Why does that even matter? I'm talking about appreciating and enjoying something, not what makes something the author's original intent.
Your lack of faith in author vision disturbs me.

You guys really should stop using arguments like the above (and its variant "Derp derp, you don't have imagination, so you can't follow images")
What. I gave a legitimate reason to prefer the anime over the manga. I'm sure a blind fan would appreciate it more.
I don't hold it against anyone to like the anime. I watched a ton of it, and own a ton of it, the movies especially. But I can't even begin to agree to any argument that its as good as the source. Its got color, music, voices and movement in its favor, but still falls short in the way that matters most… the storytelling.
Oda's average throw away title page color spread has more imagination, characterization, backstory and thought in it than anything the anime comes up with for entire filler arcs.
If the Anime was well animated and had good pacing, it would be better than the Manga, because if that was true, it would pick what the Manga had and it would had good elements to it
Would you still use this type of arguments if it was like that?
If it included every detail in the manga, (from stuff as big as the cover stories being intact to stuff as small as nuances like Usopp's silhouette being in Zoro's wanted poster) didn't edit content, had consistent good animation quality, had no horrendous filler (with characters out of character and plot inconsistencies) AND good pacing? (2 or 3 chapters covered in every episode) Sure, there'd be a potential debate there.
But it'll never happen.
So its a moot "what if" statement.
@JERK:
Your lack of faith in author vision disturbs me.
Oh my god forgot it you just don't get what I'm saying, as mentioned above this argument is pointless so I'm done anyway.
It wouldn't make it better, there is a simple difference of medium. And assuming animation/sound/color are better inherently then a black and white comic is stupid.
Well done black&white penmanship is a great thing, and Oda does it.

Naw, nigga you were brushing that aside like it didn't matter.

A cover version can be better than the original of course.
But unfortunately the one piece anime is like a britney spears cover of a classic.
Opinions are opinions, you may like a manga or an anime more than another, but saying that the anime is better than the manga, well…if you have ever read more than one manga (not just OP, but many others) and you've seen their animated correspondants, you'd understand how huge the difference between the two things is.

The point of the statement is that saying stuff like "You guys don't need sound to understand the story" is dumb, because a manga that would integrate sound is obviously nice
The person you were quoting never said that it was 100% necessary to understand the story, just that its nice, and can you really disagree with him?

Why?
This may end up going to a opinion discussion, but IMO, even Berserk, a manga that bases itself almost entirely on that great penmanship you speak about, would be better if it was properly animated

Interesting would be more accurate. If you really don't get it, go back to what Greg said about Calvin and Hobbes.
Why?

Berserk is pretty much the worst support you could have brought in for this given it's immaculate pen work.
I don't care that you understand this. All you need to know is yes, people prefer simpler mediums sometimes.
I mean what do you think of the book/movie comparison? Do you immediatly assume live action and sound is inherently better then the text?

And if a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump its ass when it hopped.
I wonder if someone here thinks that what toei or whoever is responsible for the animation of one piece created can be compared to the level of animation in you brain while reading the manga.
Ask everyone knowing what animation is if this anime isn't poorly done. How can so many enjoy so much crap. It's simply mindblowing how much power the brain filters have.
Yeah, that really confuses me too. People honestly talk it up like it's OVA quality. Or even Feature quality.
To be frank the animation in most of the OP Features doesn't impress me either.

I consider it different, for a very simple reason
A movie needs to be 3 hours long, maximum of the maximum, while the source material may be 1000 pages long
No such problem with the Manga, in fact, the opposite, the Anime has more (unwanted and dragged out) content than the Manga, in this particular case
@robbybedfart:
And if a frog had wings, it wouldn't bump its ass when it hopped.
And thus, the frog disagrees with me
This is my final word on this nonsense.

I don't agree, and I will take one example: some gags. I notices that I laugh nearly anytime when Nami hits Luffy, but strangely those gags don't make me laugh in the anime.
The reason is very simple, it's because they can't be animated, I mean, in the manga you read one page, at the end, Luffy says or do something dumb, and when you turn the page you see Nami angry and Luffy with lots of bump on his head. In the anime, you will see Nami rushing towards Luffy and giving him lots of hit. That's probably funny, but you're missing the spontaneity, and so a part of the gags is lost because of the animation.
Somethings are not made to be adapted. You might think it's only just details, but you should remember that details are the main differences between something good and something excellent.
This is my final word on this nonsense.

Pictures are fun when an argument is stupid. When an argument is valid, they're an incredibly cheap way to try and avoid making a real point, with evidence and backup and reasoning.

That can be also translated very well on Anime
Azumanga Daioh, for example
God, I know I sound such a loser by admitting I watched Azumanga Daioh, but in my defense, its funny not in the loser pervert kind of way
This is my final word on this nonsense.

Righto.
It doesn't even make sense in context

And ultimately the guy calling for bannings did nothing but whine and post horribly while everyone else actually talked about the thing.
intelligent discourse
Dude there hasn't been any intelligent discourse in this thread for about five pages now.
But its ok, because as an anime fan, I'm apparently mentally retarded anyway woohoo!

Azumanga Daioh is a rare exception where the anime actually did it perfecty, and in a lot of cases, enhanced the comedy. Plus it was superbly animated throughout, bringing a higher level of art quality than the actual strip had, and nailed the comic timing consistently. It had every detail and every joke of the comic, and then some.
Format has a lot to do with, as it was a largely undetailed gag strip for starters, and they weren't trying to make one page=2 minutes, and they only had so many episodes. They did the joke as long as it needed to be, and if they had an idea that enhanced it, they enhanced it. (The wake up the teacher sequence with the knife is a great example.) And again, a FANTASTIC grasp of comedic timing, including how long to leave pauses or moments of silence, or when to get really quiet or whatnot.
Plus, the studio is smart enough to NOT do a Yotsuba anime, because they know that it'd be impossible to adapt the pacing and mood of the comic.

Man, stop that if you want JD to be banned one day. You're really losing all your credibility.

There's been plenty but since it doesn't agree with your opinions, you've disregarded it.
Which is pretty childish but there we go.

You are damn right that being called 'not a TRUE One Piece fan' because I enjoy the anime, disagrees with my opinions.
That's some bullshit and you know it!

I always hated this kind of elitism among fanbases
Still, you didn't make any good point what so ever

No, you've just shown your inability to read again and again.

My point is that One Piece, if adapted perfectly, would be better than the Manga, because it would only add on the Manga
And my point is, it isn't adapted perfectly, and there's so much nuance and detail and length to the series, that it'll never happen. Since its an impossible pipe dream, theres not really much to discuss.
Plus again, Azumangah Diaoh had VERY simple art with no shading or backgrounds or real continuity or fight scenes to mess with. It was way, way, WAY less complicated to adapt.
Adapting Charlie Brown perfectly isn't the same as adapting the Bible.
But then aren't you agreeing with my main point?
My point is that One Piece, if adapted perfectly, would be better than the Manga, because it would only add on the Manga
I haven't read or watched Azumanga Daioh, but from the wiki search it is not only a lot shorter than One Piece, but is finished. One Piece would never get that experience.
Even if they did something like a One Piece Kai, it wouldn't be anytime soon nor would it have the crisp animation because they'd likely just reuse most from the original source. Not to mention some of the voice actors are getting really old now.
And it's been mentioned tons already but wow @dan2026
You are damn right that being called 'not a TRUE One Piece fan' because I enjoy the anime, disagrees with my opinions.

Who's using these word? I've only seen that from you.
Another Frank Grimes to my Homer lol.
what i love is the need that manga worshippers feel to come into the ANIME section and bash anime viewers

I'm not arguing that Toei will ever do (or caring about doing, for that matter) a perfect translation
I was answering to this:
@robbybedfart:
I am a blind man, and the manga isn't printed in braile. So I need the audio of the voices and the sound effects to follow the story.
what i love is the need that manga worshippers feel to come into the ANIME section and bash anime viewers
This all stemmed from a discussion on whether the movie is canon or not.
Go back and actually read it before whispering snide nothings and making incorrect accusations.

Well Sammsy, after your very own incursions into the manga discussions with filler it's only a matter of time before the borders lose their meaning isn't it.

yea i know, but let them if they want.

In case you didn't notice… You react to things that were never said.
Oh and sammsy also wants to join the list.
You know I'm not even sure what the argument is anymore.
Can't anime and manga lovers just live in peace?
Who am I kidding its the internet!
what i love is the need that manga worshippers feel to come into the ANIME section and bash anime viewers
Who the hell is bashing the anime viewers? I've seen plenty of "the anime isn't as good as the manga BECAUSE" arguments, followed with facts and reasons.
The only response to which has been "motion and sound make the anime better"… which doesn't mean anything compared to the STORY.
Mostly I see people bringing it upon themselves and claiming they're being attacked, when its only in their minds that a discussion of the anime versus manga is personal.
You know I'm not even sure what the argument is anymore.

…except when they screw up and something they did comes back to bite them when oda proves otherwise.

You mean like sanji acting as if the okama's had affected him on an emotional level.
