    Default Hannibal (NBC Series)

Did a search and got no results, so I figured I'd go ahead an start a thread.

Hannibal is a new series on NBC following Will Graham and Jack Crawford (from the Red Dragon book) and, of course, Hannibal Lector. It's a completely original story, however.

It just premiered on NBC, and it's quite good. It has had some badly cheesy moments, but it's also had a few strong and creepy psychological moments.

And, to top it off, Mads Mikkelsen (best known as Le Chiffre from Casino Royale) is pretty damn good Lector. Not Hopkins good, mind you, but that's not fair.

Hugh Dancy is also quite good as Will and shouldn't be overlooked.

    Spoiler:

When he shoots Hobbs, that whole scene was great.

The episode will be up on Hulu tomorrow, so be sure to check it out!

Also, they've got someone really good in the dead body department. Don't know who it is, just that it's not Greg Nicotero, but all the dead people look very convincingly dead.

EDIT: Here's the Hulu link: http://www.hulu.com/watch/475305

It's a shame this is named after the WORST one within the trilogy. Yeah I know it's his name, but still...

To be fair, if we look at the books, Hannibal Rising is the worst.

I like to plug my ears and stick chopsticks into my eyes whenever that book is mentioned. What a disaster...ugh (heck it actually has a movie too done by the guy that did the Stretford wives movie...wasn't that a match made from heaven). Though Hannibal should have been better. I mean...c'mon Ridley Scott

Thoroughly enjoyed that first episode. Though the show is about Hannibal, I believe Hugh Darcy (who was awesome in that first episode) will steal the spotlight from Mads Mikkelsen

Well, I'm in love with this show. That was one of the best second episodes of any show I've ever seen.

I like how it's a pseudo-procedural where the case takes a backseat to the character work, which was fantastic. Hugh Dancy became the unquestioned star of the show tonight. I also hope Freddie sticks around, she could be an interesting catalyst for Will.

Now, let's talk about a create freaking way to kill people. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. And when that one grabbed Will, that make up job was amazing. That made The Walking Dead look amatuerish.

Seriosuly people, if you are not watching this show get to it! Watch at least these first two episodes, because the second one is leagues ahead of the pilot, so even if you weren't wowed by that, this one could get you hooked!

This show is grand. Best new show on NBC since Awake.

Note I've not read the books or seen any of the movies.

    :I

    I should change that.

The only thing I dislike about this show is how it makes you think that every single food item you see is human.

Yes we get it, he is a cannibal and others in the show are too. If it isn't human they are eating, don't make us believe it is. Like tonight, your thinking "that's not pork, that's the reporter lady" But no, then she is alive later.

Then the drinking of the wine, they later talk about wine with the bodies and mushrooms? so was he drinking wine made from humans?

It's a great show and all, but wish they would lighten up on the whole "what are we eating now" Feel like I'm watching pokemon and before the break they are like "Name that meat he's eating" So you sit and think "omg its human" Then later to be shown it wasn't, or no idea if it was or not.

I like that aspect, because you know one of these times it is going to be human. I think it adds a subtle humor to it. As long as they don't over do it.

I just feel like this series will be better watched in hindsight later. I'm enjoying it now, but the second watch through will be neat to actually know whats what. Like know what he is eating, who he is helping, who he knows, ect.

So much is ambiguous right now

Heeey....Red Dragon was a decent movie . It was no Silence of the Lambs, but it was still good.

I love the cutaways to food. It's one of the more interesting, unsettling aspects of the show because, as the audience, we're unsettled and horrified by the possibility that Hannibal is feeding his guest HUMAN FLESH, but dammit, does it look tasty. It's a very entertaining feeling to feel oddly hungry despite that faint inkling that it could be somebody.

"I'd love to have you and your wife for dinner." also made me lol.

One thing I don't get is why no one mentions that Hannibal is creepy at all.

I mean sure jumping the gun and saying "are you a cannibal" is crazy, but everyone should be leaving his talks with a shiver going "man that guy is creepy"

You always hear serial killers neighbors go "oh he was the nicest guy, or never suspected him, ect" With Hannibal, it should be the hugest DUH moment when he is arrested.

Yeah, it was, but the book version was better. In fact, it's the only one of the books I like.

    -------

Honestly, Kitsune, I'd recommend avoiding other Hannibal related things until this at least finishes its first season. That way you're not comparing. Especially since the Will Graham in Red Dragon and the one in this show are rather different. For reason that will become clear once you read the book. Plus, as great as Mikkelsen is, he is no Anthony Hopkins.

Well it certainly helps that a fair share of the books were bad in general.

Really need to start watching this show, but too damn busy now days.

Well just sacrifice the hour you were probably going to fart around on this site tonight and go to nbc.com and watch the first episode now. I'm sure they probably have it on there.

Yeah, I kind of like the idea of going into this blind. I don't have to sit and compare x to book x or movie x. :P

Even after the first few minutes, I found Will Graham immediately compelling, so I wouldn't want to ruin that by seeing what he's like in Red Dragon (assuming this is a sort of prequel to the book or something to that effect?)

Well he is played by edward norton in the movies.

So take that how you will. But good luck waiting. After watching the first episode i was super tempted to watch the movies all again. But they weren't on netflix so I gave up. But if they were I would have probably rewatched them all.

Besides the movies shouldn't really spoil the series too much. None of them deal with these events. They are either before or after what this first season seems to be doing.

Probably going to start giving it a watch this weekend.

@kitsune: Based on what posters are saying about it, seems like this serie is a prequel to Red Dragon so I would just avoid in order to avoid making comparisons between characters. It is fun to speculate about them.

    Is this order?

    Hannibal Rising
    Hannibal TV series
    Red Dragon
