Thread: Billy Bat

Did not expect that to happen. And then we get a flash forward of almost 20 years... Hmmm. This should be interesting.
I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

He's done it before, with 20th Century Boys and (if memory serves) Pluto.

So Micheal Jackson is the new protagonist?

But even with 20th century boy, the original protagonist remained relevant throughout. No clear declaration that there is a new protagonist.

Not Michael Jackson. Someone else in the comic is singing Thriller btw.

Pluto was more like really doomed in advance as a fault of what it was based on, since he picked a character and based his story around someone who was always going to have to die and once he did, it kind of didn't recover focus or quality, none of the cast really stepped up to the plate (including Astro in this version who could've)

20th Century at least was "intentional"

(I don't read billy bat so i just assume it was like 20cb, but he sure has gotten more predictable than I had thought if he's using that angle again amongst everything else that made me drop billy bat from ch 1)

Just caught up with the latest chapter. I don't know about Beast but I didn't see what happened coming. Is this manga monthly?

It was weekly before the hiatus. Since that's over I can only assume it will keep on like that.

Two new chapters released. Smith has gotten old.

Really like the callbacks to the previous events. And I can't wait for Michael Jackson to appear. :D

I also wonder what happend to Walt D...I mean Chuck Chulkin. He should be dead now, right?

Is Billy Bat doing poorly in Japan? Because there's almost zero fanart of it on Pixiv, or anywhere else for that matter.

    Eyepatch Smith = awesome.

Uh, just looked at the RAW for the next chapter...

Kurusu is back! And he...has not aged at all?

Just catched up with this, great series.

    I've got one question, though:

    Spoiler:
Anyone can tell me in which chapter(s) Oswald and Kevin actually have their talk the story keeps referring to? Either I just don't remember or missed that part completely.

So Chulkin is still alive, huh? Makes me wonder if at the end of the series they'll use the scroll to completely adjust the history to the one of the real world.

I'm also interested if that nerd in the beginning will have any relevance.

I don't remember who, but someone here predicted Hitler's appearance a few pages back. Congrats.

    About the recent chapter:

    Spoiler:
Hitler was visible in that "THAT IS YOUR PLAN?!" part a bunch of chapters ago already though. So it was clear he had some kind of interaction with the bat at some point, the only issue was if we will see what kind of it was.

    In general:

    Spoiler:
I like this manga, but it is getting a bit convulted right now. What's up with that training arc or however one should call it?

Wow, seriously. I reaaaaallllly liked that chapter. Urasawa portrayed Hitler like an actual human being. Yes, he is still showing his horrible ideologies and lack of human empathy, but he is still a human being in there - which was especially well shown with the part of history "Chulkin" should change, if he gets his hands on the scroll.
I also would want one of these Billy Bat figures. :P

Also I already took a look on the next chapter and also the last one until August 22th.
    Spoiler:
However the cliffhanger this time is rather disappointing imho. Why? Well, I would've prefered not to see the moon landing scene for the ~5th time...

The only thing the manga is a bit too convoluted in my eyes is the part about the white & the black bat, because at this point in time I have no idea whatsoever when we have seen the good one and when we have seen the bad one thus far...

And now that Kurusu, Smith, "Culkin" and Finney reappeared, I guess that leaves the Momochi family, Zofuu and the real Culkin to get information about what happend to them.

Now we'll have to wait until the end of August again, I guess. After the last chapter I wonder if we even get to see Michael Jackson in person.

A little bit off topic, but I just read the following thing on tumblr:
    Spoiler:
Have a history teacher explain this if they can.
Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.
Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost a child while living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.
    Now it gets really weird.
    Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy.
    Kennedy’s Secretary was named Lincoln.
    Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.
Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.
John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.
Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.
Now hang on to your seat.
Lincoln was shot at the theater named “Ford.”
Kennedy was shot in a car called “Lincoln” made by “Ford.”
Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.
    And here’s the “kicker”:
A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.
    AND……………….:
Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse…
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theater…

Makes me really want to see Lincoln in the story, though I'm not too sure, if the time period will shift that often from now on.

Another idea that I've got recently for an ending of Billy Bat: What if at the end of the story the bat pops up before Urasawa himself and asks him to write this all down, lol.
