i just found these forums after watching the hong kong dvds for about a year and a half now. i've seen episodes 1-200 or so (just after the fight with… was it eneru? it was alinu or ashineru on the dvd, but it sounded like eneru). i've also seen the movies about clockwork island, chopper's island, and the race. i've seen and read a lot of threads on this board in the last hour or so, trying to find answers to my questions, but found nothing specifically related to what i was wondering, which isn't so much one thing as it is a myriad of things. here goes.
i'm going to nyc's chinatown on sunday and want to buy a couple movies or tv specials to tide me over until the next boxed set comes out. like i said, i've seen (i believe they were) movies 2, 3, and 4, but i only own 3 and would like to see 4 again and the zoro movie (5?). will they be selling the newest movie (6?)? is zoro's movie any good? are the specials any good? if all the movies and specials cost around 8$, and i want to buy three of them, and i own 3 and don't need to see 2 again all that soon, what should i get?
i'm thinking 4, 5, and, if they have it, 6. but are the specials better than one or all of those movies? i liked the 3rd movie (i'm going on the assumption that 3 was chopper's movie), but i didn't love it. i liked the 4th one more, and will definitely buy that.
should i skip one piece altogether and pick up the second boxed set of prince of tennis? (i'm half kidding here, as i expect every boxed set of prince of tennis to basically be rehashes of the first set, which i have). i need your help, people.
also, if such a thing exists, could someone direct me to a n00b faq so i can catch up on all the lingo you guys use? i've figured out HK and K-F, as well as MVA and OVA (thanks to another thread), but there is a lot more you guys aren't letting me in on.
another question: i've seen mention around here of the typos and mis-translations found on the "HK" dvds, but what are some of the major things i probably never understood due to not speaking japanese and never doing any internet research? i've been able to infer everything i felt was important that seemed retarded in the subtitles, or so i thought, but i get the feeling from reading some of the posts around here that there are plenty of little things about some major storylines that were always just a mystery to me. any help in that area would be greatly appreciated, although finding that out is less important than your opinions on what dvds to get on sunday (which is, after all, tomorrow).
oh, if you haven't seen every episode currently in illegal DVD production or torrent thus far, the following will be a spoiler.
finally, i think eneru (as i'm calling him until someone corrects me) was sick, but crocodile was a much better fight. i loved luffy running up the beanstalk over and over again, getting knocked back every time, and i liked how eneru fucked up all of luffy's partners, but seriously, crocodile was WAY more of a threat to luffy himself, and luffy beating him was far more gratifying to me, personally. my friend, who just started downloading the torrents before moving to japan a week ago, told me the next major villain will be even harder to beat than crocodile, and will have a lot of respect for luffy (there's a first) because he tried to defeat crocodile for a long time and never succeeded. so if this is another 30-50 episode saga, when the hell are we going to get to shanks and ace and the navy generals and that group that eagle eye belongs to? do they already have the next 200 episodes planned out that well? on second thought, if you know, don't tell me. i'm curious, but i'm sure i'll enjoy it more if it's all a surprise, like it was when i saw shanks and ace and eagle eye again for the first time right before the trip to skypeia.
god, i love this show.
