Also if you have any questions feel free to PM me. Also also, once you feel like you're done your character, please send me your initial sheet so I can keep stats in order. Better than asking your saves and stuff like that.

I've decided to be a ranger. Will send in player sheet later.

Side question: is Revised Ranger allowed?

I have an idea for a bard character who's awful at battle and geared more towards socialization, with only a few spells picked with fighting in mind. I think that'll make him interesting to play. Is that alright with everyone or does anyone think that's too big a detriment to combat?

^ I'm absolutely fine with that.

Did a bit of reading on classes, I'll probably try being a Barbarian.

I don't mind either, it's more a matter of whether you yourself won't mind not being especially effective in combat. But hey, you can always switch out your spells if it's an issue!

I’m still deciding on an oath, but I think that I’ll probably go with crown so that I can protect some of our squishier party members.

Anyone who’s played a paladin before have recommendations?

I've played an Ancients Paladin before and been quite pleased with the tankiness. Found some magic armor and now I have to go out of my way to get hit.

I think the Crown Paladin is generally considered a little underpowered, but not enough to to make it bad or anything. It's kind of been eclipsed in popularity by Conquest for the role of "sticky tank," but that only really comes online at level 7 and has a bit of a darker theme to it.

Food for thought. One of the best moments I've had playing D&D was my Devotion Paladin earning complete immunity to charm and sharing it with adjacent allies just two sessions before we fought Mr. Charm himself, Strahd. The DM at first though Devotion Paladins only have advantage on saves against charm, then Darth Vader screamed no when I showed him where in the handbook it says I get total immunity.

If you find anything that sounds like it can mess with a big bad evil guy, put it in the Almost Definitely pile.

Coming from someone who regularly charms everyone he meets, I would hate you.

Speaking of foiling DM plans, 11 levels from now my Monster Slayer ranger can cancel out teleports. Can't wait for us to fuck up a Rakshasa's day.

Should we use this thread to establish some session 0 guidelines? Or would you rather do it in voice chat?

I myself have never done a session 0 but I figure it's stuff like:

    - how many sessions/levels will this be // is it open-ended?
    - are there any house rules? (the luck roll thing, feats? multiclassing?)
    - how do people feel about potential inner-party conflict?
    - is this supposed to be more on the serious and gritty side or more happy-go-lucky?
    - should we expect the usual monster to go for the kill on unconscious people?
    - is a frog lizard superior to a lizard wizard?
    - ...

Well, I'm all for having that discussion here. Also, thanks for the suggestions, guys.

I'm definitely leaning toward half elf conqueror paladin, now. Might go variant human if feats are allowed, though.

Would also love to multiclass into warlock if possible.

Alright, let me answer my own prompts then.

    - how many sessions/levels will this be // is it open-ended?
-> Not up to me but interesting to know

    - are there any house rules? (the luck roll thing, feats? multiclassing?)
-> I'd like feats and multiclassing to be options but I could also do without

    - how do people feel about potential inner-party conflict?
-> I'd probably like to keep this to a minimum considering it's my first game. I'm talking about bloodshed though, not simple arguing.

    - is this supposed to be more on the serious and gritty side or more happy-go-lucky?
-> I'm expecting the latter but either one is fine

    - should we expect the usual monster to go for the kill on unconscious people?
-> I'd prefer not to die immediately but as long as I know beforehand, I can act accordingly

    - is a frog lizard superior to a lizard wizard?
-> Superior is such a strong word

    - ...
    ->

The Great and Powerful Shuhan mentioned doing something of a Session 0, so this will probably be part of that.

Anyways, my ranger is Variant Human but took a feat to get expertise in Nature, which should tell you exactly how combat-optimized he is. I can step it up if other people are but I'd rather not.

I'm also against any serious inter-party conflicts. If the Rogue makes a public check to swipe some extra gold when we're dividing poor, that's fine. If the Rogue is passing notes to steal my personal loot while my character sleeps, or sets anyone up to get killed or something, that's not.

Sorry Huschel, got a little busy today

1)I have no set amount of sessions, especially since life can interfere at anytime. Lvls however will most likely be capped at 20, but I am willing to hear against that

    2) other than luck, components for spells, hunger, tedious stats like that I won't enforce. As long as you have spells prepared and know them, cast away as long as you have the slots to use.

    3) how you interact is up to you. I am flexible with how you run your characters and will do my best to conform the story to unexpected issues( that and I love groups that are dysfunctional, but don't let me form your actions)

    4) it will be a mix of dark and humerous. Serious 24/7 is just not fun to me.

    5) at this point, I cannot answer that

    6) Frog Wizard

    7)
