Erdogan: "Uprising a gift of God", "Army cleansing", "New Turkey".

Yeah. He wanted this to happen. Turkey is fucked.

Its not really democratic when those are the conditions, Turkey never quite had healthy democracy, and Erdogan has pushed that to the borders of counting if at all. If you are firmly anti-coup because of it being undemocratic, then by the same token you need to regard Erdogan's administration as undemocratic for its countless actions and plans in that direction. Neither side is democratic.

Since Hitler already came up, might as well say he was elected "democratically" (by using violence and exploiting fears of minorities) too.

Best thing to come out of this is a rare instance on jet-on-jet warfare as it appears both factions have F-15/16s at their disposal.

If you believe this is the simple cute and dry case you understand virtually nothing about how democracies rot.http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-d...kish-democracy

If the coup fails the ridiculous idea that Erdogan is a democratic entity is going to REALLY collapse and it's going to be horrible. This will offer all the excuses he needs to complete the Putinization process.Seriously, stop defending this piece of shit as "democratic". Even if you're completely anti-coup, that's fine, but this is not democracy vs anti-democracy. This sort of person getting the absolute power he seeks is going to be absolutely horrible.

Yeah this is fine. Real democratic minded guy, must have a wicked get-out-the-vote operation.

These range from the great Hunnic empire founded around 200 BC
    Uhhhh

I'm...pretty sure we don't call the Xiongnu "Hunnic" anymore or consider them "Turkic".

Also, what the fuck is this palace trying to be:

    Spoiler:

Several different EU organizations have declared the most recent Turkish election to not meet democratic standards, but never-mind that! I'm shocked these coup people don't respect democratic rule of law!

--- Update From New Post Merge ---

Is Erdogan a freely elected democrat? Why just ask all the media venues of the Turkish republic, they will all tell you the same thing, that he is SUPER democratic to the extreme. And if you happened to find one that doesn't, please report them immediately to the state security services. Thank you.

The only fatalities being reported are 17 police officers killed in an attack on a police station in Ankara. Casualties have got to way higher than that but no hospital or source will report on that. Suspicious.

There's been 42 deaths reported now. Still way too low.

I just don't think a show of violent might is the answer. If the opposition didn't support the coup then this was unnecessary.

Opposition has never supported any coup, and is unlikely to ever do so considering the risks and image associations.

The coup has been reported to have been stopped. If that's true then it's a worst coup ever.
