Thread: Bart Simpson Thread XI: The Movie - The Manga Adaption - The Animation

Watching the first episode of Boruto...I'm not understanding where this is supposed to fall timeline wise. They aren't even at the academy yet. Boruto doesn't seem to have the mark he got at the end of the film. But is focusing more on the Hyuga eye hacks. Is the anime supposed to be doing it's own thing? I mean...The manga only has 1 chapter to go by and this episode clearly wasn't covering that material.

Also....Did Anko gain like 90lbs? Or is the woman seen towards the end someone else? Lol.

Before. Here is an excerpt from an article about its time placement:

The sequel anime will be set after the end of Kishimoto’s shonen manga, and it will follow its titular character Boruto Uzumaki. Of course, the protagonist has been shown to fans before as Boruto headed up a recent film alongside his colorful genin team. The movie followed the preteen hero as he geared up for the Chunin Exams and finally confronted his father about Naruto’s lack of parenting. But, when Boruto: Naruto Next Generations makes its debut, the anime will feature a much different timeline.

Recently, the director of the Boruto anime spoke with Animedia about the show and its particulars. It was there that Noriyuki Abe explained exactly when the spin-off was set.

“The tale begins a little before the events of the movie,” Abe revealed. “The movie occurs when Boruto, Sarada and Mitsuki are in a three-man cell and undertaking the Chuunin Exams, but the TV series will begin from when they enroll into the Academy. After graduating and forming their three-man cell, gaining experience and challenging the Chuunin Exams is the approximate timeline.”

“It seems that Sarada and Mitsuki are going to have a more developed relationship from now on,” Abe continued. “In the beginning, they are merely classmates with Sarada being an unsociable girl, and Mitsuki having an unreadable atmosphere around him.”
We're probably going to see the movie adapted again at some point, especially due to the manga's alterations like the mark Boruto gets at the end.

And yes. That is Anko. Sometimes I wonder if it might have been better to keep everyone in the Infinite Tsukuyomi just because of how she turned out.

    2nd episode.

Wow. All the kids are super unlikable lol. Eh...Choji's daughter is okayish.

Why hasn't Nerd Wuss heard of chakra before? That's so stupid.

Also the animation is fairly blah.

I like that the second episode had a kid who was literally too cool for school.

    Ahh. Much much better.

With as garbage as the anime's been I forgot about the manga. This chapter was definitely much much much better. And it was basically just fairly simple.

To be honest, I think the anime is doing a much better job than the manga. For starters, it's not spending a precious year retelling the movie but instead went back in time and is showing the academy days. The problem, though, it that the anime has a much bigger feeling of Naruto 2.0 (especially since they changed some characters' personalities to became perfect clone of their parents - Boruto and Inojin).

Once the manga got past the movie portion it already had a much better feeling to me than the anime. The kids are at their most annoying. And it super bugs me that he hasn't mentioned anything to his mom or dad or a teacher about the weird auras.

Also the animation really hasn't been very good...

I'm enjoying Boruto, my problem with both the anime and the manga is I know where it's going thanks to the flashforward

timeskip + Konoha destruction + serious villain crap + power creep + yer da chozen wan Berrito etc..

the same shit that ruined the original manga for me

I guess I'll enjoy it for now and when the timeskip happen I'll drop it

I really don't want to go through the whole Shippuden's ride again and I really really don't want to see the original cast get any older than this

I'm more or less in complete agreement with you Spyda.

I kinda think the first few episodes has been pretty charming. Konoha is a really cool location and I always though the worldbuilding aspect was the part of Naruto I wanted to see more off. I'm glad we get to see what it's like to be in the academy instead of just jumping straight into the action. But I'm really afraid of the series escalating into Shippuddenism way too soon. Simply because all of the older generation is so established and the fact that Sasuke and Naruto have taken over the spotlight to defeat the major villains.

That thing about an elder getting to fight the major battle worked in Naruto part 1, because the world was still new and fresh. And Zabuza really helped to sell the idea that ninja business is not all fun and game. But at this point, we know that Naruto and Sasuke can destroy anything with the flick of a wrist. And the only way to deal with that is to one-up them constantly. And that will just knock the powercreep into third gear. Not to mention that Boruto really lack that rough, cool aesthetic of the early Naruto. The manga is completely drawn in that soulless, machine-like style later volumes of Naruto has.

I think they more or less shot themselves in the foot by starting with a premise that in the future everything will be in some kinda war that suggests it is something more than the current power houses of the kage and naruto and sasuke can stop from occuring. It all but guarantees the type of escalation that you have mentioned. Once you add on this idea that Boruto killed that guy and is now going to become something more, it pretty much sets it in stone in my mind. In a normal manga that would actually be an interesting opening premise showing us that the main character has a grand future ahead of him. In this case because the previous series already basically did that and people got emotionally attached to those characters and want them to have the future they worked for, it comes across less endearing and more annoying. After all for such a future to occure something has to happen to take away the current status quo.
Life flows on. I'd just go with it if I were me.

Shit, I can't believe I didn't mention that. Yeah, starting out by spoiling that the nerdy kid will eventually become Sasuke 2.0 is definetly something that more or less guarantees this. And it makes me wonder how fast it will happen. Like how long is Boruto planned to run for? 100 chapters? 150?

That's not him. The nerdy kid (supposing you are talking about the anime exclusive one) is called Denki, the bad guy in the opening scene is Kawaki.

So either it's a nickname Denki picks up, or Kawaki is one of his relatives. Or that purple chakra or whatever it is attaches itself on different people. Regardless, they have something to do with eachother.
