Default Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle official trailer

Definitely seems to be much more comedic than the first

I've never gone from hating a movie idea to loving it so fast.

I'm actually really ok with it when I forget the fact that they just plastered the Jumanji name on it for some reason. Don't expect to pay money for it, but I'd gladly watch it for the lols on tv or Netflix if it's there and I'm bored.

I'll just go ahead and say it: the original Jumanji really isn't that good.

In any case, it looks like they're definitely taking a new approach to the story, so at least it makes a bit more sense that they did a remake.

This looks like it could be funny, but there's really no reason it should have the Jumanji name to it, at least going off the trailer. I get the impression that this was an unrelated script that they decided to tweak a bit to make it Jumanji.

Eh, it worked for 10 Cloverfield Lane, so whatever.

I'll watch it for The Rock but truth be told the trailer isn't selling it for me.

Turning Jumanji into a video game that they get transferred into makes it less appealing, IMO. I've been there, done that (but maybe that's just because it's a common trope in anime/manga). The original being a board game that came to life in a mansion was unique and more interesting.

It sounds like it might be kind of humorous, but it just doesn't look very interesting to me.

Is it raunchy and litty though?

At least we don't have to worry about creepy uncanny valley Robin Williams.

At least until it got copied by Zathura.

I wouldn't really call it a copy though, since the Zathura children's book is a sequel to Jumanji also written by Chris Van Allsburg.

Original was like...genuinely scary, as a kid anyway. Felt like they were in real danger on every spooky dice roll, and although it wasn't shown (I don't think?) it felt implied that townspeople were being killed by mosquitoes and stampedes and earthquakes which was only somehow acceptable because- spoiler alert- Robin Williams resets the timeline by winning.

This just looks like another goofy adventure romp. The video game update doesn't seem as jarring as the complete tonal shift. Just call it Adam Sandler's Grown-Ups 3: Jungle Vacay.

...Yes. Jumanji was one of my favorite movies and I have serious rose-colored glasses about it lol.

Jumanji was essentially taking Jurassic Park and replacing the dangerous dinosaurs with random supernatural safari-themed nonsense. Which is why this is hardly Jumanji at all, it definitely lacks the danger and the stakes.

That said, calling anything Grown-Ups is just extremely insulting to anything that could ever be made. Sure, this movie is not jumanji, but I'll respect a movie that's openly an adventure/comedic take on game and adventure tropes more than that. The director doesn't seem to have a rep for stuff I find great (New Girl, Bad Teacher), but he's no Adam Sandler.

Video game that gives you a new appearance and skills to face the levels of the game. That's just a random virtual relaity game that went to far. I am not sure how that relates to Jumanji pass the name.

I'll come clean, I just want to see how many times The Rock raises his eyebrow.

im not really against the idea of this movie.
while i did like the original movie, i wasn't entirely sold on the concept of the game. it seemed more like an endurance test rather than an actual board game that requires any skills. also, i really wanted to see the jungle itself, we've only seen glimpses of it with the crazy hunters, all most all of africa's animals (even though alot of them don't actually live in jungles), and giant plants that could swallow a human and shoot venomous barbs.
all of those things made it such an exotic place with tons of potential for an adventure plot, which is what this movie is obviously going for.
