Thread: Filler Match #4: Best British Comedies

Default Re: Filler Match #4: Best British Comedies

I agree with Darkstorm. Both Yes Minister and Jeeves & Wooster beat every other British comedy series listed here. It's a real shame our local TV stopped airing Yes Minister. I loved that show, but its airing times were ridiculous. Who on earth wakes up at 8 AM on Sundays just to watch tv? Apparently nobody.

Fawlty Towers and BlackAdder. I wish I'd seen more of the ones listed, especially since I pretty much live in the UK now... Of course, all my love goes to Eneru the Monty Pythons.

Monty Python would easily win this if it had a spot. Too bad.

I don't know much British comedy, either. I recognize the top 3 is all. I've seen some other stuff that isn't listed. When I was little I watched some show called "Are you being served?" from time to time, and there were a few others I can't place the names of off the top of my head.

Oh, and Eddie Izzard is one of the best standup comedians out there. He should count just for being awesome.

I second what Urouge said, Izzard is really amazing. It's fascinating how he jokes about himself being a transvestite at times, all natural, because that's what it is. I have huge respect for that.

Of all the British Comedies I can say that Inbetweeners shouldn't deserve to be on that roster.

As for what I voted for, had to go with Blackadder. Was raised on long car journies listening to the audio cassesttes of Blackadder II so I've got to go with that really, only one I've seen and heard on numerous occassions that I could easily vote for it.

why haven't more people seen blackadder. oh well, at least Rowan Atkinson is taking both the silver and the gold, that's neat.

also, I second the notion of Are You Being Served. Love that show.

To be fair on my part. When I sent the list it did have a 'other' option.

And League of Gentlemen was supposed to be there instead of Psychoville but I was told Psycho was more well known outside of the UK.

And I did consider putting a 'Best Stand-Up' there but knew that there's even more obscure people there that doesn't get posted.

To everyone who is upset. Have a free Rubber Duck.

I'm assuming people voting Mr Bean only know of Mr Bean.

I don't know many of the listed either but from the ones I've watch The Office is pretty nice.

Well i enjoy Monty Python just fine, Coupling has 3 really funny seasons, Blackadder always has that special place as the first show i overwatched, and y'know Fawlty tower is one of those things you can just entirely quote by heart. But there really are only three british comedy shows that stand way out above the rest. And those are

    Yes minister
    Bottom
    Black books

With yes minister being the very best thing put on air. Ever.

Blackadder & faulty towers. But geez these are all OLD xD We've got more since these ol' timers~ (Though these shows are still the best I'd say)
