I just found out that Disney is planning on releasing two more Hayao Miyazaki movies on DVD in Spring 2006: The recent Howl's Moving Castle, and after being delayed, My Neighbor Totoro is finally being released along with it.

I didn't get to see "Howl's Moving Castle" while it was in theatres. Was it good?

Fairly good, but not as good as Spirited Away. Some would find the story moves a bit slow in the beginning, but it's well worth seeing:laugh:
-
miyasaki's latest movies are ok but not very great… i'm a bit sad about it.
but well my neighbour totoro, what a movie!
-
Howl lost me on the plot, but I still enjoyed the art, voices, etc. I'll probably be buying both these dvds. Definitely Howl and most likely Totoro too ^_^

O__O Wasn't that already done by someone, or are they just re-releasing it? Anway, I WILL get my grubby little hands on a copy. That movie is love.
-
Yeah; it was released a few years ago. But, it had crappy sound and video, and it was only the dub. Disney is re-releasing it. I think it's two discs this time, and the Japanese version is on it, too. It was supposed to be released with Nausicaa and Porco Roso, but they couldn't do a good enough DVD transfer, so they used The Cat Returns in it's place.
-
Alright then, awsome! I hope it has the original dub voices on it though because they're the ones I fell in love with. <3 If it does, then it's a definite buy for me.
-
Well, the official release date is March 7.
And in related news, they added another one on the same day….......
Whisper of the Heart

Whisper of the Heart!!? KICK ASS!!!!!!! fangirl squeeage
I thought they were also releasing Pom Poko with that bunch.

They've already released Pom Poko last year with My Neighbors the Yamamdas. I'm so glad that Ghibli put up a contract so Disney couldn't edit it.
-
so was howl's moving castle under that contract? It just seemed like the story was missing something. I've seen the edited and unedited versions of grave of the fireflies. The few little scenes they took out of GotF made sence when I saw the original. I just wonder if Howl's could be the same way.
As for Totoro, wasn't it originally released by FOX several years back? They cut stuff out of that one too. So how did Disney get the rights to Totoro, if FOX had them?
-
They bought a bulk package. They have the rights to ALL of Ghibli's films, with the one exception of Grave of the Fireflies. I'm guessing the Fox license on Totoro just ran out or something. That or Disney paid them to take it off their hands.
And yes, since it says ALL movies Howl's Moving Castle is included. And no, it wasn't edited. It just wasn't Miyazaki's best work.
-
The DVD I rented of Totoro had both English and Japanese, but I do recall that the sound and picture could have been better.
I wonder if they'll re-release Cagliostro. :)
-
I always liked whisper of the heart the least out of all ghibli's films, is
"The Cat Returns" a sequel to it or is diff. but just using baron or something? What is Cagliostro about anyway? ( i know steven spielberg was amazed by a scene from that movie.)
I just saw "On Your Mark" i really liked it but the only thing i didn't get was what was the girl doing in that chruch by that cult?
-

Castle of Cagliostro was a Lupin III movie done by Miyazaki. It was his unofficial first film.
Oh, and I read a review for the new Totoro dub on Amazon. Most of them said they liked it. But, one guy said that he saw the Miyazaki festival on TCM, and him and his daughter hated it. You wouldn't believe the reviews I read for his other movies!

I just asumed that they somehow found that angel, and built that cult around her, to worship her and god, as an angel would be proof of god's exixtance.
They probably kept the angel secret from people who were not a part of the cult. Therefore, outsiders thought these people were crazy and gaining too much power, and trying to forse their belief's on society or soemthing. That's when the police came to stop them, and then they found the angel amongst all the craziness.
That's my thoughts anyways.

That was Pom Poko. It wasn't done by Miyazaki, though. Like I mentioned earlier: It's a good thing that Studio Ghibli stated in their contract that Disney couldn't edit their movies. It would take a crapload of time if they erased all of the tanukis' you-know-whats.
I remember hearing about that old dub of Nausicaa. Apparantly, about 1/4 of the entire movie was cut out. The dubbers stated that the parts were slow-moving, and they didn't want kids to get bored. From nausicaa.net, I heard that everyone had Scottish accents! All of these changes and edits made Miyazaki himself cry.
-
I wonder if 4kids makes oda cry?
-
jeez. Ihavn't seen my Neighbor Tortoro in a long time! It'll be good to see it!
