"Luffy's Last Adventure As A 17 Year-Old"
-
-
I'm personally hoping Bon Clay.
-
What? You were talking about this;
He's referring to the fact that it merely says that he/she will sail with them until they reach the New World, not necessarily that they join the crew proper.
-
What? You were talking about this;
You probably missed Greg's post:
"They're gonna make a former boss character their partner and head to the New World."
Apparently Oda mentioned this at Day 2 of JUMP Festa last year. I found it on NUMEROUS blogs when I was doing some research for the new section of my site.
I totally missed this.
Perhaps I was too busy having multiple orgasms over Jinbei.
Anyway, the 'partner' part is 'nakama' so how you interpret that…is up to you. Vivi IS their 'nakama' but is she currently a member of the CREW? No. So in many ways this could have several meanings aside from the obvious, "OMIGOD BENTHAM IS GONNA BE THEIR DANCER!!!!!1111FTW"
So this might be something that's already happened.
Or...
-
I honestly think it's going to be Buggy. He's played a fairly big part in this last arc, and with all the hype being built up around him by his little fan club it just seems natural lol.
-
As the war winds up, in whatever way it's going to, couldn't we get a 'fade to black' and switch to another Straw Hat in the same time period ? We would thus have the opportunity to see what was happening in this era of rapid change without seeing Luffy again until he was older than 17. And wouldn't a change of focus from the main character to one of the supporting cast be reason enough to burn the memory of Luffy's latest adventure into our minds? (since it would thus be the last time we would see him for some time to come)

We'd end up complaining and ranting about how Luffy's not in the story… So, I don't think Oda would bother with that. He seems to give Luffy spotlight.
Mangas like Naruto fail at that, but OP is all about Luffy…

No different than the complaining from fans who miss the other SHs. Oda could easily pull off two months of chaps focusing on Zoro or Sanji. I just doubt he'll do it. Has nothing to do with us complaining. Only fans in Japan matter.
As for the shot at Naruto you say that as if he's developed Ten Ten's character lol. The constant Sasuke obsession ties back in to Naruto anyway.

If Luffy suddenly becomes a man (like, with stubbles and bigger muscles) I don't think I'll be able to watch the anime ever again. Toei would no doubt repeat the Goku thing and continue to have Tanaka voice him. He'd sound like he was constantly doped on helium or something.
-
What about read the manga?
-
@ZeArmyOfHalen:
What about read the manga?
Well of course I'd keep reading the manga
Luffy would be bad ass and awesome in it and I could imagine him with a bad ass and awesome manly voice.
-

If he was aged up physically, they would change his voice slightly to match. Goku's child-like voice was merely synonymous with his character, and so was kept.
-

Goku was a wall of bulging muscles and the symbol of masculinity in anime. He had a squeaky girl's voice. Exactly what part of him was that synonymous with?
-
He was naïve and childlike.
-
@Kairouseki:
He was naïve and childlike.
Yeah, but he had testicles. Those things lower your voice, you know?
-

He's was someone who, regardless of age, remained a little kid inside. He was innocent and had little knowledge of the world around him.
To give him a superhero voice (like the dub did) is just ruining this primary aspect of the character. I can't really imagine anybody but Nozawa voicing him in Japanese.

Clearly you've gotten used to it enough to like it. But coming back to reality, the only men who sound like girls are 1: eunuchs and 2: members of the transgender community. Historically speaking, I can only think of two groups of people who glorified this trait in men. One is the Japanese with their femine-male obsessions and the other is the ancient Greeks, who sometimes neutered boys when they were young so they'd have prettier singing voices.
I'm not saying I don't like Luffy's current voice. Right now, it fits him. He's still only seventeen and he has a boy's face. He probably hasn't finished going through puberty yet. Or hell, maybe Garp wanted Luffy to be a singing Marine, I don't know. It just needs to make sense. A manly, adult Luffy with a girl's voice doesn't make sense.
-
Hachi people. He's technically an old villian and he's already promised to see them to fishman island.
Holy shit, Polygon! How ya been, man?
I'm in awe at this… If the characters appearences change I'll be unhappy. Longer hair is all I'll be fine with... as long as their hairstyle doesn't change with it.
-
**Lol wassup? I've been good.
If there is a time skip, I don't think there's going to be any MAJOR changes in appearance. I mean, for those of you that are around 19 or 20, do you notice a super humongous change in appearance at all? Not including things like facial hair style, or clothes etc.** **Probably not, the few exeptions are just that…exceptions.
Even three years probably isn't going to prove any huge changes in appearances. I mean, Luffy might get a a few chin hairs or something but he's not gonna grow three feet taller.**
-
Clearly you've gotten used to it enough to like it.
Or she's just a good VA, and it is an iconic voice that fits the character infinitely more than any generic and boring deep manly voice that sounds like someone just got done chewing on a handful of gravel.

Okay, so if I practiced REALLY hard and became an exceptional Japanese voice actor, do you think I could voice Nami? (I'm a guy btw)
-
a timeskip huh.
it's good ,as long as luffy can gain some more cm (everybody seems to be taller than him) -
Someone earlier said that Luffy may have an eyepatch later on. I think that'd be pretty cool.
-
Yeah, but he had testicles. Those things lower your voice, you know?
Our local TV got smart by having dubber to do adult voice of Goku. You don't want to see/hear it, believe me.
-
Just a thought.
But after Luffy's "Final resolve".
I'm wondering if Dragon will come to his aid while he recovers and finally meets his son and trains him or atleast talks to him.
-
I really hope there's not a timeskip.
Naruto died with Shippuden
-

Naruto died with Shippuden
What makes you say that? Besides, we've already had plenty timeskips without too much trouble.
-
you mean between to arcs those few days off screen:happy:
in OP it feels like you get every minute of their adventure, so having a few days where the crew is sailing to the next island seems always like.."wtf! where are they now…what happend???!!!" -
I dont know if anyone else had this idea but I reckon this war will show luffy how weak he is compared to others in the new world and he feels that he and his crew will have to strengthen up a lot before moving on
-
I really hope there's not a timeskip.
Naruto died with Shippuden
That's just because Kishi's a horrible writer. We have Oda here, I'm sure he'll be able to keep up the awesome through a timeskip.
-
And not all timeskips are bad… See DragonBall Z.
-
They would never dare to recast Luffy if he got any older. Kuririn wound up a 54 year old man and Tanaka still voiced him.
-
i think best idea is lufy physically aging due to the effects of the hormones
a small month or two timejump then luffy physically changing by 5 or so years as said by a previous poster
maybe oda is planning on using the older luffy design from the pilot chapter
-
Luffy will stuck in gear third after effect for about a year lol
-
And not all timeskips are bad… See DragonBall Z.
The one where Goku grew up, the story became all about fighting and don't get me started on the one where Goku miraculous survived Namek.
Seriously, I don't know why people like DB… it's essentially the Naruto of the past.
-
Just remember oda say this is luffy last adventure at 17 , he did not mention any of the crew getting older. Plus even if he uses iva , luffy would just look older he won't be older in terms of time.
So the way i see it , would be short time skip about 1 or 2 months so the SH can get back together.
-
I am sure that in the end of the 1st chapter of part 2 we will see Shanks beaten to death.
-

There were quite a few timeskips before the 23rd Budokai, and none of them proved to be detrimental to the manga.
People like it because it's a fun read, and it's a part of the childhoods of most of the people here in some form or another.
-

That's funny, because some of the people here criticise those "10-year old Naruto readers". Oh, the irony.
-

That'd be great.
-
@AdmiralYonkouMt.Bandit:
That'd be great.
blackbeard is going to take down shanks. i just know it. luffy will end up warring with the other two emperors. other younger pirates will gain power and it will end up luffy, blackbeard and maybe another one or two other guys as the new emperors. i would prefer it if it were luffy, blackbeard and doflamingo who ended up being the new emperors.
-
So, officially we've decided to state "no time skip" and move on to the future predictions now?
-
I'm officially for Luffy's body rapidly aging from 17 to 27.
While resting/knocked out/coma/whatever and then the stories of how the crew members return that take place over no more then 2 weeks.
During which Luffy's birthday is in those 2 weeks and he becomes 28 while he's asleep. :P
When he's wakes up everyone is there with :O faces. ^^;
Then there's the jokes of why do you look so old and you know Luffy's answer. :D
-
Seriously, I don't know why people like DB… it's essentially the Naruto of the past.
Oda likes DB! (I'm so so, it got a bit ridiculous in the end) He even drew a one-shot with Toriyama. So a time-skip shouldnt be that surprising coming from Oda. Besides, luffy needs to get stronger by properly learning Haki.
-
I'm okay with a time skip to learn Haki (mostly because it would be a long and probably uneventful arc). But I don't think it would take ten years. Luffy wouldn't be that patient, and he'd probably take half the time to learn it all. So I'm thinking like 5 years at the very most.
(and would One Piece be as popular with an older protagonist? You do have to take sales into account….) -
Everyone has there valid opinion.
We do not know for sure whats going to happen. But what I do know is that no one is going to stop reading One Piece if there is a timeskip…am I right?
I, for one, am praying for a timeskip...I've been praying for one for a while. I like timeskips.
In my opinion, it would be awesome if after the "Timeskip" OP would have a new name, probably something like:
One Piece: The New World
Jizz.
-
Seriously, I don't know why people like DBZ… it's essentially the Naruto of the past.
Fixed it. This at least makes minimal sense.
-
Kind of like
Naruto: Shippuden
I wouldn't stop reading (at this point, I don't think anything Oda does will), but…
Naruto: Shippuden is better that Naruto imo, but that was 12 to 15 (is that right I can't remember) Luffy + three years = 20 = Ace and I guess I just don't want him to look like his brother or Roger/passive-aggressive.
I just want him to stay Luffy. It's the Luffy I've known for five years. -
I personally don't think that a timeskip is in store but, If Oda were to do a timeskip, I don't think that he would drastically change Luffy's personality.
-
like i have said before i could see a 1 year time skip leading into FI especially if WB dies in the war because then FI would more then likely ravaged by the slave trade since WB is no longer protecting it then luffy and he crew can go in and completely destroy the slave trade for good
