The editor-in-chief is like the best character. First, he spouts some random bullshit that only Mashiro would understand and I don't know that was pretty funny to me! And in the last chapter he was like was it good? bring him here without clearing up anything and haha the character is amusing. And so is this series.
Bakuman

chapter 18 was hilarious, I was laughing my ass off the entire time.
-
Hey, Luffy's eye and scar made a cameo this week!
I'm glad we're seeing some of what Azuki is going through. Poor girl, I hope she doesn't get groped. Or worse.
-
Got compared to Luffy, Goku, Naruto and Ichigo… heh.
I'm liking Niizuma more and more... he seems a lot less creepy and insane when he's actually interacting with other people aside from broccolihead.
And I'm sure that creepy guy at the auditions is going to stir some kind of shit.
-
Good chapter. Kind of slow-paced but still good. Glad to see things are progressing for Azuki, but I hope nothing bad happens to her. Probably won't.
-
think i said this before but pretty much all the developed characters in this series are good. None annoy me, like in Naruto.
Good chapter
-
Saito bothers me a little bit because he seems a little arrogant/vain, but he's still a good character. I liked Light, and he was 100x more vain than Saito is… I like Miyoshi, Shujin, and Eiji best. I really like how Eiji still respects them even though Saito's a bit wary of him.
On another note, I know this is a Slice of Life series, but how awesome would it be if a Death Note reference was made? Like, they're watching TV and someone is killed by Light... Well, 2009 was one of the years where L was out of the picture and Near and Mello were still establishing their connections, so... it would be interesting.
-
That's impossible, though. Death Note is just a manga in the Bakuman world.
-
It has been stated why the serie is called bakuman? what does it means?
-
didn't wapol eat the baku baku (aka factory) fruit? (or am I just making things up?) Maybe it is a reference to how much work is put into the mangas or how Eiji is a manga factory or what ever?
-
The name Bakuman comes from the two words "gambling" (博打 Bakuchi?) and "comic" (漫画 Manga?). Half of the words are taken out, creating the portmanteau "Baku - man".
^It's true guys, I read it on the itnernet.
When I started reading this series I thought it was kind of mediocre, and didn't really care for it at all, but now I think this is getting sort of interesting, and I really love Eiji.
-
''He's got the same eyes as a manga hero.''
My favorite line in the chapter.I'm glad that Eiji has come off as much, much less of a douche as he did in his first appearance. He's become rather fun to watch.
But, creepy producer man came off as quite creepy with that ''I want those two for sure.'' line. How ominous…
-
It's true guys, I read it on the itnernet.
Actually that's wrong, the word is something like Bakumetsu and it means "Explosive" and ofcourse the "man" part is from the word manga. So the title is a shortened version of "Explosive Manga".
-

Oh,wow.Did you really read the first chapter of this manga? In the first chapter,Saiko talks about how people who tries to be a mangaka are just gamblers and his uncle is one of them**.**Saiko and Shujin too are gambling to become the best mangaka by making mainstream mangas. The "Bakuhatsu Manga" thing you mentioned is just a mistranslation made by someone.
If you want a proof, then go to wiki. -

The [[I]citation needed] thing means it's just speculation. You reading it on the "itnernet" doesn't make it truer either.
-

You just negated any validity in anything you posted before this.
-
Yeah. Really we don't know where the baku in bakuman comes from. That wikipeida entry was just someone speculating. But there's no proof from a Japanese soure I've seen.
Last chapter was good. Now they're examining how people design mainstream manga, plus Eiji is developing as a character, which makes him better and not seem like "obnoxious creep" which people percieved him as in the beginning.
-

I'll tell you what, the article about the meaning of "Bakuman" in the wiki article is according from the translation by one of the translator @ MangaHelpers,so it couldn't be wrong.
-
Even someone that is well-versed in Japanese can't know what the authors had in their minds when they named their comic. It just takes a bit of reasoning to understand that it's still nothing more than speculation.
-
I'm a translator at Mangahelpers and I say it's wrong.
Yeah, it's just speculation really. Though that makes sense, it could mean other things. Often titles don't make sense until VERY far into the manga. Sometimes not until the very end. Sometimes you might know what it means but then a deeper meaning is discovered at the end.
-
That's not true, Naruto's at like what? Chapter 430 already?
-
I always figured Bakuman is going to be the name of their hit manga, but who the hell knows.
I love how Eiji has gone from douche to fascinating over the last two chapters, just makes me enjoy this series even more.
I hope Azuki doesn't get into any weird shit with that creepy old dude, but its looking like it will be that way. I'm hoping he's just a talented casting director. I wonder if we meet #36 as well. Possible rival for Azuki?
-
I've been thinking about this some days ago:
It would be a great plot twist that they succeded in making an anime/being a seiyuu but Azukis rival becomes chosen over her as the main heroine in the series and the duo wants to go against that but can't. :-o -
The [[I]citation needed] thing means it's just speculation. You reading it on the "itnernet" doesn't make it truer either.
Yes, it does. "Itnernet" is the super version of internet, and everything written on it is entirely true, because that's the way God wanted it to.
But yeah, sometimes the titles don't make any sense before after a while. The meaning behind the title Code Geass wasn't entirely clear before after the last episode, was it?
I like the characters in this manga. I wish they could all just be happy forever, and make a manga, get their anime, let that guy marry Azuki, and live happily for the rest of their lives, together with Eiji. But not Eiji's editor, he's sort of lame.
-
Niizuma Eiji is the most interesting character in this manga so far.
-

Well, this is definitely a much more upbeat manga than Deathnote, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if it ended that way. I personally hope it does too, and I'm sure it will.
-
I always figured Bakuman is going to be the name of their hit manga, but who the hell knows.
That's like saying they will make a manga about their lives. Sort of an authobiography.
-
That's like saying they will make a manga about their lives. Sort of an autobiography.
So…a manga about two guys writing a manga about their lives writing manga...?
-
I assumed Bakuman would be the name of their manga, but who knows.
That said, great chapter this week… beyond a real cluster fuck of an ending page. Really, it was an awkward way to end the chapter, and the final panels really arranged their text bubbles awkwardly. Otherwise this was one of my favorite chapters of this story. I still don't care for Eiji, but he's growing on me.
Also I just enjoying the advancing story. For some reason... this story just clicks with me. Damn fine chapter this week. Shame there's none this week.
-
So…a manga about two guys writing a manga about their lives writing manga...?
That's what the mugiwara guy seems to suggest. But I hope it'll not end that way.
-

That is not at all what I suggested. I said I figured the hit manga they make would be called Bakuman. At no point did I suggest that it would be about themselves, but it would be funny if that were the case
-

Mmmm.. But all other manga titles mentioned in Bakuman like Naruto, One Piece, etc. corresponds to manga titles in reality. That's why I thought that the future Bakuman title you're saying will correspond with the Bakuman in reality as well.
-
For something like that to happen would be predictable and kinda stupid… they'd be writing a manga about real life, it'd deviate from every method used normally to make manga. Plus, Saiko's drawing style doesn't look the same as Ooba's.
-
Ooba's drawn before?
-
Whoever the artist is… Obata. Ooba drew Tottemo Luckyman, probably, but that's not what I meant.
-

Are you crazy? Saito is almost a carbon copy of Shindo, minus the two-toned hair. His style is more refined these days, but his art has been consistent throughout all the series Obata has done.
Edit: I get what you're saying now, but you can't really base that on what we've seen of Saito's Art, as most of what we've seen is rough sketches. Plus, remember, he's still refining his art, so it could change to resemble Obata's in the future.

If the characters from Bakuman make the series Bakuman as their manga in the manga Bakuman . . . . . it's like M. C. Escher in manga form!

I'm enjoying this series more and more as the chapters fly by. The authors are really doing a good job keeping the momentum going and it just remains an absolute breeze of a read.
The whole manga within a manga about the manga being the manga itself(whatever that's supposed to mean) is an interesting idea, but so far it doesn't really seem like the story's going in any such a convoluted direction. Well, not yet, at least. I admit its straightforwardness is kind of what I like the most about the series, but I'm always up for being surprised.

I agree…

New chapter is up. I really liked this chapter. Seemed there was a lot going on. We get a brief appearance by Miyoshi, then the manga duo work on an "angel-themed" manga, which, I must say, sounded quite interesting. Oh, and has anyone else heard of the Gold Future Cup? Cause I sure haven't. Then again, I had never even heard of Akamaru Jump. Then a brief appearance by Crow-boy, which is always amusing, and then Azuki's speaking role! And her character's a…lesbian?:wassat: Keep climbing that ladder guys, you'll get there.
-
The bare-bones premise of that sounded a heck of a lot like The World Ends With You, with the dead people and points and all. The message in the feed-back about ''pro-attitude'' was a bit disconcerting, but I s'pose it does fit into JUMP's current business model of looking for quick hits as some people here have commented on in the past in regards to series getting the ax.
I thought the cover for Vol. 1 was pretty good.
-

Huh, I hadn't thought of that. It's been a while since I played it. Well, like Mashiro (or was it Shujin?) said "If you worry about copying somebody else, you'll never get anywhere"
-

It IS a professional attitude to not be cocky and just draw whatever you want, but to take viewers and demographics into account, too.
This was hands down the best chapter so far. Pacing was excellent and sooo much got done in the 21 pages. And I loved how ironic it was for me personally with their manga idea. I'm working on a comic pitch and
-The concept involves angels.
-I struggled developing a specific style for it. Balancing the level of realism and style is hard!
-I had trouble getting the heroine's character design down because I knew she had to have that broad physical "cuteness" thing the guys were talking about. Regardless of style male readers have to find the girls in the series attractive, ESPECIALLY the leading lady.
-I once got similiar feedback from editors while submitting stuff @ the end of highschool. -
This series continues to be great. I find myself ever more excited each time there is a new chapter.
Anyone else notice Shujin's undershirt when they're meeting with Hattori? I guess it represents his mood at the time…
-
-
That's the poster for the Oneshot in this winter's Akamaru Jump right?
I hope someone scanlates it. I'm gonna pick up Akamaru jump if I can find it… -
Is Crow bursting out of a giant bag of garbage?
