I'm piecing together the OP universe from tatters and shards (fanart, comments here, the 4kids dub :)), so I have stupid questions, like the student who comes in halfway through a lecture and begs the person in the next chair for his notes.
1. If Gol D. Roger was so incredibly wealthy and powerful, how was he brought down? Considering all it takes is one fishman throwing kickbacks to get the entire Marines doing his bidding, surely he could buy off any potential foe even more easily, or at least intimidate them into obedience.
2. Does Nami do something with her tattoo? I've seen a lot of fanart where it looks decidedly different from the swirled-fish crest, and I saw someone's cartoon about the swirled fish being erased by editors. Since altering a tattoo would scream symbolic value, is she getting it tweaked to signify the sovereignity she can claim after casting off from the fishmen? What does the new symbol represent?
3. Does Luffy (and presumably other characters with the same power, if any exist) have a limit on how far they can stretch? It seems weird if there is none, just stretch tall enough that you can stand on the sea floor, and the repeated drowning plot sequences are moot.
4. Am I the only one who expects the series to end with a comic twist– the statement that Roger's fortune is "in one piece" isn't an odd phrasing of "intact", but rather there's only one coin there? I guess this is leftover from the heavy promotion Fox did for the series; they had a ad where Luffy yells "I'm going to find One Piece", and since I had not yet seen the series, I thought he was just an annoying kid with very low expectations. :collapses laughing, then goes  embarrassedly:
