So Oni-Kon is happening in Houston TX, and I was wondering who was going, and who you're going to be.
Oni-Kon
-
-
Neko and I will be going. Not really taking cosplay, except for our little kamen rider ones.
-
I'll be attending as well. I'll be donning just Kamen Rider cosplay as well.
Daiki Kaito and Narutaki from Kamen Rider Decade to be exact. :P -
I hope you guys have fun! I know you're not really cosplaying much but take pictures anyways x3!
-
Tsukasa and Kaito are Neko and mines next kamen rider project. Gonna bring Wataru and Nago san this time. Might just go ahead and bring Yuuto too. I don't like the shirt I got for Wataru..but with the belt it might work out ok.
-
I'll be attending as well. Jesus, 2 out of state conventions in a year, whodathunk?
And for the question of am I cosplaying?
! mmmmmmmmmmehbee
-
I'll be a gang member from the Manga "WORST" TFOA.
lol I don't think many people read this but I happen to love it. :Pand Of course I'll be taking pics coral.
-
Lapan..Onicon is way better than Akon!
-
lol so should I come now, then?
why is it better?
-
I've never been to Oni-con, but I think the reason Oni-con is better is because a lot more people get smashed than they do at Akon. But since I've never been, i can't give a legitimate reason, though I would assume its because Akon is a 'HORRIBLE' con, so any con's gotta be better xD Though I dunno if I'd go, 8 hours is quite the distance for me x_x;
-
Akon isn't horrible. I enjoy Akon. I enjoy Onicon more because first of all it was the first con I went to where I met everyone that is my friend now. My boyfriend, Kyra, MJ, Ho. It is the con where Neko and I became good friends. It is a laid back con. It helps that the crew can do almost anything they want there. It's not all about getting smashed. It's because a whole lot of really awesome people converge in one place. Yes there is alcohol, but I haven't been smashed at the last two I went to. I know people who have. Still by far the worst cons I have been to have been Ikkicon and Afest just cause they are so damn boring. There wasn't anything to do.
-
The most fun I ever have at any con has been hanging out with my friends. I don't think I've even ever hung around them outside of cosplaying either xDD
But to each his own. Everyone enjoys conventions differently, and I for one have NEVER enjoyed Akon, not any single year I've ever attended. I've never been to Oni-con, though from what I hear from all of you and whoever else has gone it's a fairly decent convention. I wish I could go sometime so I could see for myself though.
-
oh, well i can hang out with lots of cool people at akon too, so no difference for me then.
-
I'd like to meet up with you and neko, cricket, if that would be at all possible. o:
This will be my first time going ((as a character))
I may end up going with my cam-corder to film all the coolness that happens there. lolCaptain Should go as well. :P
Might as well set up an AP booth. :'D
-
captain lives all the way up in canada, so coming and going from texas at will, isn't that easy. :\ but I await all the excitement you record on camera.

Quoted for Truth.
I can't wait till next weekend! And you bet your ass I'm getting at least a little trashed XD If anything at all. Who knows, I might just spend the whole con gamming.
Ooooh also I am looking forward to being Kaito. Hee I'll have to get some wig that can do that flippy Asian hair that he has.
CU, I wish you could go, but I guess it is too soon to plan anything =( Oh wells, I do look forward to hanging with you again!! <3

Well, I'll do my best~!

Ikkicon was shitty because it was poorly run….didn't go to AFest this year, but it never has been known to be a "party" con....

A Kaito cosplay???? I must see this….
Overall, Oni-Con isn't too bad (most of the people I know I met at Oni).... The fact that they finally got off their collective asses and moved it out of the GRB is excellent....
No cosplaying for me at this con....when I get around to it, I have some ideas for some PW cosplay....
-
yay, with so many people going from ap I'm getting all amped up for this con. i think it's going to be great~~ =D
-
well Oni con is happening tomorrow night and I'm way excited for this whole event!! I hope I get to see some members from here show up there. :P
If you happen to find me I'll be the guy in the leather jacket and the cam corder. lol

With as much raving as I hear about Oni-con I might attempt to go next year, so long as it doesn't interfere with Yaoicon if we still are going.
I do hear it's a party con, though I don't see much fun in myself going since i cannot purchase alcohol. I don't go to too many parties at cons anyway, they are fun but I hate when i'm the only one at the party who isn't smashed.
People go to Afest to party? What? XD If anything, its the land of party killers/party fouls. So not a party friendly hotel XD

Yea, Afest is well…. It's afest.

I'm not a big partier either. I love the texas gang, but I think if I went, I'd be kinda board at this one. These guys can go have their fun. I think I'd rather go to Akon. lots more people. lots more stuff to do. If i'm gonna make an epic trip, gotta make it worth my while.
-
Afest isn't a party con.
Onicon usually is, but this year sucked cause of the shitty Hotel kicking people out for no reason!!!!
-
Ugh, here we go with the "non-partying crowd" vs. the "partying crowd."
Honestly, my interest in Oni-Con is only gonna dwindle more, as it's steadily become more and more unorganized throughout the years.
I only go because key people (i.e.: Ms Cricket, Neko, LC_Lapen) come down from various parts of the states to visit me and the GnD crew. In this instance, I was pretty much the host all day Thursday, and part of Friday/Saturday for various groups that were in my car during these days.
! The con itself is one part of social aspect, but I'm not overly anal about having fun and limiting it to just the venue itself. If anything, it's a pet-peeve for me if I can't go out and do other things. I honestly had more fun going driving around the surrounding area and showing all my fellow out-of-towners a good time in the Houston area and not isolate them to just the hotel the con's at.
! Sure, I may be old enough to buy alcohol, but I don't always overindulge, get shitfaced and rampage about. It's like it's a stigma if one drinks at a con or something now, or amongst the AP crowd.
! That, and it seems like a general consensus have come to the generalization that "DRINKING IS EVIL, SOBRIETY IS GOOD."
! I'm sorry, but if I'm allowed to kick back with the people I love to hang with, then I HAVE to do it with style and flair. If you're not allowed to purchase any legally, that's legimate. But don't rag on something without actually trying it and get a little loosened up from the hustle and bustle of the convention. Seriously, if I've been walking my ass around in a costume for several hours, my body deserves the much needed rest, and alcohol, when consumed in moderation helps me mellow out and break the ice between different social groups that I run into at cons. Just my two cents, since the argument just seems to flare up like a rash.@ captain usopp: If you're gonna go to any Texas convention, Anime Matsuri is steadily becoming the only solid Houston anime convention that has the hotel working together with them. Not to mention there's quite a bit to do that whole weekend; there's quite a few things that differentiate it from other conventions that run on the same, overplayed format. I've attended all of their venues here in Houston, and the last two years have blown my expectations each year.
"Hardcore" congoers may argue with me about it, but I appreciate their innovative ideas and takes on how a con is run. There's that, and the fact that they've only been getting progressively better whereas Oni-Con's been doing the exact opposite. This doesn't mean I hate Oni-Con by any means, I just think they need a much needed overhaul if they want to keep up their attendance at a healthy number.
@ Ms Cricket: The hotel was seriously not prepared AT ALL for Oni-Con at all; neither were the businessmen that were also staying there. I won't be surprised to see Oni being relocated back at the GRB and/or it being put at another random hotel around Houston.
BTW, I drank with a couple at the bar and they asked me what the hell was going on, since they were curious while poking fun, laughing at, and smirking at some of the costumes seen throughout the weekend. He said I looked like one of the few sociable people there, lol. Good stuff, good stuff.
-
omg, ho, don't get your panties in a knot. :D I'm not ragging on the party goers, I'm just stating my preference. and I didn't even say anything about drinking. I don't think anybody did? I actually do drink you know. I'm just not into getting all shit faced.
I'm just saying, you guys are like a tight knit group, and you love getting together at this con, like you said. if I went, I'd be the odd one out. I only sort of know you and bushi, and then crickey and neko. the rest of the people, I have no idea. You guys would all be talkin kamen rider this, and laughing about inside jokes with the group, and I'd be sitting off in the corner. :P
Going outside of the con and seeing things sounds fun too though. I wish we had done some of that at Akon. I think the clearest memory was when we went to rice mountain. everything else is blurred together. but that's why I wanna stay longer this time; so I can go out and check things out and hang out with neko and crickey.

What I dislike the most this year was just the hotel. It was way too small, they had to separate the dealers room and put them at opposite ends of the hotel. It was so crowded that I could hardly stand to be downstairs. That's why Jason and I stayed in the room most the day. I had fun walking to taco bell, and the restaurant that Hoffy took us to was really yummy (I've looked up that recipe and gonna try it myself.) I think I liked the other venue better just because it was in a larger area, and you could actually walk and not be packed into a tiny space (I am really claustrophobic in crowds and kinda freak out.) Also, when I went back inside to get stuff for the people that got kicked out, you should have seen the look of hatred on the hotel staff, and the cops were assholes.
LOL, Ho I didn't drink much either. I had my tropical Priests on Friday and you saw what happened then. I was asleep by midnight. I only had one shot on Sat, but I enjoyed hanging out in the room with everyone. To tell you the truth I have way more fun just coming to Houston and a random weekend and hanging with everyone at the Technodrome than I do the cons. Though I probably would have had a little more fun if I had some extra money to spend. XD
I am looking forward to Matsuri though.
-
I got to spend most of my Sunday with the band's lead singer, For the life of me I can't remember his name. But the bands name was born, I've never heard of them. :X
I'm just glad I had thier translator there. ^^'
-
@ captain usopp: I know it wasn't stated in this thread, but it's just something I see pop up in the cosplay area by various posters, and I felt I had to throw in my input on it, as I'm on both sides of the scale.

Then that's why you make sure you yourself are in this tight-knit group, meaning you should just speak up and be you, ya know? I consider anyone I know as equals, and with that said, you shouldn't feel alienated to dive headfirst into the group and let everyone know what's up. :P
-
i am going this year to only duel and see my friends…so exspect to party!!!
but yeah i guess I'll mostly b in the gaming room playing yu-gi-oh....lol -
…The con is already over.
