Who gives a damn in the end anyway? As long as it's fine on the DVD release, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.
EDIT: Oh yeah, if Teech's name hasn't been written by Oda, none of you people can say whether their choice is wrong or right anyway.

Now just imagine if Marshall's wanted poster turns out to spell it "Teech". That'd be fucking hilarious.

xD I'd laugh out loud on that one. Maybe Oda is secretly reading this thread and he'll stuff everyone's theory about it being "Teach" right up there asses and back again.

Yes, because I know all about the adventures of Luffy and his swordsman l'Olonnais Zoro, while he goes now to save his brother Português D. Ace. With one of the new guys who helps him, Buggy the Clown, whose ship the Big Top is currently being captained by Iron-Club Awilda. Luffy's also one of the 11 Supernovas, along with Jewelry Bonny (Vs "Bonney" which is what Oda wrote in the Manga) and Eustace "Captain" Kidd (As Opposed to "Eustass 'Captain' Kid" as Oda and Toei wrote) and who could forget the Dark Doctor Trafalgar Low as well as the "Mad Monk Oruç" (and you people thought it was "Urouge", PPPFT!)
I mean, it's not like Oda takes real-life pirate names, which he fully acknowledges that he used as a basis, and completely changes the spellings of to make his own right? Right? It's just common sense!

True, but really, I don't see that as a good reason to intentionally spell it in a different way just because we're not sure if Oda wanted it to be "Teach", "Teech", or "Jimmy". As long as we don't have any other info to go by, spelling it as "Teach" is by far the most logical thing to do.

Oda simply hasn't written it yet.
But, "Teech" is obviously on Toei's stupid list, so until Oda writes it, we just have Toei to go by.
Until Oda writes it, you can't say what is "Right" or "Wrong" based on the original Pirates' name alone.
What I'm saying is, you can't call FUNi or Toei or whoever on being "Wrong" until Oda tells people what is really "Right".
I mean, Everyone, 4kids, FUNimation, Viz, K-F, E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E Spelled/Spells Bon-chan's name "Bon Clay".
Then Oda told us it was "Bon Kurei". Are K-F now evil bastards for "Getting it wrong"?
No, they didn't know, Oda didn't write it. Sure, the argument could be made that his name came from the "Bon Kure" (盆暮れ) festival,
. So "Common Sense" says they should have just gone with that. But no, they didn't get anything wrong. Oda hadn't written it yet, just like Oda hasn't written Blackbeard's name yet.
And I'm with Chopperrules. If he gets a Wanted poster eventually and we get to see a written name, I'll laugh if it's "Teech".
And Bon Clay was a fair assumption. The dude is a shape shifter.
There is no logic behind Teech.

The Kanji for the festival was on the back of his jacket.

You forgot Capone "Gang" Sauvage.

Katakana can go either way.

Regardless of what you think, as long as the "big wigs" are using "Teech" (which is also probably under Toei's list, so you can count them as well) I'm going to assume the real name is "Teech" until Oda gives us some confirmation. (With recent manga events, that should be happening VERY soon.)
You don't have to like it. You can use "Teach" if you like. But at least acknowledge that in the end us fans don't have a say in what is right or wrong on this kind of stuff.
you guys are arguing over the spelling of his name as long as it souds the same i couldn't care less
wait for a bounty poster before you guys start bitching

But if nobody's right or wrong on this, what would fit under "fine on the DVD's"? XD
@RPG:

Shuddup, we need something to bitch about until the spoilers come.
o.O I had no idea that many pirates had their names spelled in different ways by Oda. If that's the case, then Blackbeard's name might very well be "Teech." In fact, it seems almost more likely from a certain standpoint.
To be honest, my initial qualms with the "Teech" spelling were mostly that it just looks ugly in comparison to "Teach," and reminded me of the word "leech," which is a rather unpleasant and creepy word.
Then it hit me. Ugly? Unpleasant? Creepy? Oh my God! These words describe Blackbeard!
So if Blackbeard were a protagonist or his morality were still up in the air like it was around his first appearance, I'd prefer "Teach." However, "Teech" feels more suitable for Blackbeard's disgustingly vile personality, as made evident by his fight with Ace and current events.
That's just my opinion, anyway. Like Chopperrules and others have said, it's all just personal preference until Oda writes Blackbeard's actual name on a Wanted Poster or Data Book or something.
Although, "Jimmy" does have a nice ring to it…
@RPG:

But dude, we wouldn't be able to bitch when we see a wanted poster because it will be a case of "Hey guys, it's Oda here telling you all to stfu because what I write is canon." So yeah, bitching after that would be completely pointless.
That's why people are bitching now. >>
@The:

Yeah, I totally left myself wide open on that one. I suppose if by the time the DVDs come out we have not seen his name written by Oda, it will be a different story. But I expect Oda will be writing the name out pretty soon, considering how important a character he's become, and how big a name he is in the news.

Yup, BB's pretty much a huge leech with a beard

Oh, that'd be cool if Jimmy made an appearance in One Piece along with his retarded friend:
I jest of course.

Teech makes no sense. Teach does. Until Oda gives confirmation one way or the other, logic dictates 'Teach' be used regardless of what uncredible sources proclaim.

I know Im not allowed to say this anymore but….YOU OWNED EM!
Well remember, these subs are rushed out. Also, I think it was spelled "Teach" back when it aired on TV back in the day, so I think the name is safe.

That's your problem. You try and turn your opinions into fact.
It'd be funny if Oda reveals Blackbeards Wanted poster and it says "Tiichi".
Well, everyone thought that it's supposed to be Oz or Odz but no one expected "Oars". Now everyone uses Oars. I think Oz would have sounded better.^^

Good point.
Between the wizard of Oz and the uncanny comparison between Oars and Odin (Horns, missing eye, etc) people were POSITIVE it was either "Oz" or "Odz" or "Odr" or whatever. They were the "Common Sense" spellings.
Look how that worked out.
Is Funimation really going with the misspelling of "Blackbeard Teech" just like Viz? Its so stupid, not only because they misspell Teach but also because it ignores the fact that "Blackbeard" is his title/nickname. :/
How is that any different than the dozens of characters that refer to Luffy as "Strawhat Luffy"?

Maybe he'll really pull an asspull and have it be the first wanted poster to ever be written entirely in Japanese.
It'd be like:
Oda: Well take that ya stupid Americans! Try and guess what that says in English!
I jest once again of course.
Who gives a damn in the end anyway? As long as it's fine on the DVD release, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.

this right here. some of you argue over the dumbest things. we don't know the correct spelling in english. it could be any of the above you guys said. but who gives a shit.
when funimation gets there they will pronounce it teech/teach, both pronounced the same. who cares how they spell a word they are SAYING.
Bitch only when and if a bounty poster comes out or newspaper article and it shows his named spelt in english and funimation CHANGES it to be teech or teach or whatever is incorrect.
Good point.

So what's your argument here? That because the most logical answers didn't turn out to be correct, that they weren't the best answers at the time?
Until Oda spells it out, the most logical answer is the best answer. Period.
Doesn't change the fact that Teech currently isn't wrong.
Though I prefer Teach personally.

No, they used "Teech" then, too.

:wassat:
No! Exclamation point!
I think its fair to say that until we defiantly know different.
'Teach' would be Oda's most likely intention.
God I really hope he draws a wanted poster and ends this.
Then we will find out its actually supposed to 'Titchy'.
So what's your argument here? That because the most logical answers didn't turn out to be correct, that they weren't the best answers at the time?

Wanna know what my new argument is?
You seem to just love arguing with anyone and everyone's opinions. It's like if someone has a theory, you're the first one to jump on their ass like they're absolutely wrong. It's fine if you have a theory as well, but don't stomp around like you're the One Piece Bible.
I jest not.
And Bon Clay was a fair assumption. The dude is a shape shifter.
Oda confirmed the name pun not that long after introducing him, so assumptions based on not knowing what the name refers to are just poor research.
I think its fair to say that until we defiantly know different.
'Teach' would be Oda's most likely intention.
Think that's what Charagon was trying to say.
well the episode was kinda slow at times the filler guys was kinda unneeded . if youre going to have filler have good g8 type filler. the iva fight was pretty good. one thing i don't get why is BB drawn so horrible?
While I still love the whole Captain Buggy side story thing, the extended Luffy-Jimbei-Crocodile-Newkama scenes aren't cutting it for me. Sure, Luffy's reaction to that random sextet of filler fodder okamas was priceless, but those six guys totally wasted a few minutes of the episode.
This is the first episode, though, where I can say that the subtitles made me laugh out loud for being so hilariously mistaken.
Blackbeard: "Who are you? Are you Magellan?"
Shiryuu: "I'm Marshall D. Teech. You're Blackbeard, right?"
Blackbeard: "Yes, I am."
:wassat: I get the feeling there's something really wrong there, though I can't quite put my finger on it…
Oh yeah, I just noticed that this episode touches on the first chapter with a Straw Hat coverstory (543). Since Toei seems to be struggling to produce extra filler and whatnot, what're the odds on them animating Sanji's "Resisting in Kamabakka" cover series? Just a thought.
Yeah, it was a mistranslation. Shiryu said "Marshall D. Teech, right?". The "I'm" shouldn't have been added.
Most of the filler was yawntastic. Everything not filler was well done.

Yeah, it was a huge mistranslation on their part, but don't worry about it. There's no way things like that will make it on the final DVD release.
I have a strong feeling we'll see the second half of the Straw Hat adventures at some point. Quite possibly during the trip to Marineford.
Good episode tonight. Not as good as the past few weeks, as some parts did feel stretched out, but it wasn't that bad. Art was a little lacking overall, but the animation wasn't too bad.
The extended Buggy/Mr. 3 stuff was funny as usual, even if a little dragged, and the extra bit of material added to the Ivan/Sadie-chan fight was pretty good too.
So next week we see Hannybal in action. Should be good.
I'm hoping the DVD releases tone down the the queer thing… There are times it does not make any sense at all.
This is what happens when you're translating five different anime a day at three in the morning on twenty-three minutes nine seconds of sleep with a nine-tenths emptied bag of Cheetos just nagging away at the back of your mind to finish it off as you begin to notice the soda your are drinking is the first Coke Cola you've had in twenty-one years and was a soda that you specifically told your wife not to buy because you consistently found yourself waking up in the dumpster behind a NewKama gentlemen's club with nothing but your left sock on and the funny's stuff seventh-sixths of the way up your ass.

Personally I think it's better than any of the other options. I mean it would have sounded really dumb if they went with something like "fruity men" or "homos" or something to that affect.
They may play around with it a bit more for the actual dub though. I guess we'll see in the ten years it takes for us to get that far. :ninja:
Is all of Blackbeard's animation bugging anyone else? Since he appeared, all scenes involving him and his crew just seem… bleh-ish
Man the filler in this episode was atrocious, I kept finding myself skipping ahead and freezing the player but my god I couldn't help it. Even defeating the Demon Guards was ruined by filler. Blah!
@Elektrik:

It's just because he happened to appear in a low budget episode. It'll get better again later.
To me Blackbeard looked weird from an angle, like really poorly drawn, but when it was a shot of his face it seemed quite a bit better. Both the drawing and the animation.
He is kind of a weird looking character, though. lol.

No! It wasn't wrong!
Until Funimation comes out and says 'that was a typo', then there's no proof one way or another that a mistake was made!

That was a pretty blatant typo dude…
I don't think anyone would try to argue any different, so cut that shit out right now.
