I'm starting to think that Toei doesn't even know that they're dragging out these episodes and realizing that using less than one chapter isn't good. What are they thinking?
462: ''The Power to Destroy the World! The Power of the Quake Quake Fruit''
-
-
I'm starting to lose my faith in Toei now. I'm not really gonna get my hopes up anymore about the war now…
-
They most likely screwed the pooch on pacing because of the breaks Oda takes to care for his daughter.
Honestly they should just not air the show that week, but the ratings they pull in are probably worth showing shit for.
-
Wow, I gotta say, Mihawk's new seiyu is pretty good^^. Making Mihawk sound younger than he is actually made him more epic^^. Also, Tashigi fans please forgive me, but this episode just made me think, MY GOD! HOW MANY TIMES DOES SMOKER HAVE TO SAVE YOUR SWORD OTAKU ASS!?, also, I DON'T WANNA KNOW ANY INFO ABOUT MIHAWK'S SWORD! IT'S BIG!, IT'S BLACK!, IT CUTS EPIC SHIT UP! THAT'S ALL I NEED TO KNOW TOEI! Too bad for you Vista, Zoro already has you beat for the best swordsman in the world hunt^^.
-
The war lost all sense of urgency and chaos for the first two-thirds of the episode.
For those who haven't watched it, you'd be better off just watching the last seven or so minutes…seriously. -
How the hell does Squardo not bite his tongue off!?
-
He started the tsunami last episode, it took 15 minutes for the tsunami to actually get there. There is slow pacing to help the manga, and then there is just SLOW~ pacing. This episode was the latter. Im just glad the animation quality was better this time around.
-
Well, to be honest, that episode was kinda disappointing because not even Jozu appeared when it was like 2 seconds from the scene where he protects WhiteBear from Mihawk's attack.
The animation was nice but the pacing was very slow. Whitebeard's tsunami didn't begin to make it's real effects until the second half of the episode.
Also, is Mihawk taking a step forward really something to make everyone edgy? When Mihawk was preparing to slash everyone started to coment on how he was so awesome and frightening.
-
A decent episode, the beginning dragged a bit as others have already said, but i did like seeing all the commanders jump right into battle, and when those first gunshots signaled the fight had begun it was like a breath of fresh air. I wish mihawks sword slash wasnt drug out like that though, everyone had time to stop stare and reflect at him before he did anything, it was so much more dynamic and unexpected when he did it in the manga which worked better since everyone was caught off guard. I look forward to next weeks though
-
Poorly paced episode this was >_<
-
This is suppose to be a massive-scale battle between 100,000 marines and at least a few thousands pirates.. and yet all we see is a few cannon blasts and 4-5 fodders fighting. This is just horrible. They could've at least used the time they wasted with Buggy and add more shots to show how big the war is.
Now I expect to see everyone's reaction shot every time any shichibukai starts using power…
-
I didn't actually get bored while watching it, but I do agree the pacing was terrible. This episode would take like 4 minutes of footage in a "One Piece Kai" episode.
-
That's Funi's simulicast, not everyone can use that.
that's right

Oh my fucking God! The first half of the episode was complete and utter horse shit. Dull filler, still shots, and horrible pacing.
When the war finally started, I almost cried tears of joy.
The fights were good and the animation was good, but once again we get another shitty cliffhanger.
Mihawk's VA sounds really good. Almost on par with the original. This war is going to be disappointing. Can someone send a letter to Toei and tell them to fix their shitty pacing?
I've lost all hope.
-
I Knew I Would Be Utterly Dissaapionted With The New Episode
-
How the hell does Squardo not bite his tongue off!?
rofl I was thinking the same thing….
especially since his teeth are like shark teeth :P -
I think next episode is going to be a lot better.
There's gonna be good animators.
The preview shows Akainu doing something, so even though barely anything was covered this episde, next episode is going to be filled with goodies. My predictions as to what cliffhanger will be next week.
! I doubt next week's cliffhanger will be bad. It'll either be
! Like this week's episode but with Akainu attacking.
Whitebeard snuffing out Akainu's attack.
The appearance of Oars.
! And since Akainu's name is the focus of the chapter I'm assuming his attack will be somewhere in the middle of the episode. Horrible pacing could win out though.
! Either way this is going to at least cover another chapter, but this chapter has 3 excellent reveals which will probably be handled really well. -
Well, I knew this arc was going to be paced slowly, so that it doesn't catch up with the manga, but damn that was slow. 11mins just for a tidal wave… damn. Hopefully it gets better, even if theyre doing one chapter at a time...
-
Pretty terrible episode but seeing Mihawk at the end made it worth it.
-
They cant show luffy again for a while, so maybe that one was the last "filler filler".
Anyway, yeah the first half was bad, blah blah blah
But the second half was really good, if toei manage to fill showing the figths of the new world captain and the vicealmirants from time to time, then perhaps there is still hope(this time at least worked well) -
Cliffhanger at next ep will be Akainu and Whitebeard having their little banter.
(one wonders how they can hear eachother without shouting that distance…)
-
sigh at least its not as bad as last week…....oh well i get to see moria so i guess its ok
-
I didn't mind it at all. Then again I'm currently rewatching the Alabasta arc and find this a very welcome change. (If not for Crocodile it'd be my most hated arc)
I found myself skipping the Ace/WB memories (seriously, showing it again after doing so last episode? Lazy!) Didn't mind the Luffy parts too much (lol at Iva and the door-mark ^.^ Also, kind of sick of the pirates around Buggy - not Buggy himself so much) and the rest was pretty good in my opinion.
I don't know why people are so disappointed with it - the war is only just starting, there's not going to be any epic fights right off the bat. The part with the tsunami was fine - they don't just appear out of no-where and it makes sense to have it build up like that. (I prefer a slow build at the start of epicness - and it kinda didn't really fit with me in the manga that a tsunami just APPEARED)
As for the Mihawk reactions - they were pretty cool. Mihawk (or at least what I've noticed of his character) seems to be pretty laid back, usually doing things only if he's bored (ie - Don Kreig). I get the feeling he tends to let the others do things first and just goes with the flow. (What is it with lazy marine/ally characters? Really? ^.^) So the fact that he's the first of the Shichibukai to step forward would probably cause a reaction.
(Also, is it just me or does Kizaru seem to have a perpetually surprised look on his face?)
The next episode looks like it'll be pretty good, too. I'm looking forward to it, for sure. ^.^ -
This is suppose to be a massive-scale battle between 100,000 marines and at least a few thousands pirates.. and yet all we see is a few cannon blasts and 4-5 fodders fighting. This is just horrible. They could've at least used the time they wasted with Buggy and add more shots to show how big the war is.
Now I expect to see everyone's reaction shot every time any shichibukai starts using power…
That's what bothered me the most too. Oh well, at least the fights were cool and animated well.
-
Ah this arc is going to consist of people bitching about pacing again isn't it? The thing is they can't cover too much since they're so close and they can't add tons of filler fights because you just can't animate non-stop action for 6 months and keep a level of quality up. There's simply isn't enough time or money for it, something's got to give. So yeah expect a lot of still shots and people reacting to random shiz.
The thing I'm going to be focusing on is whether or not they do the individual scenes and moments justice. I'd rather sit through half an episode of buggy being useless, how annoying that may be than five minutes of Jimbei throwing one punch. Drag it out all you can but don't ruin a perfectly good action scene. Action needs to be fast paced and well animated the second half of this episode lived up to my expectations in that regard.
-
I woke up, finally, and watched the episode.
The first half was a little too slow. Then, it started to get nice. The Vice-Admirals scene was nice, but I really didn't like Akainu's and Mihawk's voice. Don't know why. (speaking of voices Yamakaji finally talked. And don't know why, but when I watched that scene with him, Tsuru and Comil (?) I laughed: "Hey, Tsuru-san, stand back, you don't wanna get hurt! Have a tea instead" I seriously waited for Tsuru to smash those two while saying: "Shut up kids!") Speaking of Vice admirals, why the hell they draw two normal eyes for Doberman? Well at least, he doesn't have that stupid extra shadow anymore.Squard looked hilarious, is he supposed to be scary? And it's a miracle that he didn't bite his tongue off.
Aokiji was awesome. Like that scene. And I laughed when the marines said: "Hey, we got the admirals, what do we afraid of?"
We all have to thank Tashigi for that really interesting info of the sword. Hell, I know it's a pretty good one, but I don't want to watch a sword for like 2 minutes.
My last thought is, I mentioned it before, in the anime, the war is too bright. Literally. In the manga, it felt a lot darker, like the sun isn't shining, it's just darkness and all. It would help if there was a great storm of something.
-
Hahaha at them hyping up Failhawk.
-
Episode wasn't that good for me especially the beginning. Art was pretty bad also.
I did like how they hyped Mihawk a bit though. I kinda think oda did a poor job at that. As a potential manga end foe Mihawk needs lots of hype.
Next week looks pretty good.
-
Why would they show us reaction shots of Kizaru? Kizaru reacts the same way to everything.
-
Liked the episode especially that we learned about Mihawk's Black Sword (that isn't mentioned in the manga is it?).
Though I am disappointed that the anime messes with the great cliffhangers from the manga -_- -
This is the worst episode of one piece I think I have ever watched. Reading up a bit I guess I am not alone in thinking the directing of this episode utterly did it in.

Well the episode was OK in my eyes but the Mihawk hype was a bit shitty.
Bla Bla stongest swordsman and so on… And the whoe world is shaking... Isn't Shanks a swordsmen as well?

Ugh, it's a cringey thought that TOEI get paid for creating episodes like this.
-
and once again..for the third episode in a row since the war started…........notihng exciting at all has happened
fuckkkkkthissssss
-
But I will lol hard… Next week after the hype Mihawk got this episode he will fail in the first minute...

You're wrong.
Make it seven minutes, they'll stretch it out for sure. >_>

Yeah could be but I hope after the failure we will see Moria Kishishiing him
-
even i found the buggy part stupid , i maybe smiled one time and then i just wanted that they went back to the war goddamnit
still aokiji part was nice to see
not a great nor a bad episode
-
Yeah Aokiji part was awesome
-
Haha, is anyone else slightly annoyed by Ace's numerous guttural "kuh" sounds?
Sounds like he's constipated. -
The war has been pretty damn disappointing so far. Like others, I thought the shittiness of Impel Down was a sacrifice for the awesomeness of Marineford.
My bro is less disappointed only because he hasn't read the comic. Still shots, albeit lazy, CAN help build suspense, but only work when you don't know what's coming next.
-
Liked the episode especially that we learned about Mihawk's Black Sword (that isn't mentioned in the manga is it?).
We learned it in the yellow data book.
About the pacing, well it's sure the beginning was a bit slow, but for me it was to show the rising tension before the start of the war (the calm before the storm). And once the was has starting, things has speed up.
-
Ugh. They ruined whyat shoulda been a great episode. Dragging it out that long with crappy fillers and Mihawk ass-kissing.
His attack looked pretty cool though.
Next episode looks awesome, can't wait to see Marco's DF ability in action…thats totally gonna be my new avatar or siggy.. -
damn first half really was draggy.. WTF
skipped the buggy part..
i had high hopes for this episode but damn, they ruined teh first half >_<
fuuuuuuuuuuuui like buggy in manga, but in anime he is just annoying
-
How do you ruin the epicness of WB's Tsunami summoning?
They all stared googly eyes at one another till the waves came 5+ minutes later. That is canon Bleach nonsense. Anime made Ursa Shock go off like a spirit bomb but the strongest man in the world's power completely underwhelming.
They messed up Aokiji getting shattered and his landing. Angle was all skewed and he landed as Ice instead of reforming just before hitting water and instant nuking the entire place.
Even fucked up the Division Commander dismount where we weren't even sure in the manga who were the commanders exactly were because they're were quite a few badasses in the bunch. Not DC and a bunch of grunts getting mauled.
Zoro slicing canonballs and owning soldiers during Enies lobby>>>the vice admirals coming out. They even manage to ruin Vista's future introduction by Mihawk himself with Tashigi trying to get a piece. Vista comes off sounding like a mihawk fanboy. I didn't even like Mihawk's slash. Instead of a giant pound cannon it looks like a DBZ energy blast.
-
I like how we're getting tiny little expansions like Tashigi monologue. Pretty sweet and everything I was hoping for.

One Piece 462 has been released and is entitled "The Power to Destroy the World! The Ability of the Quake Quake Fruit".```

lol, there was a time when all the bitching about the new episode would have annoyed me…that was before I ever read the manga. It's a lot easier going into a scene with no expectations then really hoping what you see on the screen matches the awesomeness of what you saw in your head when you originally ingested the material. I long for the days before I read manga.
