He concluded by saying, “However, we hope you can continue to support Anarchy Reigns and look forward to playing it with us in the future. Thank you.”
What in God's green earth is going on at Sega, man?
