Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

Funny? I didnt even laugh once… am I missing something?
different strokes for different folks I guess.
-
I haven't found a funny scene in Madoka. It's either lighthearted or serious.
But there is one scene that turns me on. Yeah…...it's my sig.
Another one for Hidamari Sketch fans out there:
!
-
This show reminds me of Narutaru so far, just hopefully with less gore and rape. Certainly not many Magical Girl series can claim that their cute mascot character is Mephisto.
-
just watched episode 4. This show is very good
! So the blue hair girl because a magical girl and heals the dude. The other chick hasn't made a reason but is really upset over mami's death. There's another magical girl that appeared that wants to defeat the blue haired girl.
-
TLS, Holy Hell, Zenigame.
Should I be watching this series?
I need to know.
-
I'm not sure yet whether I would recommend this, Silence.
The best way to word my opinion is, "so far so good". I am liking what I'm seeing right now and I'm almost excited about future episodes, but Narutaru comparisons someone made earlier are apt. Just as the real telling points of Narutaru's quality came near the final volumes, the real telling points in Madoka Magica's quality will come in the later stages of its life, maybe the last few episodes. Basically, how it handles where things will go.
I would definitely say watch it if you're interested in seeing things unfold in "real time" as its episodes come out, though!

That's part of why I ask now. When it comes to anime if I'm not following a show week to week I don't tend to deal with backlogs even having an abundance of time. I'm juggling a lot of series this season. If I'm getting on board this train, it's soon, and I am very SHAFT wary - but it's their first original series! Conflict!
You've got great taste and like a lot of the things I like, so thanks for the advice though. I'll think about this.
EDIT: PAUSE. Yuki Kajiura's doing the music? SOLD.
-
So..anyone coming up with theories?
! Doesn't anyone think that Kyubee is creepy and the evil mastermind behind everything? Because, that's what, I think.
-
Full OP song here, btw:
-
So I'm caught up. Very interesting! Interesting art, interesting direction, and unapologetically dark, just how I like it. Knowing
! Mami was going to die did spoil some of fun though Accelerator.
When do new episodes generally come out every week?
-
I don't think I spoiled anything. What I said was pretty much vague.
Also,
! Gen Urobuchi, the writer, has stated that both Mam and Kamina died pretty much the same/similarly.
I don't know if Gen is serious or not. Both of that scene were nothing alike.

! > Due to ep 3, Ume Aoki, the character designer of this show and the mangaka of Hidamari Sketch cried and can't bring herself to draw as she said in her twitter.
Being the mangaka of a lighthearted cute manga, I guess she's just shocked to see one of the characters she designed ended up like….that.
! That.
! And your signature. And people talking about spoilers.put 2 and 2 together
it's crazy obvious dude.
-
Really? Wow, people are sharper than I thought.
-
Come on, your signature is awesome but you can't tell me that you didn't expect people to get spoiled.
-

Seriously, I didn't. I thought that people would just think "The fuck is with that girl tap dancing and the word "OM NOM NOM NOM" below it? Some random shit I don't get I suppose."
-

c'mon man you were told about it already.

I've never watched a single second of this goofy show and even I could tell by the erratic movements, hands left down on the side, stretched up head and the lack of ground that the person was being hanged.
-
! Uh, that's no hanging…
I never thought I'd say this about a Magical Girl show, but I'm ready for the next episode. I'll watch it later today.
-

TLS.
Give it a shot! Watch two episodes, see what you think.

Well given the gloomy atmosphere, she looked dead at any rate.
Edit: Wait, OMNOMONOMNOM? Is her head being eaten?
@Silence:TLS.

I already have a HUGE back-log when it comes to anime. I have 9 episodes of Arakawa under the Bridge to finish which I've left for quite a while, half the episodes left for my umpteenth rewatch of Akagi (and I really need to rewatch Kaiji for the umpteenth time now that a new season's coming out) not to mention it's been over 6 months since I progressed past the midway point of Digimon season 2 in the conquest to see all the digimon seasons subbed. Add to that to my desire to watch the Other World Negima ovas some day. AND add to that my interest in the other new series that came out such as Level E, Houruo Musuko (though I'll probably just read the manga for that), Panty and Stocking and Gosick if it's any good. Yeah… huge backlog. I am interested though and it is on my list. Might as well give some time till it's finished so I can watch the full package. Kinda sucks that I got spoiled early over a character death though...
-
LoL I don't know what an anime back log is LawL just watch em in your spare time.

MARNING RESKEW

-
gg's habit of inserting some kind of energy drink commercial into their recent releases.
-
You guys download gg?
OH COME THE FUCK ON, USE NUTBLADDER INSTEAD.
-
fukk dat gg is amazing
-
gg
amazing
Pick one.
I'd rather not download a sub with shitty encoding that resulted in a too big file size, unnecessary commercials, trolling, dropping a series halfway, or an over-localized translation along with lots of unnecessary swearing.
I'd download gg if there is no other option and they are the only group that sub a show I like(Star Driver for example), but when there is another alternative that is better and is just as fast, then why not? -

-
I don't really have much of a problem with their translations, but I hate their crappy encoding, and knowing that they're doing it on purpose makes it worse.
-
Does Koda still work with gg?
I hung around with her for a while and I always remember her talking about the subbing back during their Code Geass days.
-
@Holy:

She does!
Her hi-larious Code Geass blog more or less married me to gg, for better or for worse.
-
She was a fun friend. She and her pals were the only way I got through Code Geass by the end of it, actually. It was around when I was more in tune with watching anime and talking about episodes weekly with a community, so silly events were had.
I kind of miss those days. Like this season Madoka Magica is the only thing I've watched each time an episode drops and last anime season I had lots of last minute catchups and batches of episodes.
It's hard to do the weekly-by-weekly thing for anime too many years in a row.

It's true! By its end Code Geass was such a ridiculous trainwreck that thanks to gg, koda's blog, and… gasp /a/, the conversation about how over the top it had gotten turned out to be even more entertaining than the new highs and oh-so-lows to which the show had soared. It was a bit like watching LOST - a phenomenon, but by it's end not necessarily a good one. You kinda had to be there for it, watching the episodes week by week, agonizing over them with your friends. I would definitely not have watched all of Code Geass if it was well after the show had ended, or my friends weren't watching it too.
I've followed gg ever since, a) because it's refreshing to see fansubbers who aren't as serious as a heart attack and b) because they tend to sub some of the best shows every season.
I feel you on the week-by-week anime thing though. It's a fandom I find PRETTY EASY to fall out of, but then again, I grew up on renting Akira and Wicked City from Blockbuster and chinatown Dragonball subs on VHS. I may as well be a fogey. I got into reading manga because it was just that much easier to keep up with.
-
Like Gurren-Lagann, Geass wouldn't have been a quarter as fun if there wasn't a huge number of people discussing it and making fun of it. I still have my logs from #horribleraws and they're a riot to go back through.
I wouldn't credit gg with any of that, though. If anything, SomethingAwful's goons were the ones who coined most of the humour that defined the series, like the famous trainwreck paragraph metaphor.
-
I never meant to say they coined it.
Perhaps it would have been more accurate to say that's where I got it from.
Not that it matters.
-
New signature and avatar because I don't give a fuuuUUUUCK

Kyubei is
!
-
Mami has a very cool looking giant mecha. It has cool details especially above the neck.
!
-
@Holy:
Kyubei is
T-those eyes…it's like they're staring deep into my soul, smiling at all the pain and anguish it causes...seriously, I find Kyuubey scary as all hell, I pretty much screams EBILLL!!!every time I saw him on screen.
But more to the topic, since we know that Madoka will be a Mahou Shoujo eventually (it's in the title and everything), what do you think her wish will be? I don't know how powerful Kyuubey's wish-granting power could be, but if it's anything like Dragon Ball, then could it be possible for her to
! Revive Mami?
Probably not, but that's an interesting thought.
-
That's what I'm hoping for however, it doesn't seem as though it will go that way.
-
That's what I'm hoping for however, it doesn't seem as though it will go that way.
I thought so too, and I'm sure many others did. But after last episode it doesn't feel like it'll happen.
-
what I think is that
! something may happen with Madoka's mother which will cause her to wish to become a Mahou Shoujo. Maybe somehting relating to her work or something… since they have been putting emphasis that her mother works very hard and wants to get a promotion but at the same time doesnt like her job much
-
This is a vague outline of how I figure everything will go down the next few episodes
! Madoka won't make her wish until near the end of the series, I believe. If not the end, I'm sure that she won't make it until she's "broken". Something will force her to do it, despite her knowing full well "what" it entails. I'm not sure what it really is yet, obviously, none of us do. But we certainly know Kyubee is up to no good and I believe Madoka will know before she becomes a puella magi.
! I believe Sayaka is going to have to suffer tremendously to demonstrate how Kyubee is manipulating everyone. She might possibly die, or just get completely fucked over. Basically, I'm pretty sure Sayaka is going to have to be the fall guy for the series. She's going to have to demonstrate the 'wrongs' so Madoka can make things right. -
holy shit holy shit holy shit episode 5 was good as hell !!!!!!!!!!!
-
Great setup for the next installment.
-
Episode 6 is out
and whelp, Holy, looks like (EP 6 spoilers)
! you won't have to wait long for your theory to pan out. We'd been getting hints narratively that Madoka would be forced to deal with the fallout of this clearly fucked up Magical world at the expense of Sayaka, and here's our first delicious, wretched taste!
this series is meticulously directed and maliciously twisted, and i love it.eagerly awaiting this every week
someone in a blog i read commented: "Never before have I seen a show that made me fear for the life of every character during every minute of the show."
sounds about right! although i have indeed seen shows and read manga where the characters really are at mortal risk at all times, it's certainly not something you expect out of this genre.
TLS man, you've GOT to put aside something in your backlog to make room for this.
-
Just done watching episode 6.
Meh.
Would've been a lot better if the Soul Gem got ran over by the truck instead.
You have failed me, Urobuchi.

Meh, I'll just wait at least till it finishes so I won't have to wait every week.
