Anyway, after having written this, I am reminded of what Zoro can do. I pretty much expect Mihawk, and therefore eventually Zoro, to be able to cut a logia/ability user the same way Rayleigh did. Now, of course, we all know (pehh, "assume") that Rayleigh was imbuing his sword with haki, but similar to the CP9 and Skypieans, perhaps people like Mihawk who train with the sword find their own way of applying it? As in, they don't use haki and its skillset per say, but simply use techniques that apply the same principles.
Exactly, we see all these different characters do many different things and depending on who it is or how that character came to attain their skills it can go by many different names. Things like Mantra and some of the Rokushiki forms(Tekkai, Kami-e) we as the readers figured out that they may have originated from Ambition, but within One Piece characters outside of Amazon Lily may never know.
It's like how swordsmen like Zoro and Mihawk may refer to it as hearing the "breath" which allows them to cut what otherwise can't be cut. We know that it may be Ambition, but they don't so it would never be compared to that.
I guess this is kind of what I would hope for some of the captains (Emperors) in the New World; that they have their own techniques that allow them to defend and attack against ability users. Again, not everyone, and I particularly hope not Whitebeard, but maybe a few people other than Shanks.
Those techniques may in fact be Ambition as the origin, but applied in different ways.
All I'm suggesting is it could be compromised by having a connection be there while still maintaining an individuality within the usage.
