    GREAT. CHAP.

Love that Tonoyasu is mysterious as anything.

His name contains 'Tono' which could indeed be an allusion to 'Lord' and Kaido did call Oden the 'Idiot Lord' so there's definitely a possibility that Tonoyasu is somehow -be it through time or other DF powers- related to Oden if not Oden himself having somehow survived the boiling. Called his relation to Toko and interestingly enough that would make Toko royalty ^O^

That is further enforced by the fact that both Shinobu and Kanjuro did not want to disrespect him, in case he was a lord.

I also played with the idea of Oden in my mind, but them not recognizing their previous lord might be too off. But maybe grandpa Kozuki? Nevermind, he would be too old, and then what Toko is Hiyori's aunt? D:

    Pretty good chapter..
I'm really digging Ebisu, and Yasu is great so far. Nice to see some fun Usopp/Nami interactions too, it's been a while

Finally got to read the chapter and it was by far the best Jump one this week. Another group of shadowed figures to look forward to and hopefully we'll be seeing Kawamatsu soon. This arc is getting better and better for me.

This was yet another build-up chapter, but it was a far more effective one than the last few weeks. Lots of new stuff came up to consider.

First up, I loved Usopp and Nami having some time to just chill. I think their friendship is one of the more underrated among the crew so getting this little bit of uninterrupted dialogue for the two of them was a joy.

Bingoh Bungoh and Bongoh resolves the last remaining question about Komurasaki/Hyori. She's absolved of all apparent wrongdoing. There's not turning back from this. I suppose it was inevitable, but I was slightly hoping for a more flawed female character. Meh. It's been handled well for what it is.

Yasu's scene was deeply suspicious. Hard to say what the old man is hiding at this point, but there's definitely something going on there. I don't quite buy Kanjruo and Shinobu not even questioning how he knows so much, just because he acts familiar. It's a bit odd to say the least. Not sure how the fact that he "sold" his daughter gels with his otherwise saintly depiction this week. Was there no less suss way to say she went off to work, or is there a cultural thing I'm missing here? And while we're at it, the renewed emphasis on Shinobu throwing blame for the leaks around raised by eyebrow. Goes hand in hand with the way she "accidentally" alerted the guards when she and Nami were sneaking around earlier. She's rising on my list of possible traitors. The only issue is the earlier implication that the traitor was on Zou and had a Vivre Card that Jack was using. Unless there's more than one...

Training continues in the prison mine. Giving Wanonians a different name for Haki was a nice worldbuilding detail, even knowing that Haki is a Japanese word to begin with. Not much to say about Luffy's training, and we might have guessed Hyo knew Roger from the way he recognised Rayleigh's name before. Luffy blasting the night guards with Conqueror's Haki was a fun moment though.

I didn't expect Caribou becoming a major player, but here we are. Raizo using his swamp ability to hide in the mine is really clever, I have to admit. How does he breathe in there though? Luffy's forgiveness mixed with Caribou's suspicion was hilarious and prettymuch fully sold me Caribou coming along for the ride.

The final pages of the chapter really emphasise the importance of the prison break and how it's likely going to turn the tides as all the samurai from the main plan get arrested. Big Mom arrives at last, begging the question of how it's all going down. I think Luffy has to fight her. She won't be at full strength due to memory loss, hunger, and possibly going on a hunger pang rampage, just to keep her pride as an Emperor intact while being used as a mid-boss, but Luffy has to master this new Haki by punching through previously unbreakable defences at least once. It's the proof of concept for the Kaido fight.

Really hoping we go straight into her prison invasion next week!

Not sure how I feel about Oden possibly being alive, given how important his death was (and that characters apparently witnessed it firsthand, with Momo recalling his dying words) and the lack of any Sabo-esque hints up to this point. But Yasu's definitely got something going on.

While you're in the thread, Greg, who do you think the traitor is?

Did Kinemon ever specify whether or not Sukiyaki was executed? I know Oden was, but dunno about Sukiyaki.

The last few chapters made me like Hyou, and this one made me finally like Yasu (or at least, find him interesting). The more Wanoese characters I like, the better.

The way I see it, its not a big deal to me because it wasn't another Pudding/Viola scenario where she goes from being antagonistic to an ally, and it already being obvious that those men were terrible. At no point was Komurasaki an antagonist to the alliance, or even knew that the Strawhats existed, before her "death" so I personally am completely fine with it.

He's completely aware and overly familiar with people that everyone assumes has been dead for 20 years, I can see why they just rolled with it. As for Toko, I thought the implication was that Toko would without question live a better life in the capital than in Ebisu Town, which is just a dreadful place to live to say the least. That, as well as the fact that she's helping Yasu to support the town makes it easy to frame Yasu selling her as a positive thing to do despite how incredibly complicated that must've been for the both of them. It's a good way, I thought, of showing us that the alleged saint has his own skeletons.

Shinobu's been more of a help than a hinderance, including saving everyone's lives. Also people like to blame her for alerting those men, but eh that all started with them having clearly spotted Nami's spyglass to begin with. She even helped her escape, and Nami obtained the info anyhow.

It was never stated what happened to him. I always wondered if maybe he died/passed away, and that gave Oden an opportunity to become Shogun, before Orochi went and ruined everything. But I'm not confident about that, since Oden committed a crime in leaving the border. Guess we'll see, but at any rate, I don't see how Yasu could be him.

While I was enjoying them well enough, the only one I was really into was Kyoshiro. Now Hyou and Yasu have joined the list lol

Nah, Kimetsu flashback was better. But I didn't expect Yasu to become such a mystery. Especially the same chapter Hiyori is cleaned from her bad deeds.

I missed the bun, ban, bin sound effects that match the bad guys name. That was funny.

Big Mum has arrived in Udon, but we learn that there are 4 others prisons, so there is a chance they enter one where Luffy is not. Anyway Luffy is already hungry so they will have to solve that issue fast

I wouldn't mind seeing some more characters like Hancock, who are still objectively kinda shitty people who ally with the crew through circumstances. We get more than enough scummy men to work with. Caribou is immediately relevant.

See I figure it was a better life, or a "she wanted to help the town too" kind of thing, but there has to be a better way to phrase it than he sold her off. Remember how it was a whole thing a month ago that Komurasaki was evil because she scammed Bingoh Bungoh and Bongho so hard they had to sell their families? I dunno, having it put like that just rubs me the wrong way for a bit that's meant to be talking up Yasu's virtues.

I'd totally forgotten the spyglass was spotted first. A point for her, but it's still a bit suss how she kept making noises. I'm not going to count saving everyone from Kaido's breath attack in her favour though; she was as at risk as they were in that situation.

It's amazing how long Oda's kept this traitor plot thread in play without giving us any more real clues or evidence to work besides that a traitor exists. It's like I'm actually reading My Hero Academia!

Tonoyasu looks more like Orochi, he even has the same palm tree hair thing on the back. Maybe Yasu is the brother of Orochi.

One brother is evil and has the country starve, and one brother is kind and feeds the poor and weak. If Yasu has royal blood, he could be the next shogun since once orochi falls, momonosuke could still be too young for shogun position, since he is 8.

Also, here's something really nifty about Tonoyasu that you'll only get if you read it in Japanese.

Dunno what Stephen called him but his nickname from the people is '仏' or 'hotoke' in Japanese.

This could mean a few things like 'Buddha' but here is probably used to mean something more like 'Saint'.

Interestingly enough, in the sense of 'Buddha' it can also mean like a 'spirit' or ghost of those who have passed on.

AND a third crazy tinfoil-hat layer is that when you dissect the kanji for 'hotoke' (仏) into katakana it coincidentally leaves you with イ and ム or イム which reads, 'imu'.

    べべーん!!!

Well it's the truth of what happened, why sugarcoat it? I put it in the same realm as that one panel of the woman getting ready to put her baby out of its misery, it helps sell the desperation of the Wano citizens.

All I'm saying is, it's extremely unlikely to be her.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why the thing happened and why the decision was made from a narrative perspective, but it just kinda doesn't work for me.

And for the traitor, well, it's not likely to be anyone at this point, given how little info we have. Any and all theories are likely to be just straw-grasping for a while yet.

Bingoh selling his family to end up with Komurasaki didn't make me think "she's evil". It was more "what a bastard to sell is own family just to be with a woman he barely know just because she's beautiful..." And it's not like she forced him to that.

I had been worried that Caribou would have sold out Shirahoshi/Poseidon to get his freedom but it looks like he really has changed, if he was willing to go to jail for keeping his mouth shut. There's literally no one else he could get a better deal from for that information so if he's not giving it to Kaido, he's holding onto it for, what I hope, are the right reasons. Unless he's stupid enough to think he can get a ship and a crew that are capable of going back to Fishman Island where he's a known kidnapper and try his hand again. Which would explain him wanting to escape despite having no other support on the outside once he does so. But even if he did how would he manage to control Shirahoshi to put the Sea Kings at his disposal? Too many unknowns. I know Caesar Clown escaped but didn't exactly turn over a new leaf so this might be a similar thing where Caribou will just bugger off in the end and his knowledge won't come to light.

I liked Tonoyasu from the start, it was a little weird but once he took Zoro to that town where everybody else was smiling it kind of made sense that he wasn't that strange by comparison. He's probably partially masking the pain of losing his daughter with all that smiling and his charitable acts, and really, removing the Orochi regime from Wano will let him reunite with his daughter so why wouldn't he be excited to see it finally happening? He seems like one of the more prolific characters than a few of those that Franky kept running into while he was trying to find those blueprints the blacksmith master told him about, but I bet those minor characters will have more significance later on (otherwise that chapter would be almost a complete waste and that's just pathetic storytelling.) Tonoyasu might be the link between them, and others, who'll show the team that the number of allies they have aren't so small after all.

They better get Big Mom to eat the food she wants, or you know what's gonna happen the longer they make her wait.

I too thought Caribou was going to sell out Shirahoshi to Kaidou but I'm certain he's still holding the information for the wrong reasons. He basically thought to himself that it would be very valuable information for "that person" lol. I imagined Doflamingo, Kaidou or Black Beard but maybe none of them now. I imagine he'll let that info slip to who ever he answers to at some point. Could be during or after his team up with Luffy.

Mentioning it to Drake would be a big problem, if it turns out he's been a faithful government dog the entire time.
