Yay, I'm going to read this wonderful post by Zignoff!
@Zignoff:
Ok, so obviously we have been able to push One Piece finally to get it noticed and having funimation and viz to push it out finally.
Yaaaay, that's cool and all, but when I went to pick up my orders of one piece novels I noticed a few things… and I'M getting ALITTLE PISSED off about it.
Oh Yay, the Kami thing? It pissed us off too!
@Zignoff:
Now starting 24 they upped the freaking price by 2 bucks, which WOULDN'T BE a problem, but what the hell si the extra 2 bucks for?
Number 23 was 7.99 and it was 10 chapters, now the 24 and 25 have been only 9 chapters, yet it cost more? So now it's smaller, yet I'm paying 2 bucks more? What the hell?
Oh… ok, I mean its the economy that caused it, not the chapter count, but uum... ok, I mean it being more expensive is a gripe...
@Zignoff:
Not only that, but for christ sakes if your going to charge us more, at least translate is properly.
Here it comes! Kami! KAMI!
@Zignoff:
Oh come my WAY?! WTF is that? IT"S OKAMA WAY DAMN IT!
Noland? DOflamingo?Teech?… NORLAND, TEACH, AND DONFLAMINGO I MEAN IN ONE FRAME THEY ACTUALLY SPELL IT RIGHT! Then go right back to miss spelling it.
…Uum, ok, I agree with Oh Come My Way, it should be "Crossdresser Way" or something but... Ok, Noland fits the Katakana perfectly, Teech, well ,if you're talking about the fact that Blackbeard's name was spelled "Teach" well... François l'Olonnais didn't spell his name "Roronoa", but, well that's the way we spell Zoro's name. And as for Doflamingo... ok wait, are you serious? Doflamingo is the RIGHT Way... They changed the FIRST Part of his name from "Donquiote" to "Don Quiote"... They just added a space... wasn't your gripe with Blackbeard that they made his name different than the source? Because their change to Doflamingo's name actually brings it CLOSER to the source......
@Zignoff:
Still Zolo? Seriously get some balls, if I'm sure that their are hundreds of clark kents out there and I'M sure they do not have to their names cause a comic book character has the same name….
Well, I agree with you, but you're wrong about the reason, and when you think about the real reason, it's understandable… I mean, Shueisha copyrighted Zolo, so they have to stick to that... Well, you're just misinformed, I'm sure there's nothing you could say that would make you look like a TOTAL Idiot...
@Zignoff:
And to add insult to injury… SHIPMATES?! .. Bangs head on desk It Bang is bang NA bang KA BANG MA!! BANG!!
How hard is that? For those who are like quiet weeaboo, blow me, so I want to respect another places culture and language, nakama does NOT mean the same thing damn it, NAKAMA means more then just shipmate, partner, or comrade, it means even more then friend and family, SERIOUSLY it's even less characters, why is it that hard to do?
…aaaaaaand there it is!
You sir, have been brainwashed by the fansubbers. It doesn't mean "More Than" shipmate. (When I was first decrying it and I said this is what everyone thinks of the word, where were guys like this when people were telling me "Nobody thinks that"?!?!)
I'll just state the facts:
Kaizoku-Fansubs was having a hard time writing the "NAMI! OMAE WA ORE NO NAKAMA DA!" line in Arlong Park, they couldn't make it sound right, so they decided "Just Leave the word in Japanese". Dythm flat out admitted this in a news post later on. He also said that he was worried the word would become overused, which has happened.
The word means Shipmate, Crewmate, etc. It LITERALLY means "Part of a Group". In Japan, you use the word "Nakama" to describe your coworkers, even the ones you hate.
And finally, in the Davy Back Fight, you fight to steal crewmates and "Make them" your Nakama. If one can be "Made" to be a Nakama, then how can it have that special meaning?
It's because it doesn't, you just make them "Join Your Crew" which is what "Nakama Ni naru" means.
@Zignoff:
Sad sad fans have to be convince that their isn't a culture out side of the US, that's the American way it seems…. we at like we care and have freedom, but were nothing, but one giant censorship it's so said.
Very Heavy Sigh
What else you got?
@Zignoff:
They could EASILY add a part in the back like they did in Rurouni Kenshin where they explain what each word means, when they mess it up they ruin and intensely emotional scene.
Uum… Rurouni Kenshin takes place in Japan, One Piece doesn't... One Piece takes place in another world, and Oda himself uses several different Nationalities... Sanji's attacks are French, Robins are Spanish and French... Luffy and Franky say most of theirs in English... etc... etc...
Zoro is the only character who should have Japanese things thrown in, Oda gave the characters official nationalities recently, and Zoro WAS Japan...
@Zignoff:
So might I ask again WHAT THE HELL AM I PAYING MORE FOR?!
Cause it sure isn't for more content that properly translated :(
It seems to be less with the most piss poor translation pussies ever..
No. you don't want "Properly Translated". A lot of your gripes HAVE been "Properly Translated", what you want is "Untranslated", there's a big difference.
