Do you want me to facepalm?
My apologies.
Figured that was a good assumption from what I heard from our hero.

Just wanted to remind people that this thread is still open.
Just gonna bump this up here a little.
Take it easy? It's damn ealy. And you're not cool because people post in a thread you made, a Vol. 60 Prediction would come anyway.
Color: The Sabo color.
You just won my heart!

Let me embrace your heart!
Edit: Dam my pic got removed.

@CCC:
He says vanata and vatashi instead of anata and watashi. And he adds naburu at the end of sentences. The adding v's to the fronts of words might seem like some sort of stereotypical accent, but it's not, because it only happens with those words… and there's no translating naburu.
If you want to get technical it's probably atashi

I'm taking it easy, brother.
I'm not doing this to be cool. This is a forum, where people discuss and speculate stuff. Mostly stuff that hasn't happened yet. -
So who thinks Chapters 585~597 will all be in Volume 60? I think it might happen. It's 13 chapters, but there was a Naruto volume with that many, compared to the normal 10 or so. (It wasn't the last Part I volume, but still…)

I was going to bring this up, so thanks for reminding me!
This is a bit of a sticky situation. Oda said no more volumes that jack up the price, which a thirteen chapter volume would certainly do. I hope he bites the bullet, though, because I'd hate to see 'Paradise' and 'New World' chapters in the same volume. Thematically the split also seems to me to be the most comfortable thing to do.
-
I believe, like, a year or more ago, he said that the volumes wouldn't any longer exceed nine chapters, but the past several of them had. (Still, many of those chapters were a few pages shorter, and I don't know what the prices were…)
-
That's Naruto volume 43…I was thinking of that as well.
As much as it would cost just a little bit more...I think it would be well worth it. Having these 3 chapters overflow into volume 61 just doesn't seem right.
Having this chapter as the end of volume 60 really would be perfect. I think Oda should just go for it. "SCREW THE RULES, I HAVE MONEY! =P"
Volume 60 SHOULD have 585 - 597, no doubt. It would be an amazing volume and no doubt continue the epic first print record / first week sale record run.
-
I was curious - about when are the covers usually released?
-
I hope and, to a certain degree, think Volume 60 will end with Ch. 597. I definitely think Oda would want it this way and he'll be able to push it through, even if it'll cost a little more.
Still, volume 45 and 52 come to mind.
-
Not only would I like it if they put those 13 chapters in volume 60, but that would just be nice in general because then I could tell people part 1 of one piece is the first 60 volumes

that's true, and I thought of 52 and 53 already. But since this is expected (by me, too) to be a big break, I still think there's a better chance that 60 will end with 597.
Still not a guarantee, but I think there's somewhat of a chance.
-
Well, just about a month left until volume 60 comes out, so I thought we could bring this topic up again.
I'm still really hoping for Chapter 585 - 597 to be in volume 60. This way Part I can be volumes 1 - 60 and Part II can be volumes 61 - 120
=)
-
I think it will be Chapter 585-594…
-
I think it will be Chapter 585-594…
I think it has a chance of having up to 597. It's being released together with Green, which I'm sure will go up to chapter 597, so maybe they'll want them to go together.
-
Oh shit. I forgot I made this topic….facepalm
-
I feel it would make a lot of sense to have a 13 chapter volume up to chapter 597.
It would kinda be weird if volume 61 had 2 chapters- timeskip- then the other 8 chapters or so.
For the cover: young Luffy, Ace and Sabo running around with thier metal poles in the foreground with the Dadan family in the background. -
Volume title: Spectrum. Chapters: 585-597 Cover: Young Luffy, Ace, Sabo and Dadan. Hopefully the Straw Hats somewhere too. I definitely think it'll have 13 chapters, just this once. Given the five week break and everything, it's obvious this is a special occation.
-
I agree…I definitely think volume 60 will have chapters 585 - 597
-
So volume 60 is coming out tomorrow and we still don't have a picture of the cover?
-
It's out next month, not tomorrow.
-
Ah so it's on the 4th next month, sorry for not paying enough attention.
-
hmm…..
just checked the schedule for november:
http://www.s-manga.net/newcomic/index201011.html
It looks like One Piece Vol 60 will cost 420 yen which is the normal price for a volume.
When a Volume exceeds a certain page count it costs more
So I would say the chance that Volume 60 will go till chapter 597 is pretty slim -
dang…...you know what would suck? If it were a 9-chapter volume like 55, 46, 35, and other older ones.
-
Title: Efforts Toward Glory
Cover: Young Luffy, Ace, and Sabo in the fore front with Dadan and Captain Bluejam in the back
Volume Colour: Orange (something in the sunset hues) -
I'm throwing money down on the title being "3D2Y."
-
I'm throwing money down on the title being "3D2Y."
Probably not, seeing as how that specific chap is 13 chapters down the road.
At the most, vol. 60's gonna top out at 11 chapters (595's Oath), if that.

Oda's got some weight what with his series selling like crazy and in the past he said he got publishers to make data books as cheap as possible…maybe this one time he got them to make an exception and not charge the extra 50 cents or whatever difference the extra pages would cost. I really don't see any other way to naturally end volume 60 and start volume 61.
I mean....he always emphasized how he wanted extra pages to be a gift to his fans. Maybe with the extremely high sales of 56, 57, 58, and 59 taken into account he could have persuaded the publishers to put out the thicker volume at normal price.
-
dont say that, it WILL be 13 chapters.
-

I really hope it does…....598 just ain't half as climactic showing up in the MIDDLE of a volume!!!
-
I don't know…it's not looking good if that price sticks. I'll cross my fingers though...
-
I think we can expect a cover for Volume 60 later this month.
-
I'm curious to see if the sales will suffer any drop now that the war is over! Maybe it'll even rise, who knows

I doubt it severely. Admittedly, having 3 extra chapters crammed into a volume for the same price would almost GUARANTEE that it would sell better than any other manga volume in history, but the publishers probably care too much about precedent even if Oda takes some of the cuts in price out of his own share.
-
I think is possible volume 60 will have 13 chapters so that volume 61 begins in the "Second part", after all the last volume of DB had like 240 pages so why not spoil the biggest manga seller ever with this kind of threatment?
-

You don't seem to understand at all. Oda IS ALLOWED TO PUT 13 CHAPTERS INTO THIS VOLUME. However, the publishers will, if asked to do this, RAISE THE PRICE. Oda loves his fans, and doesn't want the price of his tankoubon to be too high for kids (he has stated this). Toriyama, on the other hand, I can totally see not caring if his fans have to pay more for the last volume of Dragon Ball, as they're a bunch of bastards that made him continue a fighting manga that he wanted to be a comedy manga.
-
At the same time…I think holding this back to 10 chapters would be more of a disservice to fans than it would be a benefit. To not do the time skip neatly is just...wrong imo.
It's only like 50 cents extra isn't it? He really cares THAT MUCH about a few cents? I mean, heck if I were in Oda's position, I would just put an apology in the front of the volume for a sliiiiightly higher price. That's exactly what Kishimoto did for volume 43 of Naruto.

I doubt it's only 50 yen for 3 chapters. a 30% increase in tankoubon length for for <20% increase in price would be a great deal, and Oda knows that, certainly. But it would have been 50 yen more to include an eleventh chapter per volume, even for volumes that had a few less-than-19-page chapters (is what it sounded like). That means he was probably factoring in an increase of like… 15~16 pages, max. Who knows how much it would be for 57 more pages in a volume? 60 if he made a post-chapter page for each volume, which he might need to do to get all of the two-page spreads on the correct pages (I didn't thoroughly check this when I bought Jump in Japan, but I think they always started One Piece on the left, unless it opened with a two-page spread? >.> which would mean that every 19-page chapter needs a filler page after it unless it is followed by a spread on the next cover)
-
Well, Naruto volume 43 is 3 chapters longer than normal (13 chapters) and only costs 30 yen more than a normal volume. 450 yen vs. 420 yen.
Naruto 43 is 248 pages for 450 yen btw.
-
Which is now completely irrelevant.
=(

Volume 60 is only 216 pages. Sorry Oda, but I am very , very disappointed.
Such a terrible way to end volume 60 and terrible way to start volume 61. Oda's holding to that "no volumes over 420 yen" rule waaaaay too rigidly to sacrifice the quality of the volumes =/
I mean…a one time exception was not okay to make a clean break for the time skip? Lame
-
How unfortunate. Looks like Oda's willingness to give use as many chapters as possible to draw out his story has bit us in the ass again. It's Volume 52 all over again.
Ah well.
-
Aw man… that's awful...
... My prediction was wrong...
EDIT: There's always the Kanzenbans. See you in twenty years!
