North Korea has apparently executed 80 civilians for things as minor as watching foreign movies or owning a bible.
Their families and friends have reportedly been sent to prison camps, and thousands of people were rounded up and forced to watch the executions.

Those articles are both a year old.

... Well, shit. That's what I get for not double checking something before sharing it.

    Sincerely sorry about that.
Someone posted it on another forum as if it was new, and I took that at face value.

A NYC grand jury today has dismissed all potential charges against Daniel Pantaleo, the white police officer who used a fatal choke hold on Eric Garner, an unarmed black man, while arresting him for illegally selling cigarettes.

    Welp.
Isn't it funny how Cops can be arrested on drug trafficking, corruption, DUI's etc but yet they're very rarely arrested, charged, & convicted of homicide.

This story though.........this is why it pays to get an education.

    Welp.
Though unlike the Ferguson case, this is is getting flack from pretty much everywhere. Even Hot Air is pretty much calling this BS since there was absolutely no indication that Garner was a threat to anyone, and the whole thing was caught on film.

We can't burdern our law enforcement with draconian laws about these sort of things, they might have to avoid causing death!

It also seems like this is another case where the prosecutor purposely went out of his way to trump up the charges. In this case, having to be 'malicious intent' rather than 'involuntary manslaughter'.

Note: Source at the moment is word of mouth.

People want every single police officer to carry a body cam on them at all times as if that'll end all the problems, and while I agree to a certain point notice that even if something is caught on camera it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Prosecutors sabotaging their own cases seems to be the norm for murder/manslaughter cases.

at least we'll know more and maybe it'll make cops think twice before doing stuff

obviously it won't end the problem but it probably wont make it any worse

Yeah. Its the degree of difference. Body cams would definitely put police more on the guard about thinking they can get away with certain acts as well as helping to change people's minds about certain cases where there's only eye witnesses and defendant testimony. That doesn't mean it would just solve every problem though, and there would still be cases like this.

Not as familiar with the judicial process as I should be, but if they find the investigation done by the investigation wrong/faulty, is there anothering investigation to see if he should be indicted on something else or a larger investigation into the overall police force?

While it's true it wouldn't suddenly end police corruption over night, and there would still be ways for cops and prosecutors to try to get off Scott Free in these cases, the Cameras would GREATLY help reduce this kinda horrible stuff.

Yeah, I agree with you all that the cameras will no doubt help greatly but I was just pointing out that they weren't the the solution.

On the topic of wearable cameras, one of my acquaintances researches and writes extensively about this. Here's a quick blog post of his that I think is worth reading.

The defeating thing about Eric Garner is that there is video evidence entirely that he was murdered by police and even that wasn't enough so far, which is why giving every cop a camera alone is probably not going to make the dent that it should.

Austin Walker talking related on Eric Garner. Also talks state violence, white supremacy, interconnected social issues that lead to this police aggression.

Keep in mind that they could just selectively edit the video from cameras and only show grand juries the segments that support the police's version of the events.

If the prosecution doesn't want a conviction, it's almost certainly not going to happen no matter how solid the case is.
    Complicating things since 2009.
