What can I say, I loved this chapter!!
I think I know why Robin is so freaked out about the Buster Call and about Luffy and crew going after her.
It seems that her only friends in the whole island are those quirky archeologists. The buster call was initiated because they wanted to catch Robin to unlock the weapon Pluton(same happened with Franky). But when they were trying to capture her, her archeologists friends stepped in and tried to protect her and she saw them die before her(I got this from an image in where someone looked like they were shot and Robin was crying). So filled with rage, she used her powers to destroy the fleets(remember she was wanted for destroying some ships) of the buster call.
The end.
Train of thought: "…..Buggy?"
Yeah yeah, I know. Just saying.
Maybe Nico Robin didn't know Gol D. Roger (her dad) because he left her when she was still a young baby :hmm:
The Ohara Demon seems to be solved (young Nico Robin (in Ohara) with akuma no mi power = Demon of Ohara)
The archeologists are the only good friends young Robin had (and they probably were caught by the Buster Call) maybe that's why she's so scared of losing the few friends she was now
The Buster Call starts to seem to be a fleet used like a weapon of massive destruction (attempt of W.G. to replicate the ancient weapons powers) >_>
And I can't keep my eyes of off young Robin-Chan she's so lovely <3
Doctorine had a house in a tree and so did these people.
you should also look at the translators note i put at the bottom of my translation.
I don't read your translations nor was I responding to a post of your's. I was talking to Ivotas.
Cap'n-
I know Robin has been a huge let-down recently but I think Luffy basically laid the smack down on her last week. Saying what he said made up for it, so long as SOMEONE in the series realized that she was being absurd. I gotta say, no matter how dissapointing she's been, I've been waiting for this for a long time and I really can't believe it's finally here.
Yeah, I do agree that it almost seems unreal that we're treated to her past so soon.
It's not that lately she's been a bitch, I've just never really been interested in her. (shrug) But I'm sure her past will be interesting and heartbreaking. Part of it is that I was expecting some action and after 10 minutes of sitting and waiting for the download from crappy AOL connection to work. But I'd re-read the chapter, and I like it more now. So, I guess I'm warming up to it. Also, I liked all of the emotion she showed in the present.
Any other thoughts on my Tree of Knowledge connection?
Nami chasing Chopper like when Luffy chased chopper in the Drum castle.
Yeah, but, when Luffy chased Chopper, he wanted to eat him. It makes me wonder, what reason does Nami have to chase him? O_o
Any other thoughts on my Tree of Knowledge connection?
Hmm… I can't think alot of specifics, but this does perk my interest. The Biblical Tree of Knowledge was the only one that couldn't be eaten from, and was also the one the serpent tricked Eve into eating from. Not sure if those will have any connections, but you never know...
Probably to cuddle up to his warm fur or something. I think Chopper's gay, he didn't like Porsche either..
It makes me wonder, what reason does Nami have to chase him? O_o
Dunno, maybe she wants to cuddle him to keep warm?!
Also… I can't believe Chopper & Zoro STILL haven't seen Franky yet.

Hmmmm, not a bad metaphor….
Adam and Eve eat Fruit of knowledge, get punished by Mr.Big aka God.
Robin and archaeologists learn about forbidden history, punished my Mr.Big aka World Governmant.
Yeah, that's the connection I made in my post earlier. Oda's really awesome, now I like this chapter even more.
If you re-read the alabasta arc where they are in the desert, you'll see that Chopper loves the cold weather, and people try to cuddle up to him for warmth. Chopper does not like this. He didn't like Porche because he didn't want to be part of the Foxy pirates. He's not gay, he was one of the victims of Nami's happiness punch. (Besides, he's a reindeer first, he'd most likely be attracted to anther female reindeer…)
On a completely different note...
It would be strange that any well respecting military officer would give someone as psycotic as Spandam the authority to use something like a buster call. What if that den den mushi given to him is a fake, and he doesn't know it? (He must think it's real, otherwise he wouldn't talk to himself about it like it was real.)
Finally! Dad gum…. Robin's been growin on me ever so steadily since the arc started, so think I'm going to enjoy this.
It is unreal seeing it begin, but I'm not even sure why.
@Battle:
Dunno, maybe she wants to cuddle him to keep warm?!

I guess it's being saved for a less serious moment.

It does seem a little strange for Spandam to be given such a power, especially by the likes of Kiji. But what I find even stranger, is that he could use such a power to freely strike a place like Enies Lobby, surely one of the bigwigs would overrule such a decision?
Remember, the reason Ao Kiji gave Spandam the power to use Buster Call is still unknown. When Robin asked Spandam before, he freaked out and smacked her around.
I like the possibility of it being a bluff, but Spandam sure thinks that it's real. Maybe it's a fake? I kinda hope not, to be honest. I do agree that it seems weird using such a power in Enies Lobby, since it could be destroyed in the crossfire.
I think the Buster Call's purpose is more to force Robin's hand than to be actually used.
on a side note, robin is now the youngest DF user in the series, not including that annoying brat in the filler arc in the anime
and yea i absolutely love this chapter already.
and by the way, pandaman sighting directly below oimo when hes about to do the oimo press
and Battle franky… dude, your ava... i cant help but to stare at it... do something about it!!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't it still be Luffy (ate his at age 7)
was he 7? oops my bad then…
PANDA MAN!!! first page bottom.
I was trying to finish up before I left for Thanksgiving dinner but didn't have the time. But anyways, here's your post-dinner/Black Friday surprise: scripts for OP 390-391 and all the v.39 goodies.
on a side note, robin is now the youngest DF user in the series, not including that annoying brat in the filler arc in the anime!
Well, Robin is 8, and I believe that Luffy was 7 when he ate the fruit. So we would need to know how long ago she ate the devils fruit to make that statement.
I don't know if anybody else mentioned this… but Aunt Roji (Roji Oba-san)... Roji is an old way to say "u" (cormorant, a bird). So it's another female-bird-name-series.
... Now that I look at ooshi's and stephen's translation... Why Roji oba-san becomes uncle and miss? o.o
Tree of Knowledge. Yggdrasil?
Either way, it's still awesome.
is it just me or is robin giving a sign to franky?
it's from page 7 (hq scan) chapter 391
@Cap'n:

Yeh, it seems like Spandam's playing directly on her emotioms, trying to force reactions out of her and he's obviously pushing all the right buttons. Whether or not it is in fact real doesn't seem to matter, it's purpose seems to be keeping her fearful & under his control & it's working.
@Cap'n:
Remember, the reason Ao Kiji gave
I think the Buster Call's purpose is more to force Robin's hand than to be actually used.
I agree, and did anyone else find "force Robin's hand" hillarious
and by the way, pandaman sighting directly below oimo when hes about to do the oimo press
I had to enlarge like by x10 to see him, good eye.
finally ! Robin's flashback ….. poor litle Robin =( ... but still, she's sooo cute <3
thanks for the chapter and the translation =)
is it just me or is robin giving a sign to franky?

No, I don't think so… The Cipher Pol's standing right beside her; risky.
Shes telling him to duck Kaku's kicks XD
Um I wonder, seeing as Spanda wants CP9 to fight the Strawhats only from the Judicial Tower, if perhaps each fight will take place on specific floor of the tower? It's certainly tall enough, though could one building withstand such chaos?
Also, I love how open Spanda is about being such a spineless coward.

Maybe some will take place inside, but as you said, I doubt the building would survive long. Plus, fighting in such short quarters would cramp Sanji (again…), limit Chopper's Jumping Point maneuverability, and make some of Nami's ClimaTact techniques worthless.
Which I don't want to see.
Spandam cracks me up, when I don't want to choke him to death.

Hmmm, it didn't occur to me that Roji might actually be her aunt. I just assumed from the sound of it that she was living with "strangers" or non-family. Though I guess it could fit the mold of "evil aunt" or stepmother type thing. It's easy enough to change once we find out. Unless it was stated in the past that Robin lived with her aunt? I don't remember off-hand.
No, I meant more of… You used Miss instead of Mrs. or Ms. Isn't Miss for a single woman?
(And please ignore me calling a stranger aunty/uncle. I still do that even though it's not right in English >_<; Too much Japanese/Chinese influences.)
I thought they were related because they have the same nose.
Hmm… I can't think alot of specifics, but this does perk my interest. The Biblical Tree of Knowledge was the only one that couldn't be eaten from, and was also the one the serpent tricked Eve into eating from. Not sure if those will have any connections, but you never know...
The tree in the Garden of Eden is specifically called "The tree of knowledge of good and evil". I have had this feeling for a while that the government is hiding "the true history" because while it may contain a lot of information regarding technology that was really fantastic and useful, it also carries the temptation of being used for great evil. Maybe those who buried the knowledge of the past thought that the world would be better left in ignorance. Knowledge sacrificed for saftey. The tree in the Garden of Eden was like that. Adam and Eve were free to live in Paradise because they were unaware of the existence of evil. Once they learned about good and evil, then they were forever tempted with choosing evil, hence the fall of mankind in to a sinful nature.
That's just my thoughts, I have no idea what Oda is doing with all that there.
Still downloading the thing.
I can't wait! Robin's flashback! What's this I hear about Hiriluk?
There's nothing about Hiruluk, just one guy looks kind of like him with his hair.
4 minutes left!
No OP next week? This is horrible! Why us?! WHY US?!
EDIT-
Done.
I got nothing to say that hasn't been said already. I love it!
I really like how young Robin looks when she's eating. So cute!

Well, Robin been around since chapter 114, I come to wonder why does it takes Oda 277 chapters and 6 years to finally reavel her past? Hopefully this gets explianed in the flashback.
And the library in the the tree tells me Oda did not lost his creatively, because this is in West Blue, it's nice to see strange things outside the Grand Line
is it just me or is robin giving a sign to franky?
To me, it almost looks like she has a key and is freeing herself.
Of course, I don't think either is the case. Doing either directly in front of CP9 wouldn't be smart, and despite her current emotions, Robin is far smarter than that.
(P.S. - Robin flashback!)
I knew it, the flashback will begin the fight begins… I hope this flashback isn't too long.

I can't recall where I originally posted it, but my theory is that the Holy Land status of Mariejoa is somehow connected to the Ancient Weapons; possibly that they were destroyed or stopped there by some other means.
However, the activity of the Ancient Weapons was somehow related to the land of Mariejoa: whether they were activated accidentally or intentionally (perhaps for the purpose of destroying the ancient Jayan civilization)and then simply ran amuck. That or the person in charge of the machine may have had very different ideas about what he should be doing with the awesome power at his command than his superiors. So the destruction/defeat of these machines was really just the inhabitants of Mariejoa correcting a horrendous mistake they had made, but such knowledge was lost after the fact during the widespread confusion of the era as well as the destruction of many historical records along with the civilizations that recorded.
The seat of the World Government is Mariejoa and a sudden revelation that the people who had saved the world were almost responsible for destroying it would be a critical blow to the reputation of a government that is already threatened by a potential revolution, weakened by varying amounts of internal corruption, and is actively losing the war against piracy. The World Government is besieged on all sides as well as from within and cannot afford that much damage to its reputation.
The only choice then is to seek out and crush anybody who might dig too far into the past.
Wow, Oda has finally given it to us, after all these years, his most mysterious character is finally featured in the black pages.
I'm sure I'm not saying anything here which hasn't been mentioned yet seeing as I'm on page 13 of the thread, but what the hell. The chapter was that good.
For one I didn't really notice that Luffy and Sogeking were on the same castle rampart (or whatever the hell the square thing on the tops of the wall are called) in the last chapter. Guess it wasn't that obvious to me since the spread was split when I read the last chapter. I did notice it this time and I am really hoping that it is some foreshadowing of the fights to come. I really like all the matchups there with the afforementioned Sogeking/Luffy as an almost essential to the story.
Now with Robin's past, I almost got the feeling right away that this is Oda's way of breathing his own life into our world's history. Knowing that Ohara would be destroyed, the Tree of Knowledge immediatly made me think of the destruction of the library in Alexandria. Oda can really make mankind's worst actions look so beautiful. I'm really looking foward to the next several weeks of this.
Oh and Crover (or whatever his engrish name is) reminds me of a mix between Zeff, Hiluluk, and a three and a quarter leaf clover. Not that that is a bad thing.
I don't think I've ever been so anxious for the next chapter….

I also hope that there is an other reasons besides the ancient weapeon. Like how the world was formed and what happen past million of years.
ivotas was responding to my translation.
Lol. Yep, that´s right. Nice triangular discussion here guys.
@joekido:
I'm sorry to say Ivotas but that is a stupid qustion, do you think I never knew anything about Robin? I know she has a trumaic past and I don't expect this to be a "happy past". My point is almost everyone has a tragic moments in their past which is cliche. I can understand why Robin has a sad past. Nami has it, Franky has it, Sanji has it, Usopp has it, Chopper has it, Luffy has it, Zoro has it.
Why is it a stupid question? I can´t read minds, you know. That´s why I´m asking questions. The question I directed at you was ok because the key wording was "you seem surprised". That justifies the question I ask afterwards.
And with focusing on that "stupid" question you´ve ignored the point I made about why Oda possibly shows the tragic part of the characters past.
Plus, not all the characters have a completely tragic past. Nami has, Sanji has, Chopper has, Franky has. But Luffy, Zoro and Usopp don´t have an entirely tragic past. They had tragic experiences in their past but that doesn´t make their entire past tragic.
It´s like in real life, everyone has had some tragic moment in their past and least I know for myself aswell for many people I know. But that´s far away from having a traumatic past that destroys your life for years as it was the case for Nami and Chopper. You can´t just throw in all the characters past´s in one pot. There a difference between having a tragic past and having a tragic moment in your past.
Tragic past? Heck in this very chapter, the last couple of pages didn't seem very tragic to me. That's Oda showing the good part of childhoods. Until bad things happen. Because see, bad things can only happen if there's something to turn bad. And only good things can be turned bad, because bad things are already bad. By that reasoning, all the characters have had happy times at some point in time, and most continue to live with dreams save Robin, until she met the SHs, who in bringing her to Skypeia rekindled her dream.
