Definitely more polished and refined than what we've seen before.

Well, we know what the quality of the music will be.

Whoa sonic goes to Mcdonaldland?
On another note, I've always enjoyed sonic the most on handhelds for some reason (Sega Nomad!), and unless something new happened while I was asleep, I'm sad that there's no upcoming sonic games for DS. :/ -

-
I hope they take some notes from sonic 4, which(physics wise) seems to be finally going in the right direction.
-
I liked the look of it from the video above. Why Sonic 4 part 1 though? I know that means different parts will be released.
-
Those levels look incredibly pretty, I'll give them that. Tho the apparent course layout, what Sonic is doing, and the camera (if such things can be judged from stills) all look incredibly the same as the past nine 3-D Sonic games, so… no hopes on that end.
Looooong thin path with walls on both sides and no exploration potential? Speed booster to zoom you along said narrow path? Auto-rails? Camera pull out for 2-d in the automated section? Long periods of air time where you have no real control over what you're doing? Got it.
Yet again a racing game pretending that its a platformer.
Cloudy with Meatballs Land is kind of WTF.
-
Yeah I see your point Robby. That kind of reminded me of Rayman a little bit.
-
I'm up to date on Sonic Colours.
Yeah, call me jaded, but I've seen nothing that suggests this game is going to be anything different from what we've been getting for years. Which has been either complete mediocrity or full blown garbage.
Oh yeah, the music in that Sonic Colors trailer was damn terrible.
-
Sonic Colors looks like it's going to be serious eye candy rape. Which isn't a bad thing.
I like Hamburgerland.
-
Okay, the game looks nice. I'll give it that. It brings to mind Eggmanland from Sonic Unleashed.
-
Is it wrong that I think some of the food in those pictures look fucking delicious?
I've always loved 'candylands' in video games.
-
This post is deleted!
-
This video actually looks pretty good? Must not.. get hyped…
...
Fuck it, Sonic's back! -
It looks like the day stages of Sonic Unleashed.
-
Wow, that looks like a pretty good game. The only thing that has me worried are some possible cheap insta-deaths from that burrow power.
-
Yep, it looks very fun and very fast. But its gonna be extremely stiff and Sonic isnt gonna be able to move very fluently. I have yet to see "Drift" or Light speed dash which kinda worries me.
But the game looks like Insta-death's will happen quite often. :/
Oh and i dont hear Griffith…:( -
It looks like Hamburger Time for Sonic…

Fuck it, Sonic's back! This is a joke, right?
-
Sonic Colors is on both Wii and DS? Why does that not give me much hope for the quality of either game? :/
-
1UP said the DS version of Sonic Colors is akin to the Sonic of old.
-
A lot of journalists think Rush is akin to the Sonic of old.
So I wouldn't get that excited just yet.
-
Rush was at least fun to play. Until the jet-ski crap.
-
I didn't have fun with it.
Too much memorisation required because of the floaty controls and poor level design.
It looks like they may have finally fixed the physics in the latest build of sonic 4 though. At least I can no longer tell it's wrong just by looking at a video, which is more then I can say for the rush games. Hopefully this will carry over to this colour game
-
Only memorisation I really needed with Rush was the part on Altitude Limit where the grind rails end in spikes.
-
I'd cite examples but I stopped playing them both a week after I bought them and have no wish to repeat the experience.
-

Considering all the other crap Sonic games and glitches, a few accidental deaths from spike pits didn't make me hate it that much.
We need a Sonic Advance 4, though. Unless there was one, and I'm not aware of it.
-
That's the thing with sonic, some of the games were so dire that now average is enough for people. Mediocrity has become the high point of the series in recent years.
At least sega are actually improving sonic 4 right now, until I saw that video I thought them full of crap.
Can't comment on advance as I've never played any of them.
-
Say what you will, it didn't stop me from enjoying a good game.
-
Advance was generally pretty decent. They had a few features that were a bit annoying, including a mid-air dash that you had to master to get past certain stages.
Sonic Advance 3 was one of my favorites. You could pick from the five selectable character (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream). And after you pick your one, you can add another character that will follow you like Tails, but with added powers.
My general favorite team was Tails and Amy. I could fly with a giant mallet in my hands.
SA had some great stage designs. I loved the music themed one.
-
I said it before, I'll say it again. The Advance Games are absolute middle of the road whateverness.
-
What do you think of Sonic Colours so far?
-
It will suck probably.
They haven't done 3D right for over a decade, why would this one be any different? -
Just found out Sonic Adventure (for the DC) is going to come to the XBLA…with "enhanced graphics", surround sound (or some shit like that) and online leaderboards....
Errr....yeah.
-
Sonic Adventure is not a good game.
-
@JERK:
Sonic Adventure is not a good game.
Your damn right about that one Jerk.
-
@JERK:
I said it before, I'll say it again. The Advance Games are absolute middle of the road whateverness.
Such is why I never really finished any of them except 3. They usually felt tedious.
-
Sonic Adventure's controls suck, it has lame characters, terrible voice acting, mostly dumb music, the character models are as stiff as stone even compared to Mario 64, it started everything wrong with 3D Sonic and yet dingles give it a free pass for no reason except nostolgia.

How bad is X to Spin dash, A to jump and…..Thats it! Press A twice and Sonic hits someone, tails flies for a few seconds as well as knuckles. Its not that bad. Camera in SA is terrible its all over the place and often gets stuck. The Models were fine, voice acting was a Lulfest though and absolutely terrible.
I agree Voice acting was terrible too. I dont like Drummond or really any pre-4kids Sonic voice actors doing sonic roles except E-102 Gamma. Finally the music was fine i loved "Open your heart" and the other tracks were fine as well.
Not a great game but certainly good.
As for lame characters ill agree. E-102 was shit, Amy was useless, and Big is well Big. But Sonic,Knuckles and Tails were good enough.
-
Sonic Adventure isn't good even by the standards of it's time.
And the models were pretty flawed as far as animation goes. Eggman's mouth didn't even move for goodness sake. In fact, the art direction in general wasn't very good.
-

ahahhaa, you don't have the slightest clue what the problem is.
That is barely ever what people refer to with "controls".
Sonic fans don't even have a clue what tight controls feel like lol.The Models were fine,
ahahhaha, no they weren't. They look like mannequins, try jumping and look how fucking stiff the models are. Sonic in particular.
There's NO excuse for how tacky they look, Mario in ultra crude 3D mario 64 was better animated. And the way they look in cutscenes when talking is hilariously bad.
Finally the music was fine i loved "Open your heart" and the other tracks were fine as well.
The entire concept of setting Sonic to pop and BITCHIN' RAD rock songs, and Knuckles to rap for whatever reason, is innately lame.
And is a huge part of how wrong at interpreting the tone and attitude of the series has been ever since.
It's the embodiment of Sonic Team trying to turn Sonic into something "cooler and hipper and with the kids" this whole attitude is bad and that music selection is hilariously off mark.As for lame characters ill agree. E-102 was shit, Amy was useless, and Big is well Big. But Sonic,Knuckles and Tails were good enough.
Not anymore! They were cool as silent sprits, then Sega goes and adds lame voices and personalties to them and ruins them plenty.
E-102 was actually the least lame of anyone.

I knew i couldnt escape any kind of criticism, im not mad its actually pretty funny becuase i know the game isnt even that good. People were cardboard cutouts, the city wasnt even a city, the entire cast was terrible to listen to and the camera was abysmal.
Although i loved the music, minus Knuckles. The story was easy to follow. But to me the Super Sonic fight was a let down especially since "Open your Heart" was cut from the 2nd attack run, oddly being replaced with generic "Jaws" killer music, which sucked.
Hated everyones levels except Sonics and the Boss battles were decent.
Although be more specific as to the controls i want to know what you mean….How was E-102 good, c'mon dont think im just being a jackass, help me out.
-
Oh yeah and also slammed Sonic in with being on Earth and people, which was also dumb and unnecessary.
Although be more specific as to the controls i want to know what you mean.
"Tightness" I said it before, don't you know what that means?
With everyone it just felt awkward and a bit floaty, the running felt kind slightly out of control and slippery as well. Precision was absent entirely. And all the usual problems of chaotic clipping and slipping on the environment started here too.
-

Ahhh i see what you mean, its like with "shadow" except X10. The characters would constantly move on a dime to the left or right and usually result in an instant death if you tried to use any physics to move yourself from side to side, right?
To be fair the people played an absolutely 0 role in the game anyway. The first 5 minutes of the game dont count.
-
The problem is at this point, every 3-D Sonic game is a racing game, they just don't admit it.
A racing game with jumps, and a handful of enemies, that requires track memorization, but a racing game all the same.
And the Sonic games that DO admit they're racing games? Rely even more on track memorization. And give you opponents that will beat you to the finish line most of the time, while forcing you do do special moves in order to keep going forward.
Sonic Riders doesn't get nearly enough hatred.
-
@robbybedfart:

That's because nobody played it

The Genesis Sonic games consisted of cartoony animals going through bizarre colorful worlds rather than inappropriate cities filled with non-cartoony humans (which was taken to a really creepy extreme in Sonic 06). The music did not consist of atrocious rock music or rap music (and I'm still wondering why they associated Knuckles with rap music). The overall tone and subject matter wasn't something you'd see in a bad Japanese product like Naruto.
Really, you have to wonder if Sonic Team even remembers what Sonic in his prime truly was.
-
To be fair though I think Mario 64 is a pretty flawed game as well in many respects. It's controls are also kind of awkward here and there, and it too has a shit camera (innovative maybe, but even at the time I found it annoying).
The graphics have….not dated. And for a SNES hound like myself at the time were a huge aesthetic step down that I didn't like, 3D schmeedee. But of course the level design and overall game concept were brilliant, power stars are still one of the most satisfying things to get in any game ever, and it was the first true 3D platformer that established all the norms and proved that flawed or no the genre could work and be amazingly fun.
