Then, how about we come to the conclusion, to each his own.
Its one thing to enjoy a bad movie if you're knowingly enjoying a bad movie. I have a fondness for Last Action Hero, and I liked G.I. Joe for instance. (It helped that I saw it for free and with a bunch of friends.) But I have no desire to ever see it a second time, it was incredibly stupid, and if they'd just based it off the Larry Hama comics, it could have been a thousand times better.
Mostly its the phrase "It's a good action film. That's all I cared about." that sets me off, because SO many people use that to excuse movies being bad or horrible directors doing entire strings of shitty movies. Nothing about your personal taste, its just a widespread thing.
Its how we've ended up with Scary Movie, Superhero Movie, Meet the Spartans, etc. people accept less.
there's a guy in the office, drives me crazy with his love for terrible movies, that he admits are bad.
I hate it, because the end result is, more terrible movies and tv shows get made, and less good ones, and that DOES affect me personally. When the lowest common denominator dictates what gets madeā¦ just... blargh.
Robby.
I used the Citizen Kane analogy cuz I'm kind of an anal film buff.
I blame being raised in a Video Store to the point where my life actually mirrors Dante from Clerks.
Everyone uses the Citizen Kane analogy. And I can't figure out why. Casablanca and Godfather is a really high watermark too. Nobody ever (realistically) goes to see a movie expecting one of the 10 greatest films of all time. But it just seems like a stupid thing to say. "Well yeah, its not even remotely as good as it could try to be and insults my intelligence, but I accept the fact that its bad because I just want to see explosions. That's hollywood for you."
there can be good action AND good plot/characterization, they aren't mutually exclusive, and I hate that so many people just give up on and support half hearted efforts.
