Eternal Sonata's soundtrack was so good that I didn't notice I didn't like the game 'til the second time through.

    My personal fave:

Maybe not the best, but it was nice to have some legit field music for once.

I've seen many criticisms over the music of SMG1, with a common mention that the music is just kinda soulless and is orchestrated for the sake of being orchestrated. Though the general agreement is that the best of SMG2 is better than anything in SMG1, while SMG1 as a whole is better than SMG2 as a whole. I'd say that there was more fun to be had in SMG2's music. My favorite track being Melty Monster Galaxy, which has its unique mix of instrumentation and synth, the bold melody, and a nod to the SMG main theme:

New page. Time to go overboard on Yoko Shimomura. I watched my cousin play this sprite game was awesome ass music years ago, but I didn't recall the name of the game until early this year. That game's name was Legend of Mana. And hell, the music was still awesome. Ranging from atmospheric to upbeat. Definitely one of my favorite composers.

Wow. This one is amazing! I absolutely love it.
It sounds exactly like 3 of my favorite tracks from Infinite Undiscovery(not a great game, but awesome soundtrack).

Sakuraba did both of those soundtracks, so the similarities are absolutely there. Going to have to check out Undiscovery, even though that title is absolutely lol.

Special mention for the Ni no Kuni Soundtrack but I don't think anyone who is familiar with Joe Hisaishis work is surprised that it's pretty stellar.

    Atelier Iris - Eternal Mana:
    Spoiler:

My 15 year old self was absolutely addicted to the game, most likely because of the soundtrack.
There was just something about it that hit all the right notes with me.

I might as well make some contributions and share some tracks from games that I've enjoyed. Some of these games may have already been touched upon, but you can never have enough good music.

Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2

I wasn't really a fan of the music from the first Devil Survivor, as I found the constant guitar riffs and buttrock to be very repetitive or otherwise unremarkable. Then for the second game Atlus got Kenji Ito on board, and he delivered a much more diverse, lengthier soundtrack. It's such a pity that America didn't get the bonus CD that Japan did - Atlus USA is usually pretty good with that stuff.
    Spoiler:

    Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey

I've seen numerous people rag on this soundtrack, but I don't agree with them. Sure, Shoji Meguro was doing something different from his usual style, but I found the music perfectly ominous and atmospheric considering this game takes place in what is for all intents and purposes Hell.
    Spoiler:

    Megaman Zero Series

Megaman games have always had good music, and the Zero series is no exception to that rule.
    Spoiler:

    Radiant Historia

The final boss theme has already been mentioned, but that was far from the only great track that Shimomura composed for this game.
    Spoiler:

    Pokemon

Yes, Pokemon. It's pretty neat to see how the music has changed and evolved as the years have gone on and the sound hardware has gotten better.

On the way home, Terra's Theme from FF6 got stuck in my head at random... but I couldn't think what it was. Then I realized it was FF6, but couldn't place whose. Tried Cyan first, not him. Then Locke. Nope. Terra. Catchy bit, that.

All the music from FF6 is great really, its not all just Kefka's theme!

And the crazy live version of the Opera with singers while we're at it, why not.

FFVI's OST is easily Uematsu's best(and sadly his peak - was all downhill after that). Terra is one of the most popular songs to remix iirc. I love the live version of the opera. I got a chance to hear it in person when a buddy and I went to Distant Worlds in 2010. Saw Uematsu himself. So glad I had front row seats for that. :3

I still think that IX is Uematsu's best soundtrack. VI is absolutely brilliant, but... come on!

FFX has a really awkward OST with the different composers not even attempting to make it sound together. The best songs are Besaid and Luca, which are both amazing with their serene, relaxing, and well-composed nature. To Zanarkand and Otherworld are both very bad despite being some of the more popular songs. Embarrassingly bad metal and generic piano with zero substance. Whyyy.
