Anyone ever ordered from bookdepository.co.uk? How are they?
New official Viz media topic V2.

I've gotten loads of books from them.
Never a problem yet.
-
Funny, there used to be a Waterstones downtown where I live, but it caught on fire thanks to the neighboring restaurant years ago and now it's an office building. A pity, since that was where I bought a lot of my old Tintin and Asterix books.

OK, thanks, I suddenly got a bad feeling about them (dunno why xD).
Hope my volumes will arrive soon, those will be my first mangas, only things manga/anime related I own are video games and Oda's Strong World artbook which I get a few days ago. -
@Mikey:
No One Piece.

Again.
Fuck, man…
Ehh, It doesn't seem like anybody can help One Piece's popularity here anymore. I really just hope this speed-up won't bomb in their face.
There will be nothing more degrading than the #1 manga in Japan right now crippling Viz's sales in the US.
I just wish hope turned to reality this time since they were all confident with the speed-up or whatever, but... Ahh, I guess it's good enough if they catch up.
-
Dont really know, so I want to ask, how much do Viz (and other co's) release for all these diff mangas?
Probably OP is selling a lot but the rest even more?
-
Does Rightstuf's 33% off sale apply to pre-ordered manga? Could I buy volumes 34 and beyond and still be eligible for the sale?

Yea, it does, I have every volume up to 54 including the the first color walk on pre-order with the Viz Sale.
-
51-54 were up for pre order? Steal!
-
Sweet! Thanks for the info. Gotta order ASAP! Sweet deal!
-
I ordered a few volumes offline but I haven't seen anything past volume 23 at my local Borders or B&N so maybe they're just being lazy like by you Gekko.
Did you check the rest of B&N for the special speed up stand? When I went to my B&N's manga section, they had no volume past 23. Or at least that's what I thought, until i started roaming around the store. Turns out the One Piece Stand was yards away from the manga section, near the small customer service computer that only the employees can work.:getlost:

Aren't you being a bit overly pessimistic? For all we know, One Piece could be the #11th top selling manga from that week.

Well what did you expect? Maybe if this heavy promotion and release schedule happened from the beginning, maybe sales would be better. But the speed-up is happening right at Skypiea, you can't just create a new fanbase all the sudden.
However just because it's not the Top 10 doesn't mean it isn't selling a lot. We just know the rankings. We don't actually how many units each of these books are selling, "one Piece" might be cutting close.
-
Just checked my volumes 34-38 order, and they're all "on order from manufacturer."

Now now, no need to be pessimistic. Viz said "so far, so good" and they came up on the best-sellers list on various sites. Some manga in the top ten list isn't even published by Viz anyway, so it could very well be one of Viz's top ten titles.

Ignore RomanGod.
-
weird OP seems to be selling well near me. Every time i show up to pick up that one volume i was eyeing the week before or just a FEW days before its gone and out of stock. I bet it was one of you.
also OP was on the top 10 sellers 2 weeks in a row back in Jan and actually went up the following week. I don't see the reason for complaining. If anything you should be pissed at no Bleach being on there ever. I mean naruto is at the top but not Bleach? WTF. At least Bleach entertainment wise has been consistent for years. Naruto hasn't been entertaining since 2005. FFS americans have no taste.

I actually went today and didn't see a One Piece specific area but was pleasantly surprised to find just about every volume sitting there welcoming me in their manga section. I picked up 28-32 and I've got 27 along with some other stuff coming to me next week offline.
-
I saw a copy of Vol. 23 today that was freaky - nearly all of the gold shiny print on it was GONE. I was like, woah.
-
I want to take advantage of the rightstuf sale, as I think that 9.99 is a tad overpriced for the manga (Even if it's worth it) but I've never ordered from them before. So from those of you who have gotten stuff from rightstuf, do the items come in good condition? Probably a stupid question but I'm worried that my manga is gonna show up with damage to it. So if someone could let me know I'd be grateful.

i HOPE SO.
-
Yeah, and if it isn't, you wouldn't feel the need to take your anger out on children, would you?
But seriously, ah well. One Piece hasn't been dropped by viz yet, and if Viz is saying that it's doing well, then it probably won't be in the future.
-
Well Yu Gu oh shitty side story mangas seem to be pretty popular with little kids there in the USA…
For what i know One Piece is pretty popular in europe atleast in the more central countrys sadly i cant read french(well french i can but not entirelly) or dutch and i dont like the french version volumes also, if i knew i would buy them since they are almost on par with the japanese publication but yeah in some places Naruto is just more popular in Portugal its the same shitty kids love Naruto because we only have Naruto playing at decent hours for them to see, last time i saw One Piece was at 3 AM and i was really pissed at it since its total lack of respect i dont know why companies spend money buying an anime that most ppl wont see because of the times but the majority of knowledgeble manga/anime portuguese fans i know prefer One Piece to Naruto or Bleach but kids and i see "Naruto and Dragon ball" fans dont like it sadly.
We have reruns of Dragon Ball from the original to GT for years here and it always gives good ratings, i saw the entire anime 15 times or more already and we also have Naruto after it wich promotes it alot.
Even when i go to the bookstores i see bookshelfes with lots of Naruto volumes and only 3/4 of One piece then i ask the guy is it out of stock and he says that no he just didnt have it because they didnt order it, anyway i hope viz doesnt drop the series again its the version i read so hopefully not, but im probably going to start learning japanese next year so i might buy the original volumes instead :D.

Whoa, seriously? Was it just like a dull brown then? (like the eyeholes and nosehole of the skull on the new volumes)?
-
You know what, I don't even care about the popularity anymore of Naruto. It is just disgusting now-a-days. But sad, sad, sad for OnePiece Hopefully it gets better.
-
On the One Piece site it says Vol. 32 is part of the Skypia saga, but the cover has it as Water Seven, lol..
-
Why does it even say what saga it is? I find it ugly xP There are too many things on the localized covers IMO.
-
I admit is does boggle my mind that Naruto is still so popular.
The series has been awful for at least 3 years now.
A long time ago I used to read it weekly, like One Piece. Then I suddenly realised that I was only reading it out of habit and it had got horribly boring and repetitive. I never read it again.Moving on, I think One Piece's popularity problem is two-fold.
Firstly, I imagine that the first exposure a lot of people had to the series is the 4kids dub.
This dub was so catastrophically bad that One Piece was poisoned from the outset.
Such is the way with poison, the negative impression of the series will linger long after a better dub has taken its place. The man in the street doesn't know any difference, he still sees One Piece as that god-awful 4kids abomination. It also doesn't help that Viz is perpetuating some of 4kids' nonsense, 'zolo' etc. Viz should have severed any ties to that original 4kids travesty a long time ago.Secondly, One Piece as a series is a very slow burn. Basically you need to watch/read quite a bit of it before all the great characters are introduced and you can get a feel for the world. For a person who has just been introduced to the series, it must seem like incomprehensible jibberish at first. I feel its really not till the Arlong arc that the series truly hits its stride, both with comedy and action. From there the only way is up, but will people stay that long?
-
I thought Naruto hit a rough / boring patch from the end of the Grass Country arc when Sasuke was reintroducece (volume 34) that lasted until the end of Sasuke vs. Itachi and the conversation that followed with Madara (volume 43). There were a few bright spots among all that like Jiraiya vs. Pain (volume 42), but ultimately the story was pretty boring during this time, mostly because of the way it was being told.
It picked up signifcantly again around volume 44 though with the beginning of the Pain Invasion and aside from a few Sasuke moments, I think it's been for the most part back on track at Part I quality for a while now. Given the length, I'm willing to accept a few boring story arcs, the Hidan / Kakuzu arc, and the Snake / Akatsuki / Konoha arc….especially that I didn't find the manga to be entirely bad as much as it was boring.
Bleach on the other hand has taken a serious nosedive since the end of Turn Back the Pendulum in my opinion. I thought Hueco Mundo dragged a little, but overall was alright. These fights are just so mind-numbingly boring and predictable....I hope it'll be better reading through in volume format.
Since we're talking about big current shonen manga, I've really been enjoying Fairy Tail recently. I think it picked up a bit from where it was going during the Oracion Seis arc.
Fullmetal Alchemist is just awesome.

Yea, It has "the first 2 chapters of Water Seven" in it, but it's mostly Skypiea. But tbh, Vol.32 looks better with the blue of Water Seven than it would with the green of Skypiea.
-
@Mikey:
Whoa, seriously? Was it just like a dull brown then? (like the eyeholes and nosehole of the skull on the new volumes)?
No, it was all light-blue underneath. It was crazy cool; light-blue patch in the shape of the One Piece logo.

You should've bought it. It'd probably go for hundreds on eBay. One piece volume 23- The Lost Copy.
-

The back-cover has it listed as Skypiea part 9 AND Water Seven part 1, actually. But really, listing it as part of Skypiea makes much more sense, as eight out of the book's ten chapters are part of the Skypiea-arc.

I find that by Baratie your like woah man! This is awesome and Arlong Park makes you go holy shit! Thats how far they'll push this shit?!
I dont know if its still viable to blame 4kids though. It does seem like a distant nightmare now that we're so far on in the manga and funi dvd releases and simulcast. A lot of people I know that did have that impression of OP have since reconsidered since it got reassigned.

Hello gang. I went to the Telford Expo in the United Kingdom today and one of the stalls had volumes 34-38 out for purchase. While I didn't buy them since I was out of money by that point, I flipped through them (minus 36 since it was wrapped) so I can confirm any spellings or character names.
'Karifa' has been corrected to 'Kalifa'.
'Sniper King' is the offical translation of 'Sogeking'.
'Kokoro', 'Gonbe', 'Chimney', 'Iceberg', 'Cutty Flam', 'Klabautermann' and 'T-Bone'.If there's anything you want to know, better to ask sooner since its still fresh in my mind. Hope this info helps.
-
Did you catch the Rokushiki moves from Vol. 37?

You were there too?
I'd never seen so much One Piece in one place, 1-38.
I had to stop though after getting 28-31. My wallet couldn't bare anymore.I too had a flick through what they had there.
Looking forward to seeing the Sogeking song done in the manga, but alas it stopped with his first appearence. Sniper King…nyeh. Doesn't bother me too much. -
Whereabouts in the UK was this?

Doesn't bother me too much.Yeah, I decided to go at last minute, yesterday to be precise. It was a nice small convention and I really enjoyed the experience. You probably wouldn't of noticed me since I was wearing all black, I didn't exactly stand out. XD I did occasionally wear glasses and the exact same gloves as Bentley Jones (Singing guest of the day) if that helps in anyway.
Whereabouts in the UK was this?
Telford. It's in Shropshire. It was about an hour and a half from where I live so it was easy to get to. I plan to go to the London Expo and Kitacon as well if you're interested in knowing my 'con goings'. :D

Telford.
Bit north of Birmingham.
-
Looks like someone managed to find the new volumes already, but I just thought I'd let everyone know that I got an email from Right Stuf saying that 34-38 have shipped for me.
-
What. o-o"
I hope Book Depository will deliver my volumes soon, seeinf as you guys already saw 34-38 and RS shipped them to Slappy -

Did that many people even watch the 4kids dub? I mean it started out on a Saturday Morning Cartoon Block, blocks which are usually meant for kids up to about 10 years old. Naruto, on the other hand started out on Toonami, which was more for an "older" audience. It was only until One Piece moved to Toonami completely that people might have actually watched it and then gave their judgement on it.
-
I am reading the new shonen jump and when Ivanov is introducing herself to Bon Clay. She says this is Queen hell. Is that right? It seems as if it should be queer hell. It is chapter 537 by the way. the right before you see her whole face.

Hey I just got my SJ for this month. One thing I wanted to bring up is the page number…dropped all the way to 328 this month, far below the usual 380 - 400 pages....Since they dropped two fulltime series, I don't understand why they can't give Naruto 4 chapters and One Piece 4 (or even 5) chapters each month. As soon as they started giving One Piece 4 chapters, they dropped Naruto to 3.
Now, I don't understand this as the magazine only has 4 full-time series instead of the usual 7 they've had. They only supplement the three missing series with the 3 month preview of Toriko (to be replaced with Bakuman for the next 3 months) and one chapter previes of Gintama, Rosario Vampire, D.Gray-Man, etc.....this is STILL 6 series per month vs. the usual 7 (8 when they had a preview chapter) and the page count is way down.
I hope this isn't a bad sign...they got Naruto to catch up within 16 chapters of Japan and weren't getting any closer month to month, but randomly decided to slow down the series big time. They went down to 3 chapters per month and deleayed all the volumes.
Volume 47 was supposed to come in December, but got bumped to February
Volume 48 was supposed to come in February, but got bumped to June
Volume 49 was supposed to come in May, but got bumped to OctoberThe thing is, they're already into volume 50 in the magazine now...and 49 isn't even coming out until October...so they have the Naruto volumes coming out AN ENTIRE YEAR after those chapters run in the magazine. Doesn't bode well for One Piece. We may get up to volume 57 by June / July, but we wouldn't get the volume until next June / July if they put One Piece back onto the ridiculously slow 3 volume a year pace...it would seem incredibly stupid after all this effort to catch them up, but if even Naruto is needlessly slowed down to 3 volumes per year after the two Naruto Nation campaigns, what hope does One Piece have to get timely releases after the speed-up? =/

Bakuman?
hope this series is sucessful in the US
even if i dont know what kind of manga it is series wise:happy:It's by the people who made Death Note, and it's a manga about making manga. It's really addicting; I started reading it to see what it was about, and I got caught up with ridiculous speed (although it probably helps that it has about sixty chapters so far).

ok y does it say on the book depositry that one piece vols 34-38 are comming in 39 days arnt they released on march the second??

Preordered up to 54 … ooooh, my aching wallet.
