Viz and Shueisha probably have their own reasons why they're going to jump ahead in the magazine this fall. I doubt it hinges on what Funimation and Toei do with the anime.
FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
-
-
What I was saying was, this simulcast is the reason Viz was going to speed up the manga. If the simulcast doesn't happen now…
That was never stated.
-
Yup.
Our fandom is a lose-lose situation. We, uh… just can't win.
I better not ever hear you trash Naruto Fans, because now it seems One Piece fans are just as embarassing.

They are:ninja:.
-
Well hopefully we'll hear some good news within a week. I have a slight fear that the longer the news takes, the worse it will be. But I'm not overly worried at the moment.

Remember when Shaman King was the shit?
Ah, the days gone by…
-
Internet pirates pirate a fictional show about pirates. Irony.
Still… I'm really pissed.
-
Yeah, that's always the thing about One Piece… I can feel pissed off, but a part of me deep down is still laughing due to the irony.

The irony of the situation has been made light of already, but I suppose people find out about news at different paces, even in this day and age.
And I think most folks are pissed.
BTW TakinawaTonfa what did you mean about Shamen King?
-
@Dixxy:

Its kind of an inside joke referring to old forum me an DW used to be active members on.

I don't spend my entire time on the internet thank you very much.
-
Shock .
-
Sure, it was just a big coincidence.
Yep, so I guess Viz is just going to not skip to Impel Down now just because Toei got pissed and the simulcast didn't happen. That makes perfect sense to me.
People, stop assuming the worst. FUNi will not lose the license and just watch, I bet we get the simulcast again in about a months time. This fanbase is way too pessimistic for it's own good.
-

I've seen the joke made a few times, that's all.
-
This fanbase is way too pessimistic for it's own good.
They're just as badly optimistic too.
-

Which is surprising when coming here, you guys don't have RomanGod running around :P
-

Can you really blame us though? Just look at One Piece's history in the US…:getlost:

Though in all fairness, the pattern is always good news, bad news, good news, etc. when it comes to One Piece.

Yep, FUNi getting the license, horrible thing right there. Uncut DVDs, just as bad. Toei yanking the license away from 4Kids, oh lord no!
Get over it. One Piece has hit a few snags in the past year with the TV cancellation, but it still is growing in popularity, the DVDs are selling well, and we still may get our simulcast. The time for complaining about One Piece's status in the States was 3 years ago.
They're just as badly optimistic too
The BAWWING that's been going on here the past few pages says otherwise. And I'd rather be optimistic than bitch and moan about any little mishap or setback.
-
I was actually thinking today, "I wonder if this'll cause anyone else to go RomanGod on us".
sigh I miss him and his pessimistic views. Thank God this happened and broke the insane amount of optimism.

Oh, but I like complaining…
Anyway, I was just saying there's a reason we are pessimists, but I guess it's just one of those glass-half-full things.
-
I miss the days when when the biggest thing we had to worry about was the clip art on the season sets… you know.... last week.
-
I think enough has happened to this series that being "pessimistic" is fine.
Too much of either is annoying, but I guess it just falls on how you are.
-

Yeah those were the good old days…
-

Truth be told the all bawwwing over the simulcast getting yanked has nothing on the CN fiasco.

The what on the what?
-
Remember when Shaman King was the shit?
Ah, the days gone by…
Oh man, the Shaman King Uncensored days. I'm still confused by what you mean though. Is Shaman King now sucky? Did Shaman King fans act the same way? Did we bitch less? I can't really say since I hardly saw much of the original anime.
Now I find it ironic considering I just got back into reading the series. Ahhh, the old care free days when it was fun to be an anime fan. Do I have to know hide my shame of being a One Piece fan now?
-

I dnno I kinda miss what you're saying.
-
The what on the what?
A week ago the biggest complaint that could be found was Zoro not being in his candle statue pose on the S2V2 cover. It'd be nice if that were the most pressing issue again.
-
This post is deleted!
-
I think a better complaint is that Zoro's head is way smaller than Nami's and Vivi's.
-

Naw, just referencing the forum, probably should've worded it better. Actually, I should consider picking it back up again, kinda lost touch ever since it went bi-monthly and left the English Shonen Jump.
Did Shaman King fans act the same way? Did we bitch less?
I think there were like, 1 or 2 people who acted like dongs in an RP thread. But that was it.
It was pretty niche place though, we cracked jokes and bitched about 4kids, but we never really compared and contrasted the anime and the manga as vehemently as what goes on here nowadays. That was probably a good thing…
Do I have to know hide my shame of being a One Piece fan now?
As long as you don't go partying with your "nakama", then everythings cool.
-
FUCK, man. FUCK. Everytime something good happens to the series along comes something bad to totally dampen the whole thing up.
Son of a fucking bitch. Damn fandom…
I know how you feel man, I just wished something like this would of happend to naruto but of course this series always seems to get the bucket one way or another.
-
I just wish FUNi would come out with SOME kind of statement letting us know what's up…
I mean, the Simulcast situation is probably a MESS for them right now, but I'd like to know HOW Pissed off Toei are, and HOW worried we SHOULD be... -
Lol, seeing as how they're tightening up their system and twitter updates they seem like they're going to continue the stream next week.
-
As long as you don't go partying with your "nakama", then everythings cool.
I stop talking to anybody that likes using that term.
I guess I remember being a Shaman King fan was less work and fun.
-
Not a real update but Funi's twitter did seem to have a somewhat light-hearted joke on the subject manner. Namely someone suggested a "creative" way to punish the person in charge and Funimation responded to it. Officially, however, they could not condone the action.
-
I did found that joke funny.
-
I LOLed a bit.
-
Just FYI, I have a contact at Funi that I emailed about all this. So maybe we'll have some definite answers soon as to whether or not OP will be back on the Simulcast or not. I can't promise though.
-
Well, I dunno if this is worth making a topic about. But watching the Sony E3 Conference earlier, they were talking about new Video content and listed Toei Animation as one of the providers and said more Anime was coming to the PSN.
I'm not expecting simulcast here, but who knows.
-
Speaking of which I've got a contact from Toei Animation, who also happens to be the guy who works on their American digital operations. I haven't gotten any response from him but I told him when I have the time I'll send him a full e-mail pertaining to all important details of this subject. So if anyone around here has some useful information worth mentioning, particularly stuff that hasn't already been droned upon in forums, let me know.

Toei Animation has been releasing some of their older classics over the Internet since summer last year, that's probably just part of that.

Wow, that is probably like, the best person to talk to right now, too. But, ah, what would you be sending him? HorribleSub's website? Sites where the video is uploaded?
I would think that this would be a person we'd want to ask questions of - such as what is Toei's take on this mess?
-
Wow, Que and Firecrouch have contact with two of the most important people.
Questions I think NEED to be asked is just how bad is the situation?
Some are worrying the entire License may be in danger of being pulled from FUNi, how warranted are those fears?
-
Thing is this I don't if I'm gonna get to have a dialogue with this guy. He doesn't really e-mail ME that much anymore, he's busy a lot and doesn't always have time to read my e-mails right when I send them, especially I'm sure now with what's going on with the leak. But he does read all my e-mails and he has used some of my ideas and suggestions in the past, some of which may have affected this simulcast of "One Piece" .
I actually kind of blame myself for the way things have turned out here. I regularly procrastinate on sending him my thoughts, and I already heard about how people could download anime off of FUNimation's website before they actually go up. I just told myself, "Well I'll include that in my next e-mail later", and I already didn't e-mail him when I said I would three weeks ago.
-
I think most people feel the whole license isn't in danger, Rin. I think the license of FUTURE episodes may be in a little bit of question, though.
Basically, I was told at Anime Boston that Funi does NOT have the license for G8 and beyond, but they were going to go after them when the time came. Now, granted, it'll take Funi a while to release Baroque Works (ESPECIALLY Baroque Works) and Skypiea, so maybe things will cool down by the time they go for those episodes.
However, I think that the digital distribution and the DVDs might be separate enough that they could be safe. Funimation, from what we can tell, is handling the dub and the DVD release quite nicely. They just screwed up the internet version. If anything is in danger, the simulcast, followed by streaming, is the MOST in danger.
I am 99% sure Toei has a US office (California, I think) so they must have SOME interest in their US fans as well.
firecrouch, Quexi, do you guys mind sharing the contact info you guys have for Toei in case people want to send "why I love One Piece please don't take it away" letters?
-
Unfortunately I can't divulge any contact information, on top of that whatever's going on on the inside is mostly confidential, I doubt he's gonna give me an official statement on what Toei Animation's current stance. The best thing I can tell you is to do your own research and contact Toei Animation yourself, I suggested that to a couple of people on this forum between the time 4Kids dropped "one PIece" and FUNmation picked it up. I'd suggest just calling their American sales office on the phone, I mean if you find any contact info that's not easily available to the public you probably shouldn't be using it.
Toei Animation does indeed have a sales office in Los Angeles, in fact I pass by there regularly, and it's where this contact of mine works.
-
Wow, Que and Firecrouch have contact with two of the most important people.
Eh I dunno if my person is going to have any information THB. But we'll find out, but they were actually the one who told me in advance that episodes were being prepared for online viewing. I just assumed it was VoD at the time.
-
I think at this point they much start the streams next week
