Thread: Pixar movies

  1. #2301

Why do I have the feeling the whole movie is another metaphor for growing up?

Pixar only does coming of age stories. childhood to adulthood, meh parent to proper parent, cranky old man to nice old man, toddler dreck of humanity to earth re-terraformer, imposter cheff to restaurant owner.

Pixar trailers are notoriously meh, or at least thats a common view on this forum, but even with those standards...woof, this did nothing for me. I wasn't as keen on Wish Dragon as Gizmo, but otherwise yeah, I'm more curious what Sony has cooking (and Cartoon Saloon and Laika, of course) - if nothing else, the style and movement of the animation will be refreshingly poppin'.

If Pixar's animation was anything less than gorgeous you would know something had gone seriously wrong at the studio.

that actually had the opposite effect for me. Could be misremembering, but has Pixar ever relied on pop culture music in their trailer before?

I remember Inside Out used Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith and Bug's Life had Baba O'riley by The Who.

Well there goes that. Still, the feeling I got was a run of the mill cartoon movie that is banking off the soundtrack being a crutch to cause emotion instead of an enhancement.

It's also featuring an Asian family with the mom being played by Sandra Oh, so that's also points from me. And in Toronto, which automatically gains them all of Canada.

They used "the Boys are Back in Town" as far back as Toy story. And used it again in Toy Story 2. They changed it to "toys" but... Life Is A Highway for Cars. Cars 2 used a Weezer song. Inside Out used Aerosmith for one trailer and Boston for another. And over at Disney they used a whole bunch of straight up Elvis songs in Lilo and Stitch.

And Larger than Life is 22 years old. It's hardly a pop song at this point, it's practically an oldie.

Also double checked, the other trailers also have their own osts as part of the trailer playing in part of the trailer along with the songs playing in other parts of the trailer. This one is just Backstreet Boys.

New thread title: Pixar movies shamelessly use classic rock music.

Which was actually a cover of a song by The Cars. Hehe.

The first two episodes of Monsters at Work are up. About as giggly and smile-inducing as you would expect out of a Monsters Inc. series. As the trailer indicated, it's more about Tyler and the MIFT group, but Mike and Sully are in there enough to satisfy. And Billy Crystal is still the best part.

I wonder why they wouldn't use the same concept twice.

Like, you can actually make another movie about bugs/insects, with a whole different cast, scenarios and story, no big deal..

Because they essentially tried that very thing with Planes......anyone remember that?

Considering we just lost Ed Asner, perhaps we should cherish this upcoming feature a little more:
