At least I think this is a virus. Anytime I restart my PC I get this window that says "Generic host process for win32 has encountered a problem, and needs to close." And I can't go anywhere on google, because it redirects me to different websites. So it's really hard to find help. And if I click debug on the error message, or anything that makes it go away, none of my progams will open.
Virus help.

Sadly, no..It says that the problem is only for SP2, but I have SP3, and I cannot download any of those updates.

Okay Then, How About These!

I think that's the thing I always used to get on my old computer… - a dialog box pops up and does the problem noise yeah?
I never figured out how it got sorted, think my Dad did something in the end.But here's some proper advice - since the specific problem is to do with a Process, you want to go into your Task Manager and locate 'Win32' under the 'processes' tab - try deleting it (ending it) and that might make the box go away, or else (more logically lol) actually start it by going to "start process" and typing in "Win32.exe" - hopefully this could help you.

Ummm… no. The process Generic Host is actually contained within the library of processes named svchost. Therefore, the solution you listed would not be possible.
Any solution short of reinstalling windows would be to edit the registry, which I am not really competent at, that's why you should wait for Fire Fist, he is good with computers...

Nah, im here.

Okay kido, here it is.
Your most likely infected with a virus….scratch that.....a rootkit even. This isn't a simple download, click this box and restart and your fixed deal.
I am going to need a full log from HiJackthis in order to help you.
The "Generic Host Process" error comes from this infection. The problem is that you are going to have difficulty navigating through the web...the longer you wait, the less chances and the more work that needs to be done to save your current OS. I wouldn't even backup your stuff because these rootkits can get into external devices like you wouldn't believe. They are nasty little fuckers. I deal with this shit all the time.
First I recommend trying to reboot your machine into Safe-Mode with networking....by the grace of God you will be able to not only boot into it but also be able to navigate…if not then you have a couple of solutions.
(Some PC Nerd wannabe is going to suggest your "hosts" file...ignore the retard who does mmmk?)
When going to websites by typing in the URL manually shouldnt redirect you to bullshit sites...you can even go to Google.com and perform a search...when the results come up just dont click the link, rather at the bottom of each search result there is a text version of the URL...copy and paste it and you MIGHT get to the sites...otherwise get yourself a USB Flash drive that you care not about and another machine with internet access just so you can get these specific applications.
First thing I would go for is:
~~I recommend using all of these tools in safemode with networking if possible.~~Smitfraudfix - This is a command line tool that get's rid of many rogue agents as well as some common rootkit virus. Download it, open it, perform a scan and clean.
Roguefix - This is very similar to Smitfraudfix and works well with it. Download it, open it, scan and clean.
ComboFix - This is one of my most favorite tools. Its like the above 2, but way more aggressive and deadly. This will more than likely render the rootkit handicapped, allowing you to sly and sneak and attack the rootkit by other means (Common Scanners i.e. Spyware Doctor, Kapersky, Housecall).
And of course, good ol' MBAM! A.k.a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware **should be used last after a nice reboot.I recommend using all of these tools in safemode with networking if possible.**There are ALOT more tools that can definitely help you in this situation but I will not recommend any more until I get that log from Hijackthis.
Unfortunately it may already be too late and the rootkit will attach itself to any application that opens. You might need to take a deep breath and reformat your whole machine…remember...you can get ANY application back…just not personal files.
There is a way to save these personal files....and ill only instruct you if you have tried all the solutions I have given and will give if you choose to trust my advice. Up to you my friend.
Need credentials from me? They are available upon request.
