You know you're in for a weird meal when the appetizer is ramen.

It is all about portions. If pizza can be everything except drink, ramen can be everything as well.

Why I can’t keep thinking of Byleth as a fish dish?

This is a weird idea, but has anyone thought of creating an Arlong Park Forums Smash Tournament? I think that be pretty cool if done right. Maybe have it as a monthly or even yearly thing.

That sounds like an awesome idea, I'd totally be down (even though I suck at the game)

Back in the days of Smash 3DS I recall we had a group large enough to try doing this. We had something of a ladder system where we could record victories and losses from different members and then at the end of a specific window of time whoever had the most points would "win". I want to say it was Purple Hermit, Rin and I who did some set up for this at the time. And in huge part is because in those times IRC (and eventually discord) were significantly more active with a lot of people interested in playing games together. These are also the times when we had monthly game clubs and movie watching events, etc.
We even had Pokemon tournaments as far back as 2013, though those also died out fairly quickly.

The problem comes from the fact that at a certain point interest is not high enough to justify the work it took to sustain it; the smash tournaments barely even lasted to when the Wii U version came out. Mostly because at a certain point another game or movie or show comes out so people's interest shifts from smash to something else. There's also timelines: we all live in different countries and hold all sorts of jobs, so it can be difficult to get everyone to align on times to play. Considering that Smash has such a bad online experience, I would also imagine that the distance factor can be further problematic for serious matches.

If people wanted to do this I would suggest it's more vital to first have an established amount of people that want to play these types of games together. The fact that in AP we don't really have any smash community that will get together regularly to play means the idea might not float from the get-go. Establish that community of players for some time, and then from there you can actually think about what a tournament would be like.

Oh wow that's so cool! I didn't know AP had a discord, or was it more of a group chat?

Yeah, it would take a lot of time figuring out what time works best and who's willing to do it at night or in the morning. I didn't know Smash sucked online play wise. So much for this idea. >_<

Yeah, basically like a weekly or monthly thing similar to a D&D session in a way.

Anyone here plays Melee online? Apparently they greatly improved the netcode with the release of slippi.

    Oh, I see! O:

A private server basically it seems, it's nice though especially for those who you want to play with, but live far away.

The 8.1 patch just came out, adding a Small Battlefield stage, a larger music selection for Smash-original stages and some online fixes.

Is more like smaller Pokémon stadium on hazards off, battlefield flavored.

they could have just made the Arms stage small battlefield shaped and ensured it would be legal forever more. But noooo, let's add random roofs that exist even with hazards off, that way no one will ever want to play this stage competitively.

I think the most significant addition is letting us listen to any music in BF and FD, which is great from liberating competitive players from only ever hearing smash, animal crossing and pokemon music.

The only character I ever wanted in Smash badly was Sora. I don't think he will ever make it and I'll probably never buy Smash either so it's not a big deal for me.
