You can never have enough guns and selfish assholes killing innocent people just cause with those same guns.

Speaking seriously for a moment, when confronted with overwhelming gun violence, the answer is not to throw more guns at it. The answer is not to post armed militia groups or militarized private security outside the doors of every classroom, movie theater, and recruiting office in the nation. Seeing a group of rednecks with sub-machine guns and AK47s milling around schools, restaurants, or entertainment venues is going to unnerve you and make a lot of folks very uncomfortable, no matter how honest their intentions are. And can we even trust the mental stability of those right-wing civilian militia to begin with? The true answer is in expansive background checks and tighter gun control legislation, but it's asshats like the one pictured above that make accomplishing what would normally be considered an relatively simple solution very, very difficult.

I'm pretty sure I saw someone argue in the comments on MSN.com or somewhere that that could be solved by using laser-sighted guns instead -_-

It would definitely be great in the darkened packed movie theater if other people began firing around hoping to hit the first gunman.

I like Chris Rock's idea of restricting bullets. You don't want your guns taken away? Fine, we'll charge you mint for the bullets or only allow you one case per year.

I spoke with a couple of turkish co-workers a few days ago and they basically paint Turkey as this flawless utopia ( with shitty traffic, but you can't have everything ) and the rest of the middle east, (including armenians and assyriacs) are just whining losers. Turkey has some of the strangest nationalism there ever has been. Turks are in general secular and well intentioned people who don't want anything to do with all the religious fuckery going on in their contemporary nations and they pride themselves with being one of the mightiest states in Europe and the Middle East. But they refuse to admit that the kurds are pulling the heaviest load against ISIS, because slipping up to the kurds is basically a sign of weakness. Besides, Erdogan and his goons haven't exactly been as confrontational with ISIS as they could have been. Which would certainly serve to boost the national ego.

I feel like these highly profilic shootings have only become less of an issue as time pass. I don't know what to chalk it up to, I doubt it's ''less gun kuntrull'', but back in the early 00s, late 90s, I feel like there was some lunatic shooting up a school every other week.

*sigh* I really don't get why these people can't understand that they are creating bigger targets and are making people super uncomfortable. If I was a recruiter the last thing I would want is to constantly see more heavily armed people...The only time I see someone say that they are doing a good job, it's followed up by mentioning their past service and or type of guns they own.

Its not that its less of a thing.

Its just that, unfortunately, you, and everyone else, have just gotten used to it.

Its on the news so often its hard to get worked up about anymore, no matter how big a tragedy. One event doesn't get as much nonstop coverage as it used to. Columbine was a massive controversy for months, the shooting the other day? An aside. Nothing gets better, nothing gets done or fixed, it remains senseless, so its hard to get worked up over anymore.

In recent memory, the Sandy Hook shooting had Huge extensive coverage and controversy, and some reforms to gun legislation actually came close to being passed (but ultimately did not). People were motivated to act because of the victims extremely young ages more than anything else.

Now though, have we as a society become completely apathetic to every news of a mass shooting?

The US is kinda like a wife that won't leave her abusive husband in regards to their gun policies.

Is it that common really? I can't think of any of these random location/random killing case in the US since the shooting at Marysville.

Big nationwide newsworthy shootouts seem to happen once or twice a year. Little shootouts involving four or five people? Daily.

Shooting in schools, shootings in cinemas... all done before.
Hardly people get worked up about those anymore.
So either those shooters have to get more creative or they will just stay a few days in the news.

It's only strange by comparison to Middle Eastern style nationalism, it fits the bill pretty perfectly if thought of as more European style. Which considering Ataturk founded modern Turkish nationalism...yeah European style it is. Unless you get the Erdogan style which mixes the two.

yeah lol. I was wondering if an intern had gotten them or if maybe there was a staff that prepped the room

I like the pictures of Bush. They're really humanizing in a way... it's like everybody is realizing the weight of the situation and he's realizing it and even though everybody is kind of in shock, there's a heaviness that actions are gonna have to be taken soon.
