Not much to go on but I figured I do this since no one else did.

The music makes me feel like I'm getting ready for a classic Disney movie.
I'll play the game with open arms.
The only thing that really bothers me is that it's not done by the same people. Or that's how I how I understood it. So no Ken Levine :ermm:. But it has a great foundation to build on so perhaps there's nothing to worry about. Optimism! That's the key.

It's not being done by the same branch from 2K games but I doubt they'll pull a Kudo Tsunoda with this game.
Well hopefully they put more interesting plasmids, cause i was like using electro plasmids all the way

Telekinesis is a must use at times.
And Enrage is a life saver sometimes.
Otherwise, I agree.
Btw, anyone else think that girl on the beach is a Young Tenenbaum rather than a little sister?

That would be cool.
I liked Tenenbaum. She was one of the most interesting characters to learn about.
I gained something that most people consider wonderful, but I consider an abomination - motherly instincts.
EDIT: Her hair reminds me of Tenenbaum, actually.

That could be a possibility since i heard the game is going to take place before hell breaks loose in Rapture.
Any chance of this coming to ps3 at launch?
Most likely as the game has been announced to appear on the PS3,360,& PC
which system gets the port though?
New details
Playing as a Big Daddy?
I didn't really like doing it in #1. Oh well. I'm going to hate protecting those little sisters all the time.
Just harvest them.
Looks like the game won't be called Sea Of Dreams anymore.
Well in case no one's been keeping tabs on the game over the last few weeks.
Hunting the big sister
Interview with the lead designer
So you play a Big Daddy in this one? Sweet.
But here's the thing: assuming this is following the Good Ending, didn't the Protagonist take all the Little Sisters to the surface so they could grow up? I guess the game would follow the Bad Ending then.
Big Sisters look nasty. Just a guess, but I'm supposing it's a mother from the town who really didn't want her daughter taken away from her…
^The Big Sister kidnapped little girls from the surface and brought them back to Rapture.
I got a 360 recently. I want this game… do I need to play the first one before I get this one? Or do you think I could just start on the second one?
given how story driven the first one is, I think you should. After watching that gameplay segment there is already an important character from part one who is interacting with the new protagonist.
Plus, seeing as how it takes place in the same underwater metropolis, there will be mentions to events in part one, terms and elements that were explained in part one might not be explained in part two.
Part one is great and i'm sure it'll change the way you play the sequel, if you finish it first.

They could conceivably give you a cliff notes version of the first games events to bring new players up to speed. But if you to fully experience the first game I say go ahead and get the first game.
Updating this page. Feb. 9th 2010 is the release date of Bioshock 2. Pure awesomeness. As a preorder bonus for the moment, you get 2 downloadable characters for the multi-player online.
Some awesomeness right here for those who haven't seen it yet

Question. I haven't played the first one but can actually order this one at a very generous price (£30)
Should I do it or?
Do it .
I did. Got the Rapture edition for the PS3 for £30 and the first game from Amazon for £9.
So that's £9 all together. About a saving of £30 or so XD (if you consider Rapture will probably be about £50 in stores and the first to be £20)
Here's hoping it'll be a good game (I have heard good things so.)
I just realized something about number 1.
Why doesn't Atlas
! simply compel a more convincing argument for you to harvest the sisters? He obviously knows more about them than he lets on, so he could've easily won you over to the dark side (harvesting the sisters)
Know what I mean?
I know it would mean ruining the chance for 'choice' in the game, but I just wonder if there's an in-game reason for it.
…
No Gamestops in my area have the limited edition for PS3 (of course, they have the 360 one) so I had to pre-order on Amazon :\
Probably will sell my Amazon code to buy the gamestop one (almost never use PSHome)
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
I got mine in the post today. Both the 360 and PS3 Rapture editions (360 is for my bro.)
and to prove it. Here they are with a certain pimp.
Pimp Chopper has it before most of you. He's THAT much pimpage.
Anywho. Unsure what to do. Play now or wait till Bioshock 1 arrives and play that first. What do you guys suggest?
^
Bioshock 1 first.
Started playing. For some reason I actually got it into my head this was more of an RPG (similar to Fallout) so im disappointed in that sense.
Saying that it is pretty cool. Especially the Drill.
Kinda worried tho. My bro started playing a few hours ago and seems to think he's nearing the end. If that IS the case (and unless Multiplayer is worth it.) my copy very well could be on the pre-owned shelf soon.
Update. Aint been on much. It's a OK game. Nothing special really.
Brother completed his first run saving every Little Sister in just over 7 hours. Pretty bad imo.
Yeaahhh.. Mini Review here:
So yeah. I'm just putting my thoughts on here. Keep in mind I have NOT played the first game yet. (PS3 version.)
First off. For all you PS3 fans. You get a lovely 20-30 minute wait while the thing installs on. No way to cancel it or nothing.
Graphics: 7/10
Dark and Bleak. Dark and Bleak. I'm not very impressed.
Gameplay: 6/10
Played any other FPS game? Same deal here pretty much. Go to this place, kill some baddies on the way, go to that place. Kill more. Rinse and Repeat.
The hacking and Plasmids aren't really much strategy. And you'll pretty much only use the electric and fire ones most of the time anyways.
Fear Factor: 7/10
Ok. There ARE some thrilling bits in. Although kinda diminished by the fact that you're a fucking huge robot guy thing.
To be honest the fact that I'm playing some weird Pedophile scares me more than the game itself
Story: 4/10
Um. Pedo guy likes a little 7 year old girl. Girl is really daughter of some woman. Woman makes Pedo guy shoot himself in the head. Then 10 years later you're back alive and go on a killing spree to find little girl.
Multiplayer: N/A
I haven't played it yet due to Sony locking it till the midnight launch. I'll have details soon.
Edit: 3/10: Multiplayer is more of a chore than fun in this game. Basically you start off with two rubbish weapons (Shotgun and Pistol) and are thrown into a battle with people ranked higher than you (usually) Players with higher ranks have better weapons (such as the machine gun.) and plasmids. Already at a disadvantage starting out. Added to the fact that said players, when killing you also gain a Damage bonus against you. Even more at a disadvantage.
Game Length: 3/10
In 10 hours you will have finished this game. And that is saving/killing every little sister you find. I'm personally at the half way point in the game according to my brother and at little more than 3 hours. I personally do not care for the whole 'lets make a short game but give it many difficulties to make it seem longer!' thing all the games these days seem to be doing. Unless Multiplayer is mind-numbing amazing then expect this to be pre-owned by the end of the week.
Overall 5.5/10
It's an OK game but showcases nothing Special at all. Considering it was £20 cheaper for me than in the stores I'd STILL recommend waiting till it's about £15-£20 (or plat)
Personally I'd recommend Fallout 3 over it.
Oooh ouch, not good. Maybe you just got your exceptions up to high for it neh?
Not really. I went into the game having no idea what it was so shrug
did you actually finish it?
and I don't understand why you splurge on the special edition of most games only to become disappointed with them in the middle
you should rent games more often, cause even if you're trading them back in I assume you're still losing money
Not finished yet. Well over half way tho. Brother finished the X-Box version
the special edition was £31.99 online
Normal edition was £44.99
XD
Went around the town today with my brother. He was offered £30 cash or £40 trade in for it. Considering Star Ocean is Friday I may trade it for that.
^
Bioshock 1 first.
Definitely. BioShock 2 is very referential.
Anyway, so far… excellent. Truly. It doesn't really get much better than this. Rapture gotto be best setting in any video game ever. The game might be even better than the original. Seems so. Which by no mean isn't a small feat.
I'm playing if on hard and with Vita Chambers turned off, searching every nook and cranny. There are lots of stuff you can easily miss, especially audio records and cool little (and bigger) visual stuff. I'm in my first real fight against a Big Sister. I have been playing around 3 or 4 hours. She keeps kicking my arse. But I'm getting better.
I do feel little spoiled. Mass Effect 2 and now this. Could make the rest of the year feel little dull. -_-
A random thought but why console FPS games always has inverted controls by default? Do people really prefer inverted?
I gotto always turn off auto aim, up the sensitivity and make the controls non-inverted before starting to really enjoy the controls.
Yah know I don't even remember what my controls are for most of the FPS games I play. It's just kinda automatic for me.
Good to hear you can get a decent deal for your money Local. I still don't understand why you go for the more expensive editions of the games though. You should rent more often
Well around here its like £7 for a few nights. (about 4 or 5) Most of the time I assume the game will be lasting me longer than that so XD
And of course if I do like the game. Makes it all the more expensive.
I think the only special editions I own is Bayonetta Climax Edition (Same price online as it was in stores.) and this (which was Cheaper.) oh and I got that Phantom Hourglass tin with the figures too (which also was same price as regular editions.)
so far I've actually seen the Rapture books selling online for about £10+ separately so I could probably sell that and then sell the game by itself.
Although first it will be completed! I'm at 'the end of the line' so I'm assuming there's only another hour or two to be had with it.
@ Local-Chan: If it helps, in the first game they explore how Big Daddy' bond with Little Sisters. They are actually psychologically conditioned to do so. The only difference between you and them is that you have free will. However, you are still left with no choice but to protect the girl. Actually, if one of the BD's turned pedo, they'd probably be killed. The LS are too valuable to be harmed. Also, if you're worried about how the mom reclaimed her daughter because it was hers, it's because all the LS were normal girls who were kidnapped for conditioning.
As for how the lady got you to do yourself in in the beginning, she used a plasmid found in the first game that allowed the players to control BD. In this case, however, it was used against you.
It seems, after watching my brother play Bioshock 1 and start to delve into Bioshock 2, that the supporting character depth isn't as strong in the second than it is in the first. But it is interesting to see Rapture slowly fall apart, piece by piece.
Sander Cohen and Dr. Steinbeck > Grace Holloway and Father Wales.
I do admit that the supporting chars (aside from Sinclair and the Lambs) are pretty lacking. And it just so happens that in each destination there is one person to meet. There is one however I thought was kinda awesome
! during the game you get diarys of a father looking for his daughter. Eventually he is the final 'main' Big Daddy you have to fight.
BTW. I missed it but whatever happened to that woman from the train station? I was expecting to meet up with her again so.
I'm pretty much onto the last half hour now. Rescued every little sister (By no means at all a feat. Pretty much all of them are right in front of you.)
Unfortunately I did miss out on the Big Brass Balls trophy. But this was mainly due to my error (I thought the 5 at the side of the health bar was like Health Tanks. Not First Aid Kits.) and I was too far in to restart the game. I do plan on going through again to collect everything and harvest the little girls instead however so.
I still feel let down by the game. Especially when stuff like the Underwater scenes are so hyped up. They are pretty pointless. As soon as I saw that Shark and the Squid I was expecting a Boss Fight. Alas.
Edit: Finished the game this morning. I know I missed some stuff. Ending was pretty meh. You could see it coming from a mile away.(and considering I got the good ending too.)
Just finished the game with the good ending.
My impression:
! Boring beginning, but gets better near the end.
Sinclair is awesome.
Disappointed that Tenebaum only gets a cameo.
Grace Holloway was confusing: first she was like all crazy, but then she's a normal unarmed woman? Make up your mind 2K.
Father Wales was meh.
I enjoyed the camcorder a whole lot more than the previous game's camera system.
Alex the Great is right up there with Steinman and Cohen, and his morality situation (along with Poole's the bastard) definitely grinds on you more, especially since his is such a gray area (in the end, I pulled the switch. Hasta la vista, slimy).
It was such a treat to see the world through a Little Sister's eyes. Made me laugh.
Eleanor is the awesome.
Was looking forward to some sort of boss fight, but the last level could be called one big boss fight.
R.I.P. dad who went looking for his little Cindy.
I didn't know I'd have this reaction, but I loved hearing from Ryan and Fontaine again.
What, no Suchong?
Overall, while your mileage may vary, this game is worth playing (and scouring) through at least once. Playing again is up to you.
I agree. Out of all of the chars. Sinclair was very much the awesome. Although:
! I was very much expecting him to turn on you. And him becoming the 'final' Big Daddy wasn't much of a shock. I do however think it was a shame that he was offed in the end.
Btw. Did you kill the Reporter guy? I didn't realise to get the good ending trophy he has to survive (as does Gil and Grace)
! Oh, believe me, I wanted Poole's head. However, I knew that letting him go would be the right thing to do (gamewise, if it were real life, I would have just left him to the Splicers/Sofia).
Unfortunately, I heard you're supposed to spare Gil for the 'complete' good ending.
facepalm
Oh come on! That should've been a freebie!
Not 100% sure that I actually messed up, though.
Also: Oh man, you should've finished the first game. Now you know who Atlas is! (Assuming you got a few certain diaries of a certain character).
EDIT: Here's something I forgot to add to my review.
Bioshock 1: Andrew Ryan=Tragic Genius
Bioshock 2: Sofia Lamb=DIE PARASITE!! DIE DIE DIE!!! Also, she's stupid and probably smells.
As for the ending,
! I kind of liked it, especially since they give you a really heavy hint that you are, for all intents and purposes, still alive (First person view shifting to Eleanor, with you=FPV)
Saving Grace and Gil I can understand. I can't understand however why you'd want to save the reporter.
And yeah. I really need to start Bioshock 1 lol I'm currently playing Hard Mode. It's not really much harder except the fact that enemies only take like 3 hits to kill you this time.
Well, I'm totally pissed off now.
This game just froze and I lost 2+ hours of gameplay thanks to them not checking their FREQUENT bugs present in this game.
Seems a lot of people had trouble where I am at (in the 1919 room).
I'm just shooting at enemies and then the game freezes when Wales starts to talk. PS Button still works (which means its the game and not the system) and now I lost all of that data.
Definitely not playing this game for at least a week D:<
Alright, this game picks up in the last levels. That's what I expect from a Bioshock game.
