It's interesting to see how different pirate stereotypes turn up in One Piece:
Pegleg: Zeff
Hook: Crocodile
Parrot: Hattori?
Eyepatch: Sanji's hair?
Anyone have any others?

Alchoholism: Zoro and Blackbeard
Beards: Gaimon?
And Buggy has one of those….hats.
Parrot: Paulie
….What? C'mon, I can't be the only one to realize this...
Zoro's swords, while probably closer to Japanese in design, do follow the "pirates are swordsmen" stereotype. Is this really a stereotype tho, cos there weren't really suitable alternatives in the pirate era; handguns being ineffective at best.
I note there's a "anyone can kick your ass" theme going on too– even characters you'd expect to be minor or soft in a real ship crew (Nami and Sanji's positions, you wouldn't expect major toughs, admit it!)-- is this the "all pirates are vicious badboys" stereotype?
Nami (until her exposition of motive) demonstrates the insatiable greed stereotype.
zoro's earrings. although that might be because of his 3 swords style but pirates and pierces is a common stereotype.
According to some sources, pirates' earrings were often there to pay for their funerals.
Zoro's santoryu is, I suppose, an example of being armed to the teeth. Pirates did indeed hold daggers in their teeth to intimidate their opponents.
The dub dialogue, matey. Avast!
And what about the tattos:
Nami has one, other characters that appear in the serie also have tattos like Arlong an his crew members almost everyone of them has a tatto and Nojiko (Nami's sister) has one too
It was common for pirates to have tattos, to simbolize the crew they were or their acts of bravery or just to intimidate the adversaries ;)

I hope you're not serious. >.>
If you're thinking of the common parrot name, I'm pretty sure it's "Polly". Paulie was the name of the parrot in that bad movie a couple years back. =)

And Paulie isn't a parrot…
Although I get the Pauly/Polly thing, I think Lucci and Hattori are a better example, even though Hattori IS technically a pigeon.

Polly is for a girl. Paulie is for a boy.

Polly's pretty uni-gender when it comes to a bird. Polly is just a generic Parrot name, both male and female parrots can have it.
