    Florida is full of people who are not wacky neoconservatives and they do not deserve the treatment they get harming their lifestyles legally, emotionally, or otherwise and they are in Florida and have to live there.     Given the choice, I'm sure that Roberts and Kennedy would rather punt on the issue of gay marriage since I don't think either one of them wants to be the deciding vote for it but don't want to be the one who ignores the wave of opinion, both popular and legal, in favor of it either.

    So, Time's premade top 100 most influential people of the year wasn't changed by the online poll, (and they never implied it would be.)

    India is weird because of how huge it is both in size and economically (like in scope) we get to half thinking of it as like Slumdog Millionair/Bollywood/Telemarketers.
    And then when stories like this bubble up from the very much rural Sub-Saharan African level shitholes sitting right next door to the dancing multi-million music movie sets....it sort of throws us for a loop that India can be so backward and slightly modern at the same time.

    Then again that Manhattan and slightly inbred radical Mormon polygamy cults exist in the same country is insane too I suppose.

    Personally, I think it's kind of ridiculous people are saying there's now a "price" on American troops and citizens now. As if there wasn't any incentive before to harm or capture Westerners. The same precautions should be taken as always.

    Personally, I'm glad he's back and I hope he makes a full recovery mentally and physically though that might be impossible. I hope the Qatar government keeps a watchful eye on those who were released.

    The "slightly modern" view you have only exists in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, New Delhi etc. There is a LOT of difference in development between metropolitan Cities and those rural areas in ALL of the states. The rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer every single day. In some places, conditions are equivalent to those before 1947, which is a sad truth.

    To shed more light on the case, the crime was committed in Uttar Pradesh which is the most populous state. To add to it, it is headed by an asshole. To make it worse, the previous chief minister was also an Asshole. Hence, practically, there has not been much development in UP since..say 2003. If you separate politics, religious and caste intolerance, Education and male domination in the society are other key factors. Though, in my opinion, weak laws against Rapes cases is a crucial one. Indian laws are among the worst in the world. It practically took 17 years for the completion of 1993 blasts case. I am telling you, it is going to take more than 5 years to put those men behind bars. It is easy for the accused to be granted bails more than ever. People are getting away with their crimes. Very sorry state we are in right now, to be honest.
