I'm going to go ahead and predict that next week's episode has all the ingredients for a perfect storm of suck. Ten minutes of reaction shots and "Oyajiiiiiiiiiiii!", 3-5 minutes of Buggy Filler (he has a scene in the manga), and just very little in the action. If they spill over a bit into "A Present for the New Age," it might be OK. If not…yee...
485: ''Settling the Score - Whitebeard vs. the Blackbeard Pirates''
-
-
With Sanjuan just picking his nose over there, you'd hope he'd to at least flick a booger at Whitebeard. Lazy fool.
-
He'd probably kill his whole crew if he did :P
-
A solid episodes, but it lacked the general "Holy shit" of the previous, but the death scene was handled very well.
-
You know if I am going to rate the character art for this arc…...there are so many normal guys with normal clothes and just guns and shit that they spam into focus that it realy just makes you feel most of WB'S crew is nondescript fodder.
-
@No:
Blackbeard's seiyuu is realy not good at high pitched sounds.
And that fits perfectly with his character. His voice helps to give the feeling that he's a twisted but not that brave man.
His "wahhh!" of joy in the shooting scene was awesome. -
QUALITY episode? Animation and art kinda lame, also I didn't like the BGM selection, waiting the entire episode for "To the Grand Line", well… Though next week looks awesome
-
Eh I imagined a more weasely sort of tone realy, especialy with how deep his voice is normaly.
-
R.I.P. Whitebeard
You lived and died as a total BAMF. -
Liked the episode alot. Especially the sin city esq death of WB.
-
Whitebears's death wasn't as sad as Ace's, but still powerfull. I find it weird when the BB pirates finish shooting at him, there's hardly any bullet holes in him (damn censorship).
I find it annoying when the WB pirates cries.! I'm so excited that Shanks and his crew gonna appear next episode.
-
I didnt like how they ended the episode. :/ i was hoping for them to get right to the part where …........ don't want to spoil it =D
ONE PIECE EXISTS!!! -
! I'm so excited that Shanks and his crew gonna appear next episode.
! No, if it's a chapter per episode, then shanks and his crew appear about….on the 4th episode after this one, though shanks himself makes a small cameo at the end of the 3rd episode after this one.
-

He didn't have any visible bullet hole in the manga either.
And wow, what a bunch of manga spoilers.
-
@Mr.333:

! Crap, totally forgot that there still more chapters to go -_- guess better wait for 4 more weeks. (miss the times when it was 2 chapters per episodes)
-
Blackbeard's assault on Whitebeard was much more brutal than the manga, probably because it was so dragged out. I wouldn't be suprised if most of the 152 bullets came from the Blackbeards themselves.
-
lol at Romani being an idiot and putting in spoilers. But I don't really care anyway.
-
blackbeards voice acting is so good
loved it in this episode.
wish he didn't shoot whitebeard a zillion times with a gun like that as if it had a bottomless clip then draw attention to it running out of ammo. not that big of a deal though, the episode was still great. -
This is the death of a legend….
-No recap? No "This is the Great Age of Pirates" intro? Awesome!
-Whitebeard vs Blackbeard...let get this shit started.
-Oyaji!!! is the new Eiissssuuu!!!!
-What the fuck is with Teach getting those cheap ass blows, Toei?! Don't ruin the episode already!
-Whitebeard slashes Teach with extreme prejudice!
-"No, Pops! You wouldn't kill your own son? Would you?!!"
-Quake Face
-WB Pirates: "FINISH HIM!!!"
-Holy Shit! Newgate got gangraped!!! In fucking black and white!! Brutal!
-Teach: "KILL HIM! Kill him with bullets and swords and scythes and whatever the fuck that thing is!!! Kill him until he's dead, then kill him again!!"
-Newgate and Roger flashback is perfection.
-Here comes the epic speech...
-The music sucks ass. Come on, Toei! This is fucking Edward Fucking Newgate here!
-ONE PIECE.....IS REAL!!!
-He...he died....STANDING!!!
-lol wut? There's no swords in his chest?! Come on, Toei!
-Not a scar of a retreat wounds it!
Good episode. Could've been better, though. Edward deserves more.
9/10
4 more episodes left.....!
Hmmm…this reminds me of something... -
That was way more graphic than the manga.
I think the episode was handled quite well.
This is sort of confusing in the anime and the manga though.Remember how a sniper would be pretty pointless. Any one worth anything in OP is far superior to a gun. Why were all the BlackBeards packing multiple guns?
! Can't wait till Shanks pops up, because it means this war is finally over.
-
When Blackbeard said,
"You wouldn't kill your own son?"I swear he deserved more than a quake in the face.
-
Damn, I got massive goosebumps and literally cheered when WB pinned down BB and quaked him in the face. That scene was delicious.
Loved the brutal beatdown of WB by the BB pirates.
The episode was well done, IMO. The music could've been better, but eh.
EDIT: Wait, I forgot to say that Toei kinda made WB a bit weak in this episode, what with Teach uppercutting him and shit. I think they took too much liberty there.
-
Just curious if anyone knows but after this arc are they gonna go into fillers or just continue doing 1 chapter per episode and if there are fillers how long would you expect them to last?
-

im kinda used to only hearing a few songs played for a decade straight. really wish they could budget some new ones in.
@Jekkie:Just curious if anyone knows but after this arc are they gonna go into fillers or just continue doing 1 chapter per episode and if there are fillers how long would you expect them to last?
i kinda hope we get fillers, cut's down on bad pacing imo.
-
I can't believe that this show which is known for horribly slow pacing ruined the ending by RUSHING it.
-
Damn. I am really happy the transaltion was horrible. Otherwise there might have been even more manly tears.
Rest in Peace Pops. I am sure that Lucifer is currently fearing for his lfe
-
They didn't do this chapter justice, also the directing was poor. Music choices were bad, Animation was stiff.
Anyway, decent episode nonetheless. But very very disappointing end for a great man. In other words they butchered it.
-
This was one of my personal favorite episodes of One Piece. The re-use of music I haven't heard in a very long time in the anime was very effective and nostalgic for me. Though Newgate COULD have used his own musical score, true. Anyway, I found the episode to be nearly perfect. And props to Toei for including the new BB pirates in the opening, didn't know if they would do that. Classy move.
And yeah wtflolbruisesinsteadofswords. You'll show him getting shot, stabbed, and slashed dozens of times, but can't have some puny swords in there?I give it a 10/10 still, though, for doing the manga justice, in my opinion.
7/10 comparing it to what I imagined in my head it would be like. -
Hmm animation and music could have been better. Direction was good though. RIP Whitebeard.
-
A great episode.
Everything was ok. -
Not a single scar on his back
fuckin sick -
i knew it was coming but… WHITEBEARD! :'(
-
Not a bad episode… but there was one thing...
A picture's worth a thousand words:
!
JERKS!But it was a nice episode.
-
Could it be?! 3rd week in a row without obnoxius Buggy filler! Solid episode overall. When BB beat him up and they recapped all of WB's wounds, it reminded me how nerfed the anime made him to the manga though…can't have everything I guess.
-
Overall liked. Animation was good, pacing better than most and the added bits were actually good, like the BB fight. I always wondered after the manga how would the BB money punch work on WB, and I pictured it exactly as that. Moving and shaking the man but not downing him. Liked specially how his first punch was the "Ace stomach breaker", it was kind of fitting. Toei seems to have a much better understanding of BB as opposed to, lets say, Akainu or Mihawk. I would have gone for a unique music for WBs death, felt a bit generic. But tears happened, so i guess gj. 8/10
-
Well a solid episode though it could have been more epic. RIP Whitebeard you legend this was my favourite chapter in the mangas.
-
I'm a manga person so I don't watch the anime that much but this episode is truly epic.
-
Amazing episode. It was just as epic as Whitebeard deserved. I'm apparently in the minority here, but I thought it was handled much better than Ace's death and I enjoyed the music (what's exactly everybody's problem with the music? that they didn't use new music? :wassat:). I cheered at the end of the "the One Piece exists" speech.
-
One of the best episodes of War arc. Toei finally did some justice to the manga epicness.
-
solid episode. enjoyed it alot
-
WHITEBEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD!!! :cwy:
This time I'm truly pleased with TOEI. Only one small thing… Why WB has Gear 2?
-

QUALITY episode? Animation and art kinda lame, also I didn't like the BGM selection, waiting the entire episode for "To the Grand Line", well… Though next week looks awesome
Exactly the same as me. How awesome would it be a To the Grand Line during the "ONE PIECE IS REAL" and continuing in the flashback <3 And then the Narrator talked without music. Sometimes no music gives more impact.
But I liked the shooting scene.
-
This wasn't a bad episode. This wasn't a good episode either. This episode just was there. And that's all.
The monochrome scene actually deserves praise. As well as the work of seiyuu - Teach and Newgatesound incredibly true to themselves. Everything else - art, animation, music, partly directing - simply feels disappointing. For a great, great moment like this I couldn't help but expect something more.
I am sad a little. Both for Newgate and this anime.
-

Actually, in this case, the problem is that they didn't use good, old music.
To The Grand Line was just perfect fit for this scene. So much they used it some chapters ago. And in this chapter they used great music, but not so lets say, EPIC. Not bad. Disappointing. -
And props to Toei for including the new BB pirates in the opening, didn't know if they would do that. Classy move.
Wow, you're right. Can't believe i missed that.
I didn't think they would do this, but now i'm wondering if they'll really add S guy in the LuffyxAce scenes when the time comes.and I enjoyed the music (what's exactly everybody's problem with the music? that they didn't use new music? :wassat:
Internets. One person says the choice was bad, dozens follow and repeat
Seriously now, it's amazing how Akio Ohtsuka managed to "get" his character so well, now that he had the time to do so. I mean, up until the Banaro fight, Blackbeard sounded more…monotonous i guess.
-
Black Beards atttacking WB in Black and White
Marco going in Phoenix-form before WB stopped him
Voice Acting
WBs Flashback+/-
rewatching WBs wounds
MusicBB getting some blows against WB and WB triing with his quakes
No swords in Whitebeard somehow takes away something -
Oh god, why did they have BB's crew taking out Whitebeard :
fucking terrible death scene aswell, 10 seconds of crappy attacks over and over -
The great pirate Edward Newgate. What a fking legend he is. R.I.P Pops. Even at the end, you made Blackbeard look like a pathetic whiney little bitch.
Awesome episode - a legendary end for a legendary pirate. Epic final words. Everything about Whitebeard is Epic.
